The pre release hype was.much the same in ED by the way. Just look at the DDF and Dev diaries etc. The game in there is far far different than what we had now and who in sept 2014 would have believed that by march 2019 there would only have been 1 paid expansion.?

Indeed - but in Star Citizens case there have been literally hundreds of paid expansions (ships etc) and still zero released games. If the current focus is on SQ42 - then none of those paid expansions are going to be actual game content in a released game for quite possibly a very, very long time.

46 million in private investment for "marketing" and most definitely not for development.

Also there is Rexzilla, sponsored by Red Bull, doing daily live streams (perhaps from that marketing money) who appeared some months ago.

He basically LARPs with his Org, setting up scenarios with other members (because the game doesn't have any built in reliable gameplay loops for missions that don't have a habit of failing). He's shilling hard, he's basically a CI!G mouthpiece, just listen to him. He's frequently telling people to buy ships and how he would spend all his money on ships. People are buying him twitch subs (he announces it... in other words, not organic subs, just people paying for them in batches).

He covers the fact that its taken 5-10 minutes of nothing flying to targets by getting someone else to fly the ship while he parades up and down the cargo hold with his Org stood at attention while he shouts a lot and talks about the mission.

While the mission is going he shouts a lot and constantly bangs on about how awesome everything is.

When the game glitches or crashes he brushes it off.

Give him a watch, seriously, its... fascinating.

It sounds like your common distraction techniques, shout a lot so the mark's focus is on you rather than them paying attention to what is really going on.

I wonder how long he'll be able to keep this RPing up for? It's takes quite a bit of effort to do that on a daily basis and it seems a surefire way to burn out sooner rather than later.

He might be able to keep that going for some time. I think the limiting factor will be more how long his body can withstand the assault of the Red Bull he is drinking. One a stream last week he was looking decidedly twitchy.

IMHO, it was planned that way right from the beginning. And ironically EA and the other "usual AAA suspects" get ripped a new one every time for their lootbox, monetization schemes albeit at least they release stuff, contrary to Clown Imperium Games and Don Croberetty.

Aye its a great success story in its own rights Truth be told there aint too much new stuff being talked about anymore because SC is pretty much floating dead in the waters but thanks to all the special visitors we usually have enough bursts of activity to ensure top spot in the thread section
