A call to arms for all white knights

As a counterpoint to almost every other thread I thought I would try to gather white knights together in one place. I'm bored of reading the forum just bashing the game. Seriously, just quietly go off and do something else if you really don't like it that much.

I seem to be the only one who's really enjoying the game at the moment. Of course I'd like new updates on a more regular basis but I've basically played fairly constantly for some years now.

A game that keeps my attention and enjoyment for that long is rare. I like Elite because it's varied, because it lets me explore the galaxy, it lets me fly spaceships, it has a political framework to get involved with, it has Colonia to give a different feel to the same game, it has the best space combat anywhere and despite now being four years old the graphics remain superb. The game has developed enormously since it was first released

In short, I like Elite and will continue playing Elite. In 18 months or whenever I'll still be here looking forward to the new development of the game.

Rant over, positive replies welcome, negative ones please leave your stuff at the door

Me too. I expect to be still paying in 2020 unless a game I like even better comes along. I don't accept the "white knight" label though.

Yes I too love the game as I am a beta player will still be playing 2020 and beyond, although I am not to happy having to wait so long for the big content wait I will and not complain.

This pretty much. I guess I don't care enough about the game to let 18 months of waiting for a next major update phase me, so I don't consider myself a white knight. I still enjoy the game; I'm not burnt out on it yet. Besides that the forums are as active as they ever were and I haven't noticed a mass exodus from the game yet.

But I guess I just have my rose-tinted glasses on or don't live in reality ;) From my perspective all is fine with the game (apart from bugs ofcourse), although the forums do seem to be going through a phase now.

I wouldn't worry about the 'white knight' label too much in this forum. You can be critical of the game, the developers, well anything FD related in 9 out of 10 posts. But if you disagree with a poster in the tenth post you are immediately labelled for life as a white knight or worse, a FanBoi. You will find those that throw those labels around normally don't have a valid response to what you have said, it is easier from them to dismiss you by calling you a white knight than admit they could be wrong.

Well I am grey alright!
I love this game immensely, CQC in vr is my fave, not fashionable amongst players but very good.
If the powers that be decide to tinker with the game to spruce it up rather than release more things that cause further problems isn’t that a good thing? Oh and a new SRV!
Nah I am happy with it and I have not tried new mining in my rift yet.

Quite telling that the white knights who usually overrun negative threads and comments seem to be struggling to put up a fight or put a positive spin on the latest news.

Give me a white knight sticker to buy :) I got a bit bored with what I was doing and then started doing something else and I'm not bored anymore.

If they take until next year for major updates, I'm sure I'll find something to do in this big box

I am playing Elite since I was 9 years old in the eighties (Original Elite on Schneider CPC6128) and later Elite2 on Amiga.
I played Elite : First Encounters for THOUSAND of hours.
We had to wait DECADES for Elite : Dangerous to appear so what is a measily 18 months for the next major update?

Ofcourse I was disappointed when I heard the news but hey let’s just hope the small updates and bugfixes are worth it.
(Remember how many people where asking Fdev not to add too many new things but sort the bugs first? They can be happy now?)
Elite was always and will be always in my heart,I even still have the original starmap pinned on my wall in my game room o7

A grey knight?

That would be me too, and I have the hair to prove it ;).

About OP. Sure there are some who live to bash the game, and there are some who will jump to the defence of any critisicm of bugs or bare bones features but I think the vast majority of us are just fans of either Elite in particular or of space games.
I adore Elite and parts of the game are genre leading imo (for a game) (the stellar forge, general flight model, some parts for the visuals, the audio and for me, the big one VR).

OTOH parts of the game ARE a bit broken and others are so far from the game FD sold us back when I backed it is a bit depressing.
As a user base we are all over the place as well. Parts of what I want in the game would break the game for some and vice versa some features many request with a fever I would hate and so of course I respond to such posts.

Therefore there will be "enthusiastic" discussion imo for the life of the game that will only stop when either the servers go dark or when no one cares. It is not necessarily a bad thing imo

Me too! Could be a whole in game faction! Sounds fun!

Misery loves company OP, the serial whingers genuinely can't stand the idea that other people are having fun because nobody ever invites them to parties. Just learn to surf on the river of tears that occurs whenever FDEV do something say something or don't do or say something.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game, and overall it's in a decent place. That doesn't change the fact that some really poor decisions have been made. Add to that the fact that satisfied people don't tend to come on forums to rant about how satisfied they are, and really, things (on the forum) aren't that bad. Even the old hands that are whining about bgs abnormalities, and various broken game mechanics (HGEs) would happily tell you what's good about the game, and encourage others to look past the issues, but there's no need to talk about that. The stuff that works, works. I can't really make a thread titled 'so those thargoids, eh? Wow they're working as intended.',and even that choice of content to praise (cos I'm enjoying them right now), is also facing bugs at the moment (galmap states to show us where they are, aren't working). But I'm happy to write 90% of the problems off to; 'Damn, dude, this game is an enormous monster now, no wonder it has some issues'.

I want to criticize the white knights for not playing enough of the game or at enough depth to realize the issues, and the doomers for ridiculously overstating their case. The truth as always, is somewhere in the middle.
