Next Update = 2020

I have the feeling that some people might be surprised by it, it's entirely possible it will be better received than some of the changes in Beyond. Others will complain regardless of the outcome and some will be mostly indifferent about it.

Frontier certainly can't be blamed for over-hyping this time.

You're not wrong with this.

Multiquote ist quite difficult on mobile.

I would post less if some people wouldn't write so much nonsense. That doesn't apply to all discussions I had over the last days, but some posts are just crazy. The 'there won't be an update till 2020, not even a regular update' brigade for example tries to spread misinformation in order to harm the game. I wouldn't care about their made up claims, but it seems silly to allow that kind of lies when newcomers might read it.

A difference of opinion isn't some kind of a sinister lie to harm the game, but anyway, carry on I guess.

Sorry but if someone claims that Frontier said there will be no updates in 2019 that's ignorance. If they continue to say it once I showed them a direct quote from the announcement it becomes a lie. I can live with different opinions, but I'll point it out when someone is factually wrong.

With the actual interim content? Doubtful.

With the actual 2020 expansion?
"We believe this will be a defining moment in the history of the game and it will be our biggest update yet."
Those are some words alright.

Its too early for you to get annoyed about that.

adding one single ship, a new lagrange cloud, or one little insignificant piece of guardian tech, aka content that gets done in about a week for most players, is not worthy of being called content, that's more akin to a selfie camera patch from WoW as "content". Frontier is becoming laughable on the amount of "content" churned out to the point players are desperately trying to do anything, be it distant worlds 2 (just revisiting more of the same, i mean their end point of beagle point didnt even change) or gankers chasing distant worlds 2 this time... but oh paint jobs are regularly released to try and consume our cash. It's not that we want to hate Frontier, it's that the experience from first playing to becoming a seasoned player and looking for the advanced content is basically non-existent, Thargoids are only interesting for so long before it's just another npc ship. And really there's no need to cut your teeth on a Medusa or Hydra as outside of some cash numbers there's no variation in reward for killing one.

The lack of ACTUAL content is a joke and the promised "patches" are a joke. This isn't content, it's Maintenance Mode.

Its a sandbox you need to blaze your own trail.

There are over 100 developers on the Elite Dangerous devteam.

100 developers? Citation please?

The quote I thought people keep referring to was a development team of 100 people, which is entirely different.
You're going to have non-coding artists, project managers, BAs, QA, an "engagement" team, community management, DBAs, build and release team, and all the mangers/scrum masters etc etc.
If it's even 50 actual code-monkeys i'd be impressed, depending on how much other staff is sucked away to other areas.

Anyway I did ask the question about their dev processes in the new "xtra" stream, so it'll be interesting if they answer that, and we may get how many actual developers they have.

I do find it interesting that Frontier thinks we care about the new player experience.

I don't think they care whether we care or not. Not everything is done for us.

I'll also point out that the only way the game is going to survive long term is by getting new players, and if they can have a better time getting into the game then that's a good thing, so yeah, maybe you should care about the new player experience. At least if you want the game to still be around a few years from now.

So tell the new players, and stop fluffing the existing ones.

Why are you so riled about this? People want to know what they're working on - that's pretty much what this entire thread is about. The fact that part of what they're working on doesn't affect you is, frankly, neither here nor there. Not everything is about you.

Even if I am german I try it in my best John Bercow style: "I hope that the honourable gentleman has some proof for his statement :)"

Because: When Alpha was released nobody was Talking About Things that are not included in the release of Elite. During the Beta-Phases also. And what did we get? A release with 1000s of open Bugs, a 1 year delayed Horizon, a totally waste of dev-time Beyond and what do we have now? 2000s of open Bugs, and STILL stuff missing from the "should be included in release"-Department. YOu may want to consult the old design Forums and - if available - all the kickstarter-promises that still are not implemented.

I don't really understand your post as it doesn't read well. The original release date as hoped for as per Kickstarter page was March 2014. To be fair I might be misremembering £12m but,

"The original budget, because we put a lot of our money towards it, was £8m," David Braben - the man in charge - told me at Gamescom. And, he added, "it's grown by quite a lot".

Either way they made a game of their own and at some point had to recoup that investment. What was going into the original release was always going to be limited compared to what would be added later. So my original point stands, complaining that features should have been there on release is a non-starter. Whether they should be there now, is a different discussion.

Censor got me. I was trying to confirm your point. I'm not being asked to sell games for Frontier.

Which is why I don't give a flip about the new player experience. If the game is good, people will play. If not, time to start fluffing...

If the new player experience isn't good they might well pick it up and then stop playing. I'd wager that their feedback tells them this is an issue hence them improving it.
