Am I the only one who thought we would get new payed content in Q1 of 2019?

Can I ask how many other 4 year old games any of you are still playing?

Cos i sure as heck ain't playing anything that old.
Civ IV
Civ V
X3
X rebirth
CS : S
batman arkham city
sins of a solar empire
skyrim

Just off the top of my head.
Many old games are still great.

To name a few.

I semi-regularly replay Halo 1-4, Uncharted 1-4, the first two Batmans, all the Bioshocks...in fact I'm far more likely to play an old game than a new one. There just aren't that many new games coming out that interest me.

Honestly, I don’t care.

If they take their time and release better content with fewer bugs then everyone wins in the end. Sure, it’s tough on the “new toy of the month” club, but they’ll just have to get over themselves.

Let's be honest, it's probably going to take FDev the best part of two years to fix all the bugs. That's if they even try to lol,,

Personally, the 4+ year old games that I play regularly are Elite Dangerous (4yo), Warframe (6yo), and Skyrim (7yo).

DOTA 2 and CS:GO are both extremely popular games - a constant in Steam's top-three - and are more than 5 years old.

Other "old" games that are in Steam's top 25 most played at this moment: Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, Civilization V, Euro Truck Sim 2, Arma 3, Counter Strike, Terraria, and War Thunder.

On console, Grand Theft Auto 5 is over four years old and a fair bet at being played a lot even today.

I still play old games, but there's not really anything like ELITE that keeps me playing. It's not really about the gameplay. It's about the vastness and the loneliness. Which is a weird thing to be into. But there's nothing else like it.

I'm philosophical about the delay because without a sudden injection of hundreds of millions of pounds there's not much they can do to speed up.

I also think that the game now has enough content that there's always something else to try if whatever you're currently doing gets to be a drag.

Personally, if I was king, I'd prioritise all sorts of different things gameplay-wise, and I worry that whatever the next big update it is, it'll be the one I'm least interesting in seeing.

...but the "I've played this game for 6000000 hours and it's totally rubbish" brigade just look silly!

Let’s see:
Skyrim
X3
DCS World
IL2 Series
Rise of Flight
Falcon 4
Dayz
Silent Hunter 3,4 and 5
The Hunter: Classic
Many of the Total War series
Left for Dead
Evochron series
Graviteam Tactics
Combat Mission
Swat 4
Distant Worlds
Mount & Blade
S.T.A.L.K.E.R

I could keep going. Playing any game too much is unhealthy. There are too many great games and too little time.

It's scary how close that list is to mine :D. Replace the silent hunter series with Sonalyst's sub sims, and a couple indies, and I've played all these games in the past 2 years.

Oh, I played Sonalyst’s as well. Just not anymore. Waiting for Uboat to release this month.

Napoleon Total War, Medieval Total War 2, Civ 4, Civ 4 Colonization, Sid Miers Pirates, Sid Miers Railroads, City Skylines and Minecraft to name a few.

Am I?

Because they said Beyond will mostly be a YEAR of QoL improvements, some sort of preparation for the next big thing which should arrive after the 4th and final update.

The fact I don't visit the forums on a regular basis might have something to do with my delusions about new content release schedule...
But after I read the ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT™ I was shocked by the number 2020 and by the lack of any details about that game changing stuff that will come.

Anyway, turns out Beyond was not over after one year, it will in fact last 2.5 years total. If not even longer.
I really didn't see that coming.
Silly me.

You are totally reasonable in expecting a 2019 release. Okay maybe late 2019, but still, I don't think anyone was expecting to hear late 2020. The constant push back is making Elite seem a lot more like SC and I find that concerning. Most of what they are putting out these days are micro-transactions, which is okay and I don't mind paying for cool paint jobs and the like but you'd think with all the money being poured into the game we'd be on schedule. From what I understand, is they seem to be putting a lot of resources into developing another game (or games?) at the moment.

yes, as they did with planet coaster and jurassic by drawing manpower to Ed and removing features that were announced (carriers to name a few) or barely developing what they had promised (multicrew to name a few).

FD aim to get max money from elite with minimal effort: hence they only work on paint job...

ED is extremely big and complicated. They (FD) probably underestimated the time needed to get the milestone updates better. Which is no big deal, as good quality updates usually take longer and most ED cmdrs already got many times their money's worth in value. The paintjobs financials were reported as $6 million total which probably helped with renting out AWS as intended.

Other long lasting genre games are EvE, Star Trek: online & FSX where FSX steam edition still ranks up at the top 100 steamcharts as new players discover it. I've no doubt ED as the premiere interstellar spacesim will reach FSX's longevity of 14+ years.
