Anthem

I made a mistake, I judged it on the beta which wasnt really fair in hindsight...players get lambasted fer doing the same thing here so Im guilty as charged. I take back my earlier doom and gloom comment if I could.

I just logged in fer an hour cos it occured to me I havent really done much freeplay...got a bit carried away with the initial missions and basically just getting used to the controls and flying. The flying part I love...takes some skill to stay airborne fer long periods of time, from steep diving to flying through waterfalls or skimming the surface of a river to cool down. Looks like a novelty item but its actually like a minigame in itself and can be very useful once ye learn how to use it in combat.

Ive unlocked a second javelin but find myself still loving the ranger which was my first choice. I unlocked the big colossus because Ive always liked point blank melee style fighting, and again assumed the tank would be the best...again I assumed wrongly and I should have known better. In me3 fer example, I enjoyed using the N7 vanguard fer up close and personal stuff which was, in reality, a glass cannon. Stats wise the N7 was one the weakest characters which relied heavily on powerful biotics and speed...health wise it was paper thin. Lotta guys used the geth juggernaut to farm platinums...I couldnt even survive a gold as a geth but farmed them with weaker characters.

Its a little detail but one that matters...to me anyway. Bigger is not always best, a common enough mantra in hundreds of games, elite notwithstanding. It matters cos missions will see variety instead of using whatever meta charcter exists...nothing as bad as playing with 4 juggernauts after all...doesnt really catch the moment.

Ive completed my first public event...alone. Felt good cos it was one helluva fight that really tested my limits...good practice fer what comes later methinks. The loot Im getting is still common and uncommon at best, but Im getting there.

I play by one golden rule...if I start a new game and Im still playing after 3 days then chances are I like it and its already worth the money.

Strong alone, stronger together freelancer ^

Yeah, I've played with all classes and Colossus is by far my least favourite. It suffers from the same predicament Storm does - very strong team support-focused Javelin, that therefore kind of sucks when left on its own. Interceptor, on the other hand, doesn't give a damn about others. Its damage output and self-sustenance is just amazing. It's highly single-target focused but can dispose of single targets so quickly that it doesn't matter.
And the Ranger - oh I LOVE the Ranger. First and foremost - it's Iron Man. And who doesn't want to be an Iron Man. :D And second, Ranger is just good at everything. Single target DPS, AOE, priming, detonating, all kinds of status effects. If you prefer playing alone, Ranger and Interceptor are the way to go. Storm and Colossus are definitely awesome team players, but they are much harder to master if you want to really be useful.

As for the loot, yeah, the start is kind of slow but around lvl 15 when you start getting a lot of blue (rare) and some purple (epic) gear, things really pick up speed and you can start really focusing on various builds and experiment with them.

And I agree with what you said about flying - I love it. It feels great and it's not just means of transportation from one place or another but a real standalone gameplay element that requires some mastery. When I started, I basically spent two or three days in Free play just flying around, doing random events and exploring. I love the world, btw. There is a lot to be discovered in Free play and some parts of the map are really breathtaking.

So yeah. Missions are usually fun (I kind of love some of the NPCs that give you the missions and the radio chatter is hilarious) but I'm probably still spending more time in Free play just doing stuff and having fun.
I'm some 40 hours in, I'm not even close of being half way through the story, but I can already see this one will stick with me for a long time.

This is just a heads up.. that Anthem seems to be bad medicine for PS users atm... bricking some consoles, etc.

I was so close to picking this up on a pre-order just to get into the game a few days early... it seemed so full of promise that even achieving a partial amount of that I figured would have made for a great time... but I cannot believe how far from enjoyable this game appears to be.. for me, anyway...

Games running pretty well on oneX...not flawlessly had two crashes in a week and both time simply restarted from console. I had three times the problem on rdr2 and still loved it so fairly sure I can survive two crashes on one week...why, even elite used to spit me out twice an hour last time I played.

I know my daughter had a few issues on her PS4 but nowhere near as serious as that video suggests and she’s still playing as am I. Other guys I play with say there’s a few issues certainly, but none of them have any intention of quitting or asking fer refunds.

No idea what’s happening on pc...would be interesting to see if xb and pc players were experiencing the issues cos if they ain’t, then it’s a console specific issue.

Reading this makes me happy I’m an xboxer using the most powerful console on the planet...cos so far the worst performing game on it has been elite...it’s literally identical to a standard xb1S and doesn’t appear to utilise the extra power...whereas several other games do and I have compared as I own both consoles.

That’s what has me thinking this is console specific...or maybe I’m just lucky...either way I’m still enjoying the game.

Online reviews are something I mostly ignore...I’ve enjoyed games that were carpet bombed in reviews and hated game which were highly rated. My game isn’t affected by what other players think...I prefer to make up my own mind but I’ll certainly keep an ear to the ground on this issue more outta curiosity than concern ^

Is it something real or is it just the usual four vocal people whose PS4 were so dirty that a thermal cut-off shut their console down and damaged the HDD so it won't start?
I mean, we know Anthem is pushing CPUs to the limit.

Ill keep playing fer now...if my console breaks, Ill just a buy a new one and put it down to experience. Does one not drive on the roads in a new car because the risk is there they might crash? Box is insured anyway so either I get a refund from bioware or from the guys I pay insurance to every month...no need fer tantrums or second guessing until I experience the issue...and that hasnt happened yet so...

Im not defending bioware or EA...simply saying that this problem hasnt affected me and Im ok with the risk. Besides, Im on xb1X, not a vanilla ps4 so its their problem as far as I can see cos Ive yet to hear anything about this affecting xb players. Ive seen it in headlines but not heard anything on the forums or from any of my m8s who play. Not everything ye see in a headline is true after all but if it is, then Ill deal with it when/if it happens and not before ^

How would it be possible for a game to override whatever safety gates and shutoffs the console has built in to allow it to run to such extremes it destroys the console?

Sounds like it was consoles that were going to die regardless of what game crashed them.

I would blame Playstation not Anthem. I went through three Xbox 360's including a elite model due to red rings. I obviously blamed Microsoft and not whatever game I was playing at the time.

Well, yeah. But it's very trendy to blame Anthem and EA. Somewhat in general. :D

This topic has become a gigantic circular discussion. Especially on reddit. People repeating the same stuff over and over again. Its tiresome.

Glad yer enjoying the game btw...yer feedback is most appreciated have a nice day lancer.

Most serious bug Ive so far encountered is getting stuck between missions...easily solved by restarting the game from the dashboard, not the console, just the game itself. Happened twice in 5 hours last night...obviously Im gonna rage quit as its totally unplayable now...right?

Yer right actually in that this particular topic has become rather silly...of all the guys I spoke to last night, only the odd one here and there are even aware theres an issue at all. That speaks volumes about how seriously bugged the game allegedly is...some vexing little issues yes but unplayable? Not even close...

Sorry to disappoint I know there are some who would love to see the game fail because they cant get past their hatred fer the guys who made it. Wouldnt matter to them how good or bad or even what the game is, they see the names bioware and EA and the red mist drops and they search fer anything to use against them out of simple spite fer the company...could be the best game ever made but they will find something to moan about.

Course...they could just buy a new xbox instead of sticking with an inferior ps4 thats always breaking down...Ill get my coat ^

Equip a lvl 1 weapon and take it to grand master - I dare you, lol.

Bioware: We can make the enemies scale individually according to player level so friends don't have to be the same level to enjoy the game together, unlike other games that invalidate in-game friends if one of them is playing one hour a day more than the other and prevent them to ever meet in the game again.

EA haters: LOL look at that, the lvl 1 item is as strong as lvl 30 item. What a trash game.

Seriously. Get a life.

Well, it kinda moots the point of the loot chase, does it not?

I think I just hate the idea of levels, and level scaling, especially on equipment.

I hate loot chases even more.
