Anthem

Soloing the story is advisable, lest you miss out on parts by match-making and loading screens cutting off story bits and cutscenes. Or outright dropping you into final mission spoiling it all in one go. Or just players rushing through and getting it done with without much moment to take it in.

The last sentence is PRECISELY why I find it hard to play these games. I love to savour a well written story and take in as much detail as possible. Found it annoying in The Division when I'd party up and then have to endure someone racing like mad through levels and ruining the pace and timing of the story. Yes you can play it singley but it's designed for co-op and I think you lose something there when playing on own.

Since you have to pay full price for the Anthem it's fair to judge it on it's release day. You payed for a product, not a promise.

If that's the case, how do you rate your €160 (plus microtransactions) Destiny? That is its price right now. Is it three times better than Anthem.

The moment you start quantifying your hobby (that's what games are - a free time activity for entertainment) you loose that hobby.

I am a bit tired of the wave of "it will be finished/better down the road" games over the past few years. Some company with a small dev team, i can understand. Multiple million/billon dollar companies and publishers no sympathy.

Which is the reason i didn't buy BFV or Destiny 2. Oh, include Anthem. Show me a finished game and I will show you my well earned coin. I'm done with expecting to wait for months down the line, or years, for a game to resemble what was promised.

That's kind of rich, saying that on Elite forum. Have you asked for a refund, yet? :D

FFXIV had exactly the same problem. For some unknown reason, the dev team decided to put the story cutscenes INSIDE the dungeon, which brought the play through time to at least 30 minutes or more, instead of the 15 minute speedrun that daily random dungeon goers are accustomed to.

To make matters worse, it was an 8-man, not a standard 4-man, so one new player who heaven forbid wanted to watch his story unfold "held the others hostage". Nowadays that dungeon is such a ghost town that it has its own roulette queue so people know what they are in for. And SE never put cutscenes into dungeons ever again, just before and after.

But they found their groove and as a rare thing in an MMO, I can actually enjoy every minute of the story, even when running around as a party, because they put it in places where it doesn't inconvenience the others.

Also, I'm reading through the jesus patch notes, and.. I'm sorry but is this a joke?

  • Weapons and gear now have numbers present for modifiers

You're telling me that in a game that is a looter shooter, as in hovering up everything that is shiny.. you didn't have a way to know HOW MUCH better the drop is then your current gear? What did they have, Acorns from 1-5 or some ubiquitous bars?

This is utter madness, and some other entries on this are quite comical, too.

No, before it was shown as percentage, instead of raw number. You could say which one's better just as well.

LOADING.....I’m struggling to work out how a....,LOADING.....AAA developer with a turnover bigger than some small countries can,LOADING.......release what is In essence a rather simple game in such an,LOADING......unfinished state.

I think its a case of extreme AAA "Early Access" strategy where folks will test the game for the developer AND give them money at the same time. They can push the game out faster, get some quick money from hyped gamers and then put some patches out. Someone calculated that its more profitable than wait and fix the game before the release.
This practice has become a standard for AAA devs lately, but luckily in extreme cases like F76 is can backfire :D

I want to like it but as said in the last thread. After ME -A Im not sure a about bioware and even less about EA.

Being a Mass Effect fan myself, I am not sure why ME A got so much hate, I actually enjoyed it TBH. I know it had a few "issues" but still it wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. The last mission was excellent.

Anthem though looks rubbish, won't bother with it after watching some reviews.

I would suggest watching some let's players and general youtubers, instead, rather than reading reviews. Apparently EA forgot to pay the reviewers, this time. :D
(Seriously, though, if you're not sure, wait. As it is now, the game is an immense fun, but the content lasts for about 40-50 hours, unless you're one of those Diablo types who just enjoy grinding and loot-hoarding.)

And yes, I liked Andromeda. The only disappointment I experienced with that game was that is was cut short and there were no story DLCs.

I'd rate Destiny about as poorly as Anthem :)

It was OK, but to step in ME boots it would have needed to be better. Also: some maps kinda sucked and the MP was atrocious at launch.

Yes, i recognized the irony as i was typing. :) Though, I was lucky enough to purchase the game a lot later (ps4 peon here) than those of the ED community that were basically here from day one. So I didn't experience the growing pains, not as much anyway, than you day-ones have.

ME Andromeda wasn't an awful game but it wasn't great either by any stretch. The first 10 hours which should have been amazing were really terrible and it took some grit to get through them. I'd hazard most people gave up before then and took far too much notice of overblown memes. It improved a lot after that but lazy writing and overused tropes didn't do it any favours ultimately and it became a forgettable experience.

There is a theme that seems to pervade the video game industry especially AAA titles. That writing and voice acting are secondary concerns over graphics and following the trends. For an industry that's more than rivals TV and Film little thought or effort goes into writing and voice talent.

Anyway I'm digressing massively. Just fancied a bit of a moan

Anthem 'Legion of Dawn Edition' is still sitting in my Origin Access game library...still uninstalled. After watching quite a few YouTube vids of gameplay...it's likely to stay there.

At least I didn't pay for it.

Well, if you have it, why not try it and see for yourself?
There are two kinds of youtubers - the ones that hate EA and will do anything to smear the company, legitimate or otherwise, and those sponsored by EA to hype the customers up.
Neither of them are in any way helpful or relevant when comes to your OWN decision.
