Player numbers dropped?

Damn this cursed right to express one's views.

That's fine, just don't call me a fanboy / white knight for being on the forum of the game I enjoy rather than hate.

PS
Also I am kind of bored reading that people think the game is doomed or dying since 5 years, or that they aren't playing it since 5 years (while people are allowed to tell me, I am allowed to tell them how ridiculous it sounds) or that FDEV is crap and incompetent and will never change. Well if that's the case, what is the point in being here?! Go to people you don't find crap!

I don't like dogs. Guess what? I DON'T HAVE ONE! ;)

I don't think Elite is the best game ever, but it's the game I enjoy the most. The Witcher 3 is actually a better game. Deus Ex as well. Jagged Alliance 2 was awesome. Mount & Blade is one of my all time favourites. Still, I love flying space ships and there is simply no game that manages it better than Elite in my opinion.

Kerbal does flying spaceships better. As do the raft of other games that simulate Newtonian physics.

Debatable. If you took away the Elite name i bet alot less people would even care. About fanbois. Even the complainers are fanbois in their way. Unwelcome ones no doubt but only the hope of change makes people complain and as FD have repeatedly stated, they are listening. They read everything...

Edit: just be careful with the word sim. :D Before somebody starts ranting about how it isnt!

ED's deffo the BDSSE, just look at the competition :

Buggy mogul one with bad flight model
Cartoon one with really bad flight model
Comedy one with really really bad flight model

As you can se there's a pattern, ED's the best and only space sim ;) going.

Yeah, dropping really fast and people seems to forget about the sales offer, where we can get the ED+Horizons for less than $15.

The current player numbers should be at least bigger than last year, since the major patch already get released + they have made that sales offer to bring more people to the game.
Clearly we can see that fdev realized that new (NEW!) people just give-up from the game, for that reason they want to focus this year for new-players experience, they are not wrong really, people should fell more welcome to the game.

Last year in october we have the lowest player avarage since 2016 - 2,883 players - this year we have the potential to have even less.

Cobblers Kerbals a great game but its all about comedy rickety disastrous rockets and rescuing little green dudes. ED much more fun for flying spaceships around.

I agree, it's the best space game available. I call it space-fantasy rather than space-sim, but that's fine; I enjoy playing it.

The fact that someone has just recommended Kerbals as an alternative really sums up the weirdness I was referring to earlier. That suggestion would be hilarious if it wasn't sad.

I didn't suggest Kerbal as an alternative to Elite. I said as far as flying a spaceship is concerned, the fact Kerbal has Newtonian physics (and n-body physics with Principia) makes it, as a spaceflight simulator, superior to Elite: Dangerous as far as that specific portion of the game goes.

yea as the last update were buggy half baked stuff and now they say the wanna go even lower... i can barley motivate me and i can´t see why my motivation should go up.... enough of the next big hyper amazing thing...delayed

OK, I took "Kerlabs does flying spaceships better" to mean "Kerbals is a better game to go flying spaceships in". Elite would arguably be better if it had more realistic physics, although I know some will say that gameplay trumps physics. But I suspect you intended the ambiguity really.

Well, I'm off to play ED now.

ED being an MMO is incompatible with a Newtonian FM as you need time controls for that. Its just not a realistic thing to want.

That's if you ignore dog-fighting being super fun in ED and dreadful in Newtonian games.

Enjoy, I'm off to do some more DMC5. <3

That's not what the 'Frontier defenders' are saying though. I for example believe that Frontier will continue to release updates with the same quality like those of the past years. For me that's a good thing, because I enjoy playing Elite Dangerous.

As ever, Frontier don't defend their own game (they might issue clarifications), they make statements and leave the community to like it or lump it.

I´m out for the moment being. I´ll be back when I feel the itch for spaceship flying, but my ED morale is pretty low nowadays

There are also people who "complain" because they like ED so much.
ED was my goto game, my number one game and although I'm burned out at the moment I still think it's the best spacegame out there.
It's just that I'm getting tired of Fdev's half baked ideas they put in the game, nothing is realy full fletched and this leads to frustration and fatigue.
I want ED to become better then ever but knowing Fdev most things don't get worked out properly before they introduce something new.
Now they're announcing the biggest thing ever, by now my expectations have sunk into an abys of unfinished ideas but they keep on hammering how exciting this new big thing is going to be,.....again.

Now they want me to wait eighteen months for another thing that will be the greatest since sliced bread but nope were not gonna tell you what it is, just wait it'll be great,..again.
ED might still be the best spacegame out there but it could've been so much better, being the best out there doesn't mean it can still be mediocre.

If it's gonna end this way, so be it, I had my share of fun with the game and well my money's worth but I'd rather be excited with fdev for what's coming and see ED become not only the best available but also the best imaginable.
Keeping players out of the loop is in my opinion not a good way to keep your customers excited.

And FIFA is a better football game.
