Credits now meaningless? Might as well remove? Discuss

no one even cares about credits

mats are currency

credits are a slight delay on the road to a bazillion rebuys

jeez

G5 pragmatism is the currency most sorely needed in this house

That doesn't mean it is a good thing. Personally I am of the view FD should have taken far more care with the credit economy BUT then materials could have been bought with in game currency. I can't imagine any scenario where a billionaire could not buy iron if they wanted to. It is how it is because "videogame!" But it is lazy imo. It is why I wish FD had stuck with the plan in Kickstarter. Anything and everything in game purchasable by in game credits BUT FD sell optional credits in the store. FD would have had to keep on top of the economy then. (And I would have enjoyed the gameplay earning skins etc)

Credits mean to me. I don’t use exploits or stack missions and I use third party softwares as little as possible. Basically just to find ships and modules. I’m poor, and allthough I have multiple ships, I don’t have Corvette or Cutter, and none of my ships are ”maxed out”. I’ve played about 1300 hours and still I need to save money to upgrade and maintain my fleet. Rebuys hurt me plenty. And I like it this way!

This is exactly how I like it too. However I am finding I have to ignore more and more parts of the game to STOP me being loaded.... And playing a game where I deliberately play inefficiently is not really ideal imo

I scanned a single system in the Bubble, no mapping, no First Discovery and earned enough for a T6.

From ONE system.

I'm not sure what your mate has been doing for his 30 hours.

I been doing a bit more "roaming" in the Bubble, and I'm downright annoyed that just "driving through" a populated system rewards me almost as much as if I'm out in uncharted space purposefully using the FSS and DSS. I'm probably making more from "discovering" the planet I'm running cargo to than I am from the actual running of cargo!

I don't like it :(

There's a path to acquire almost everything in the game the easy way. Many people will take it. Either it's hauling sightseers to get ranking/cash or hitting the latest gold rush for cash. Then there's the road to riches to get the Explorer elite status. Combat bonds and bounty hunting make Combat Elite rather easy as well. The only thing that's not made easier is traveling to the end of the galaxy, save for the new stopping points.

It doesn't matter what you call currency, it will be easy to get once a lot of people get focused on the game enough to find the secrets. Then they'll share them online and others will do these things without so much as lifting a finger to actually uncover these things. Just like that, another easy button but created by players in the name of subscriptions, perhaps trying to monetize their YT or whatever they do.

And, here we see again someone that don't know anything about how combat-rank works.

"Combat bonds and bounty hunting make Combat Elite rather easy as well."

Combat rank don't increse because bounties/vouchers - Combat rank is based on experience NOT on credits earned.
At total you need 1780 ELITE Npc kills to get to elite rank.

Sure, 1780 elite kills is something easy to a no-life dude, or even to someone that manange to get this rank BEFORE the (Dangerous+)npcs get overbuffed with god-enguinnered ships - But say this to an starter player that will need to run on the credits grind wall, then in the enguinners grind wall and finally will be able to start rank-up combat.

It's stupid.
So stupid that I'm trying to get Elite Exploration just by passively scanning systems. I'm at Surveyor in under 100 systems, with a maximum distance of 159LY.

I don't like it either.

Credits always become absurd after playing a game like this for a while, whether it's original Elite, any of the XBTF games or ED.
That's why I don't buy things like fuel scoops etc. as having to pay overheads keeps the life in the game for longer.

Since we can make Elite in Exploration by trading, we should be able to make Elite in trading by Exploring! After all, I'm "trading" important data with stellar cartography. While we are at it, I should be credited with pirate kills when I scan a system with RES, since I'm showing the cops where all the pirates hang out. Triple Elite, here I come :D

Combat rank for being interdicted.
Trade rank for viewing the Commodities screen.

It makes as much sense as Exploration rank for flying past a planet.

Returning to the OP I sugges then to add TAXES into the game [where is it] , with a mini game where you have to calculate your assets, the weekly income and the amount you can deduct (you get a bonus on the taxes for every rescue mission and every escape pods delivered).

Once calculated you have to go to the single coriolis station in the bubble that got the "Contact" to pay taxes and wait 1/2 hour since the arrival to get the docking clearance (a countdown timer starts when you ask for docking).

If you don't pay, the authorities will interdict you to force you to pay. Here another mini game starts where you can try to bribe them. [haha] [haha] [haha]

In Colonia there are no taxes on your income but you have to go to the custom office when you arrive to calcualte and pay the import/export tax and the VAT on your ship and goods

Not sure this misses OPs point.
Credit rewards are to high.
Its taken longer standing players a while to build up the cash for the biggest ships.
Now(apparently) you can do this in a week.

Im not a fan of removing game mechanics.... but fixing, balancing, addressing issues with a feature...yes.

Players now have huge sums of money and nothing to spend that money on. Which is just stupid from a design perspective.

Perhaps that's what the 'New Era' will be.
The Thargoids finally get around to tearing up the Bubble, destroying the galactic economy and the major and minor factions. Then we can all go back to being lone pilots scratching around in the ruins, just trying to survive. The whole game becomes much more 'Firefly'-esque, rather than continuing to transition into 'Eve with a better flight model'.

It won't be, of course. We'll just get walking around our ships and more minigames.

Perhaps that's because every time FD tried to add a money sink the forums exploded with cries of not touching people's credits. Every time FD tried to rein in credit generation people cried nerf. When FD (either through accident or design) added a way of getting massive amounts of credits people celebrated.

The community has spoken, don't touch their credits and make it easy to get them.

Damn plebs.

What should FD add that they could spend their billions, while they are still generating billions more? Bigger ships? When then when they have their bigger ships? Even bigger ships? Space stations? Whole solar systems? Galaxies?

The line has to be drawn somewhere.

I could use a bigger trade ship right about now (at least 1,000t shielded cargo capacity), and repairing damaged stations seems like the sort of scenario where charitable donations would allow players to feel they were helping without grinding. Both are optional ways for there to be benefit to having lots of cash.

I guess the the Dev's wants all of the players to PvP... With anyone having combat skills at least as good as my own, why - we could lose a billion or so credits in a week against the 'real' PvP players... more 'gold rushes' needed so I can stock up in advance please :D
