The death of a game...

I read through the OP twice and I saw no further mention of this "trend" that you originally alluded to.
Nor a reason why NES Super Mario Bros and Dragon Warrior are referenced anyway. I don't recall those games having forums or regular updates?

For me, after many years of playing this game, I am pretty sure it's dying off.

It still has that draw which once in awhile lures me back and convinces me the game's unique; but ultimately the game has been stale for a long time and the recent major update was a let down as it was so lacking and had a lot of changes that almost screamed "Look, I've been re-arranged or altered in some way to give you the IMPRESSION I was worked on so hard."

Sure some areas of the update were decent additions which I do like, however. But a lot of it for the hype it was getting was a let down and brought in a lot of bad bugs.

The fact some of the performance has taken a major hit to the point of being unplayable in populated areas and the instancing is the worst I've ever seen it, pretty much convinces me this game will remain practically broken as far as a major PvP game is concerned. It really disappoints me after spending hundreds on the game for all the editions and cosmetics in order to support the title, only to see FDev pour less and less love into it.

Anyways, I'm sure I'll still play the game once in awhile, but I'm actually glad to be free of it for the time being.

Not to mention, the poor performance of Elite on PS4 lately, for example: while out in the last CG (this is next) I noticed that opening the Galaxy map (to plot a route), it lags so badly that on multiple occasions the game HARD-LOCKED and I had to turn off the system.

I think you need a break kiddo. I take long breaks from Elite and when I return its still one of the best games I've ever played. Have you tried clearing the cache on your toy.

The moderation here is pretty good, the only thing they do is turn a blind eye to inflammatory statements and personal attacks if the poster happens to be a white knight, but don't do it for any knight less than white. Apart from that they're pretty good. There's no censorship or anything if its worded in non aggressive ways.

game bad! Orange man bad! Space game bad! Game die. Game break! Bad game die.

30 years of milquetoast more like it. I'll have a double shot flat white with one sugar thanks. No, eggs over easy. Hold the mushrooms, they don't suit me. Ta.

I sort of see how the impression that the fanbois get put down less than the haters can be arrived at anecdotally, but the fanbois generally make a point while being insulting, whereas (ime) the haters generally are just insulting without really making a point in the same post. I can imagine the decision to delete a post is easier when it adds nothing to the conversation, and I think there is a tendency for the haters to try to get infractions or suspensions for kudos amongst their peers. If they don't get an infraction they try harder until they get one it seems.

I have friends & regular acquaintances on both sides of many heated discussions & see their posts deleted fairly regularly across the board. I am often surprised to see so many posts remain after a heated argument.

IMO there is evidence to suggest a lob-sided situation but the imbalance doesn't come from moderation or FDev.

I have nothing but praise for the volunteer moderators of this forum.

Is the game buggy? Yeah, I accessed the comm panel tonight - and yes - you guessed it, total keyboard lockout. At his point the jankiness makes me wax nostalgic over Fallout New Vegas myriad broken "features".

Remind yourself that this is a kickstarter vanity project. This is not a AAA project put together by OLD Bioware or CD Projekt Red or Rockstar etc.

I have spent 4/5 of my time on the forums being critical of FDEV, but until there is legitimate competition in the genre - they really can do whatever they want (except for slf pilots that are not ugly and actually sit on the bridge, they have to fix that manure TOMORROW!).

The last UPDATE was atrocious! Hands down, in my 30 years of video gaming, I have never 'personally' seen any other update do so much damage to its game, ever.

Are we talking about ED here? Because the last patch made some really outstanding changes. Especially to mining.

After that patch player numbers shot up, so the community would seem to disagree with you.

The main bugs seems to be BGS releated, which is a shame, as the BGS is really borked now. But there were some significant changes with some good improvements. FD just need to get those things fixed.

Yeah, and once they fixed the extra chunks feature, the players have left again. And since they made the announcement that there won't be anything new until 2020, even more players left.

How quickly we forget that they said no such thing. The next MAJOR update is 2020 but there’s still new content every 3-4 months.

They did say that, but there's been no news on that either.

Apparently 'things' are coming, but we're not allowed to know what or when.

I've been out exploring and haven't come across many bugs apart from a couple in VR which, while annoying are certainly not show stoppers. And before I went on my trip out, I didn't notice any when in the bubble.

I'm sure there are some, or even lots. But in my experience, it's not the buggiest game I have ever played.

That's award goes to another.

A question to the moderators, why are you allowing a thread discussing forum moderation? I'm not saying you shouldn't, in fact, I very much think you should allow it, have a dedicated section for it, but you don't normally, and this is the first time I've seen you do so.

you dont need to wait for moderator to delete thread. just stop posting in it. More people post more people are interested in this topic so why delete...

I've noticed a trend in the past throughout the different ménage of games I've played in my life. From NES Super Mario Bros and Dragon Warrior, to the games of today and Elite Dangerous. I do this on occasion, notice patterns of behavior. And (hate starting a sentence with "and") I have noticed this game following an all too familiar pattern of behavior. The moderators of this forum helped me identify the pattern, so I want to tip my hat to them before getting too deep into this. Lately I have seen an above average number of "hot-headed" actions taken by moderators, not only on myself, but against the community as a whole. Threads being hastily moved, locked for anonymous reasons, and an alarming level of infractions being dished out across the board. This leads me to believe that the FDEV personnel is on edge for some unknown (to us) reason.

The last UPDATE was atrocious! Hands down, in my 30 years of video gaming, I have never 'personally' seen any other update do so much damage to its game, ever. The sheer level and volume, and magnitude of bugs introduced was astonishing (I am a PS4 player and understand that other platforms weren't as bad). Then the push-back of any new content for 18 months, the quality of content already received, and the increased tension of the moderator behavior on these forums are all observable, denotable facts that no one can deny.

For the second time inside a 3 month period the full content of the game is on sale for less than the original price of the vanilla content.

Not to mention, the poor performance of Elite on PS4 lately, for example: while out in the last CG (this is next) I noticed that opening the Galaxy map (to plot a route), it lags so badly that on multiple occasions the game HARD-LOCKED and I had to turn off the system. While defending our Home system from PVP'ers, once the instance numbers reached 8+ players, framerate began to drop alarmingly low. And the Galaxy Backdrop won't even fully load once you get within 10k of the Core because the star density gets too high. It begins to show cubes and star patterns, or your current ship's pattern of stars on the backdrop.

The removal of Community Goals, for whatever reason is a huge red-flag for me as well. It's almost as if FDEV has grown to disdain it's own Community. On every facet of it's game.

All of these things leads me to conclude that there is obviously something happening regarding ED behind the scenes that FDEV personnel are aware of, and are unable to express to the community. It feels like 'cut-backs'. Cut-backs to all of the aforementioned game aspects. It makes me wonder if Elite Dangerous is being 'cut-back' all together.

Please share YOUR thoughts of my observations, before this gets locked, or moved.

You'll get abuse for this one. Some of the mods are horrendous on here (and noted as such). They ALWAYS side with white knights from my experience. I don't know if they're employees but even if they volunteer to moderate then that probably implies an emotional attachment to the game that explains their bias. In fact, employees would probably be more candid about the state of the game.

You're 100% right about the previous update. It has been a total disaster in terms of stability combined with failing to deliver on some of the important updates.

Is the game DOOMED? I dunno. It may have enough fanboys to keep it turning over until the fabled 2020 update. But it is diminished for sure. ED has been one of the biggest under-achieving games I have encountered. It offered so much scope early on and when horizons was released it felt like the game was making progress. Then the dinosaurs came along and destroyed it all. I don't want to second guess what's going on behind the scenes. If anything, the mods must realise the dissapointment and frustration expressed on this forum and have perhaps responded by being more defensive than usual?

It's also not evidence of existence. We're in the dark, and that, apparently, is where Frontier wants to keep us.

I'm not quite sure why some people seem to think that Frontier are obligated to keep us informed every step of the way. We're customers, yes, but that doesn't give us access to their stand-ups, sprint reviews, roadmaps etc.
