The death of a game...

Well said.

It doesn't even matter too much if some people are not playing due to the lack of large updates for a while. Its only expected. Some people need/want constant updates to keep playing. I think most of us love new features in games. But there again, being of the older generation, i remember playing games for years that never got updates, or if they did, they were through expansion packs that came out a couple of years later and often cost as much as the base game did on release.

So, there is definitely an element of expectations, and probably demographics.

What really matters is FD's commitment to keeping the game running so we can keep playing. People complain about the P2P networking, but its potentially a plus for the long term future of the game as it means FD don't have to care about subscriptions (as that would lead to pandering to the LCD) or even how many are playing.

If they are going to take a long time for the next major update, well, its a shame, but the game remains the same. It doesn't magically become worse because of it. I'll keep playing while i'm not bored, and if i get bored, i take a break. What I don't do is post predictions of doom on the forums.

I think what we now have to do is wait and see just how good this update is. If we wait 2 years and its a bit rubbish, well, that will be sad. But even so, again, the game won't (or at least shouldn't) become worse because of it (barring of course changes that some people don't like - c.f. Recent exploration changes).

So, worst case scenario, keep playing when I want, keep enjoying the game, take breaks when i want/need (there ARE other games out there!!!! Shocking i know!), and then the mega update which turns out pants, so would be sad, but game is still the game, so keep playing as i want.

Best case scenario, same as above, except the mega patch is really awesome. Lots of players come back. Naturally FD will have some new bugs with new exploits in it, players who focus no credit gain will come back, exploit the hell out of the bugs, FD will fix the bugs, they will complain and rage quit again. Most other people will just be happy with the new content.

FD say they remain committed, and as long as that holds true, then that's all that really matters.

One day, they will switch off the servers, and if there is no offline patch, that will be the end of the game, and that is the only DOOOOM that really matters.

Players taking breaks or quitting? Meh, their business. ED is (for me), 90% a solo game anyway, even when in PGs/Open. The events i take part in are taken part in by those who enjoy the game and are not likely to rage quit over long waits for new content or exploits being fixed.

Well said yourself. Perhaps it is a generational thing? I look back at the days of carts and Amiga games where patches were, for all intents, impossible. I still go back to Frontier: Elite 2 now and then, and I guess I remember that when you spent your £40 or whatever it was (okay, on the Speccy it might have been £2.99!) you got what you got.

Hell, anyone play the Division? I love that game... and I was led to "expect" a kind of Elite-generational thing. The Division 2 has just been released. Um, do what now? Or Destiny! I think we're bloody lucky in some respects.

But I'm old, so I'm probably not speaking for the larger demographic here.

Mods don't work for FDev.

This game has been dying since beta, there were threads about it then.
This game is dying so hard that the devs behind its eventual successor, Star Citizen, are pulling out all the stops to get ready as quickly as possible, and may have a beta of their tech demo ready sometime around 2020...

While I am sure you are right, it is not like FDev incorporate any of the changes suggested through constructive feedback. EDIT: let alone a simple bugfix.

I'd have to ask, what do you base that on?

People have asked for improvements to mining. They got it.
People have asked for exploration to be more involved, not just honk and jump. They got it.
People have asked for the orrery. They got it.

And those are just things off the last big patch we got that came into my heads.

Oh, the PvPers made quite a few suggestions about combat balance and got 2 patches based off their feedback! Ok, it might have not been exactly what they wanted, but you can't expect devs to agree with all your points.

People have asked for lots of things, some of those things FD have done, some of the things they haven't done. FD can't do everything everyone wants. Even if they had the time and resouces, it would turn the game into a horrible mess.

I have my own list of desires for the game and have posted a fair number of suggestions over the years. I don't believe FD have ever directly looked at one of my suggestions and decided to implement it, but i'm sure they will have read at least some of them and given them fair consideration.

The main one i'm hoping for at the moment is our crew filling our spare seats in our cockpits, but i fear we won't get that for a long while, at least until space legs becomes a thing. :(

Star Citizen is a very good example of what happens if you say yes to everything every player requests.

@OP
PS4 is not an ideal platform for a game of this scope, no wonder there are a load of bugs to be found.
I also doubt PS4 will be able to handle the coming 2020 update and what comes after without hiccups or critical failures.
All in all, the worst idea FDev had was to port the game to consoles, crippling the potential of what could be done.
Even a gaming potato is more capable than a Playstation... just saying.

And about the CGs? they gonna rework how CGs are presented and how they work, in order to do that, they decided it's best to shut them down until they are ready, or would you replace critical components on a running airplane turbine?

Sorry, this is a bad argument.

They could build the new CG system separate from the live version, test it on the test servers, and only when its ready to be tested in live do they shut down the old system and introduce the new.

Its more likely they see that CG numbers are down and its not worth their efforts keeping running them while interest is low, so allow the guys responsible for CGs to do other work while the devs make the new system.

Its not about doom like the other guy said, its probably not about the technical aspects like you suggest, its most likely just efficient use of resources.

guys stop complaining, i stopped play year ago when i think this game is bad, slow updates no content. I turned game on few days ago and actually core mining is quite fun.

So, stop playing for a while and wait year two for new gameplay. As long as they keep making new things this game is alive. People playing game for all cost make this topics just.. calm down.
