Hey XlucarioX,

Planet Coaster is currently only being developed for Windows PC's. You could try BootCamp to play Planet Coaster on your Mac, but do know that it is not officially supported.

Some people have had luck running Windows through Bootcamp. I've used it priorly on other games, and it works well. Only issue is that most Mac's don't have very powerful GPU's for gaming purposes and that Planet Coaster does require something more beefy. What are your Mac's specs?

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB,

i would honestly like to run it on mac without having to use other softwere though.

The game is being built on the Windows platform to make extensive use DirectX compute shaders and other technologies that are exclusive to Windows (as previously stated by Lead Programmer AndyC).

As others have noted, it might run in Bootcamp (I believe the GPU has at least hardware support for DirectX 11) but it's unlikely to run very well, and Frontier wouldn't be able to support you with it. It's unlikely that there'll be a direct Mac port any time soon for the reasons that Gregor stated: OSX support (both in terms of graphics APIs and graphics drivers) for gaming is very out-of-date, and Planet Coaster is making direct and copious use of features that aren't readily available on that platform.

The unfortunate reality is that the demand for a Mac version of the game is going to be quite low, and that the amount of work to support it is likely to be quite high. It doesn't make much sense commercially to plough a whole lot of R&D budget into something that you're never going to make back. :(

How great would it be to have a mac version!

I'm sure I'm not the only one. I have a Apple computer...
Just to make it clear, I don't got a windows computer.
I would love to play Planet Coaster only there are not any plans for a Mac port of Planet Coaster.
Too bad!

I'm wondering if there are more people with this issue.
I'm sure there will be, please don't hesitate to respond on this message!

Because a Mac version would be like a dream coming true,...
I hope in the further there will be a mac version so everybody can enjoy the game...

Sorry it just wont happen I am afraid. It has been asked a number of times with the same response but the point is that it wont be technically possible.

I disagree on that point, xyphic,
Mac version demand, I think it will be lower as the windows demand but not as low as you stated.
If it was so that the demand would be so low for a Mac port I don't know why there are so many developers coming with Mac versions. If they do it right people will get the game that only focused on Mac software before and don't even know Planet Coaster just yet.

Also the number of people having a Apple computer is still growing...

I'm a Mac user, all my life... And I need a Mac.
And I think a Mac Port will be a good step forward!
so i agree with thrillking

It is to do with the extensive use of DX11 that Apple cannot support unfortunately without a lot of re-coding.

The way to run it is from the list at moment

- To get windows on your apple machine with Bootcamp
- To try an emulators that you you can buy, like Parallels and VMWare Fusion
- Wine (you could try it but not everything is supported)

That or just cave and buy a proper computer [haha]

macOS doesn't support "Compute Shaders" functionality to a high enough standard due to it coming bundled with a six year old version of OpenGL. It's the same reason the Horizons expansion is not supported in Elite Dangerous despite the base game having a native macOS build.

Unless Apple update OpenGL (unlikely, they've shown zero interest in this) I wouldn't hold out any hope for a native port. It's likely to be BootCamp or nothing for the foreseeable future.
