Refund RCTW for the early access?

I am going to eventually have both games, however cancelled my preorder for RCTW and got the money refunded back to my credit card which allowed me to purchase early access for PC. Once RCTW releases I will buy that, but see PC as going to be more fun sooner than RCTW. I love the look of both games but the character of PC makes me all squishy.

Thanks guide for your advise I'm going to refund using original payment and I didn't even know if that was a thing so thanks

Well, I'm not going to cancel my pre-order before the game is released. I'd rather play it for myself anyways.
What I will do, however, is neutrally stand with either foot in both doorways. So if one ship eventually sinks, I can simply shift my weight a bit and come out just fine.

I am with you on this - I am doing both as I love this type of game but I have never had goosebumps watching a game trailer before like got did when I saw...

I still get goosebumps watching it now :)

I cancelled the RCTW pre-order on steam after the 1st Beta, they have changed a lot, but they are clearly reserving and holding back a lot of other content still. If they cannot even do a live twitch stream, it just shows you the state of the game currently...expect another push back. But hey...that's enough of RCTW....I'm looking forward to PC and have pre-ordered the early bird. I cannot wait untill March for the Alpha :)

I preordered the deluxe edition and I will just not refund it. I will get the 27€ version of Planet Coaster and I will just enjoy playing both games. But it is true that right now PC looks better.

just stop perordering games, beta or not.. dont pay for testing, pay for a product.
I never put money down on something that i cant immediately download and play, hence i haven't pre-ordered RCTW or PC

Amen! I learned that lesson from TPS, and I donated too much $$$ to that.

That's why you wait until you get closer to the release date before purchasing. [noob]

...Answer: Cash-out. You can only purchase the game- pre-order anyways- through Frontier.
So many people "pre-ordered" RCTW just so that they could play the beta knowing they wouldn't stick around...heck, even I considered it- bad move.
I preordered it because I was desperate for a new theme park game. Since RCT3 was the last good one, I hoped RCTW was gonna be ok. But the beta s*cked hard and I got so mad I refunded it. Then I learned about Planet Coaster and my world changed :D

Exactly! Glad to see you over here by the way. I completely agree that unless someone literally can't buy one game if they have already bought the other, it does make sense to hang on to the RCTW order just in case there is something in the game that justifies the price tag.

Also definitely makes sense to follow both games closely and be across both forums. There have been a lot of long term Atari forum members appearing here recently.

I think they've thrown the towel in and give up altogether. They might as well. Have you got a job for Matlab, Frontier? He would make a good tea boy!

I'm not so sure about that!!

At 9am David Braben orders a cup of tea...
At 10am Mattlab sends him a photo of a teabag and asks him if he's super excited yet??
At 1pm David receives an email stating the cup of tea has been delayed, the original kettle has been fired, and that a new kettle has been brought in.
At 3pm David receives another email inviting him to go to the kitchen for a demonstration of what progress has been made.
At 3:10pm David gets to the kitchen, but is informed the demonstration has been cancelled, and that the cup of tea is delayed again, currently with no firm date.

This would get frustrating quickly.

I like that Deuce, it made me smile, I think that just about sums it up. lol. I will reserve my judgement of the other game after release, but even if it does turn out to be ok, I think I will be spending most of my time with Planet Coaster, as it appeals to me more in such a lot of ways. So far Planet Coaster has exceeded my expectations and you have to give 10 out of 10 to Frontier, for the way they are presenting this game. Regular updates, in constant touch with the community and so far everything looking like a "triple A game" And there is still at least another nine months to final release, so it can only get even better. Just keeping my fingers crossed that we finally get UGC. [rolleyes]

I like that little analogy too! It's one thing for something to go wrong, and for a company to bounce back, but for it to happen multiple times and to be delayed again and again I'm starting to feel Atari is going down the Rockstar route with GTA V (Remember how that was delayed countless times also?). The result of that was it took a lot longer, but in the end we got a fairly polished (Sort of) game that worked (Sort of). So I'm tempted to say we shouldn't be judging Atari too badly just for not being able to contain the problems they were having as for all we know Rockstar could have gone through the same stuff and they ended up with an extremely successful game in the end.

I've kept my copy on pre-order simply because I love both franchises now, but in terms of who I prefer at this moment in time? I'm going to have to say Planet Coaster..

There are a few fundamental differences between RCTW and what happened with Rockstar though.

For one, RCTW doesn't have an endless amount of time to fix it all, as they don't have enough money. And most importantly of all, Rockstar weren't up against the developers that made the previous hit game!! That's the killer thing. Atari themselves relied very heavily on the past games success and fan loyalty to the franchise. But now their competitor actually has the key people that worked on that last game! And lastly, a general lack of planning and vision at Atari have led to a game that might be 'okay', one day. But it's never going to have the strength or personality required to make people really care about playing it.

However, having said all that... I will admit that even though I can't see how, it is technically possible I could be proven wrong :) So it certainly makes sense to hang on to your pre-order just in case.

I have now 55€ from my refund of RCTW and waiting at my paypal for paying early access:)

I pre ordered RCTW over steam and paid with PayPal. And at the refund page, I choose PayPal instead of steam account!

I also pre-ordered the RCTW Deluxe edition and I would like a refund because I moved to the dark side. Lol

I search steam help and support areas but I can't find the option to get a refund. When I check my order should I Select that I dont want this item in my library? (which is wierd because it is not listed in my library anymore, not sure if they already cancelled the project)

This place is becoming like a refugee camp for wounded RCTW purchasers!!

I pre-ordered before knowing frontier was working on PC. A week later PC was announced and I've been following both project closely but after playing the beta I knew the other game was not even finished to be released by the end of the year.

Today I joined the early pass and I wanted to cancel my pre order so i can use that money on something well spent. ;)

Welcome then :)

My story is much the same as yours ;)
