Coaster Aging

I'm sure lot's of us have been on coasters that were smooth when they first opened but after years of use they have gotten to be very rough rides. I was thinking this might be a feature that could be implemented in the game. In previous park building games, the only sign of aging on a coaster or ride was how reliable it was. The more years the ride was open, the more prone to breakdowns it became if it was not maintained properly.

In Planet Coaster however, it would be cool if not only the reliability of the coaster was affected, but the forces exerted on the guests would became higher as well. If the player doesn't maintain the coaster well as it ages, the G-forces will start to gradually get more extreme as the riders are tossed around on the rough track. Or the intensity rating could also increase and if left unchecked could result in a ride with too high an intensity rating for anyone to enjoy. Scheduled maintenance and maybe a budget option towards how much you want to spend on coaster upkeep could be what can bring the ratings back down to acceptable levels.

This could be an interesting feature. I had no idea until a recent experience on Colossus at Thorpe Park that coasters got more rough with age. It really hurt my head at the back of the train! It would make management more of a challenge for sure.

Nice! I like that idea! That will add a lot of realistic into the game! But... I want a option to reset the coaster aging, so when we make a video or something from it, it looks like a brand new thing :p

A dirty coaster may be cool too, that every week a group of people are cleaning the coasters (and the coaster is in maintenance then)

That would be so cool. The track could get gradually worn, guests could (assuming thoughts will be a thing) say "x was really rough", and you'd almost be forced to replace old rides.

Good job thinking of that - I hope it's added :)

maybe a repair / refresh option in the coaster-menu that allows the track reset, but the older the ride the more you have to pay for it. that would be nice :)

I mostly agree but I don't want it to get to the point where you're forced to replace an old ride, I'd rather see an option to "refurbish".

In RCT3, aging coasters (and all rides, in general) broke down more often, cost more per year to maintain, took longer to repair, lost customers. There wasn't a visual indication -- that would be good to have.

Also, there wasn't an option to refurbish - not sure how you'd refurbish a coaster except replace the track - possibly an in-game option, but the (real world) expense would make it cheaper to replace ( and re-design for the latest pop-theme. )

This should really be a feature. Like with wooden roller coaster if they were light brown they start to turn dark brown. Same with B&Ms it starts to lose it color this would be a kickass feature

I'd love to see this as well!!

I don't know of any rides that have ever been refurbished, though Kennywood changed the Steel Phantom into Phantom's Revenge. The ride was incredibly rough and would give you headaches after leaving it.. they redid the track, trains, some changes to the layout, and removed the inversions and now it's totally smooth!

That's essentially what I think the refurbish option would be. Morgan Manufacturing replaced track on Phantom's Revenge; sometimes cars will be replaced and the ride will be smoother as a result; etc. I know there are rides out there built by defunct companies whose trains have been replaced by B&M for example, or the SLC at Kentucky Kingdom which just got its trains replaced and is supposedly smoother now too. Perhaps there's a better word to use for such things than refurbish, but I definitely think these maintenance upgrades give old rides new life. People don't really think about the year a ride was built when they call it "old" and choose not to go on it, they look at its condition, and so old rides often maintain popularity.

Having coasters age would be a great addition to game play. If you have a Cedar Point or Magic Mountain sized park you might be forced to make a life like management call to remove older rides as having a large collection of coasters and maintaining might, and should, be expensive. RCT has always been too easy in my opinion. I would always take just a few minutes to hire staff and set of the right money making formula and you were good to go -- endless money making from then on out. I would be cool to have to actually budget a park in tycoon mode and I'm all for detailed management in broad strokes -- such as setting up training guidelines for all staff -- but not clicking on each staff member individually to train them. Each coaster could possibly have up-keep settings with tiered budgets that grow as the ride ages. Paint could fade every few years until rides become completely faded out and rusted with frequent accidents and downtown. Multiple cars could dwindle with age or be damaged beond repair. Wear and tear based on number of rides given? Fun stuff.

Yes. I would really like to see more avenues for revenue ; vending, carnival games, etc. To keep it challenging we would also need this as a source of expense.

I agree, I'm hoping for some more challenging simulation gameplay than any of the RCT games.

I think everyone is burnt out of the "have x number of guests in your park by a specific date" challenges. Adding coaster aging (as well as ride aging) would be a nice touch and step in the right direction.

Pls no! Or give the option to disable it. There's nothing more annoying then ride breaking down on sandbox.

Now, if they do give use a timescale too to set how often ride break and when you need to replace them then it would be a good idea.

We shouldn't cripple the game part for sandbox. But with that said, frankly Sandbox should stop all management interactions and be pretty much like it is now. Guests walking around looking happy. But when money is unlimited what's the point of any management.

What scenario goals would you like to see, beyond the usual (Park Rating/Park Value/Company Value/Peep Count/Park Rating/Sales/Excitement Ratings)?

I mean, what else is there?
