What are your ideas for Thememaker items

Coaster cars from the various coasters and tracked rides already in game... (Just for that added feeling of "Danger" on some of the dark ride inspired rides... )

Mushroom patches
Fairy Rings(Mushrooms growing in circles
Giant mushrooms.
Glowing variants of the mushrooms(Though this probably won't happen since from what I've read we can't make lighted objects.)
Monster animatronics... (Walking zombies of various types, Pirate, modern, medieval/fairy tail, Sci Fi, Western/Vintage)
Mad scientist stuff... (Shame about the lack of lighting and VFX this will be hard to pull off without it I think)
Villagers(Fairy tale, Western, Spooky, Sci Fi...)

Here is my second item after Darth Maul (not yet finished) :

To people asking for new building pieces of an existing set, this will be impossible unless Frontier give us the textures they used for those sets.

Castaway: I have a feeling some people can hack the textures out of existing objects. ;) But meanwhile: good work!

Oh yeah I didn't think of that ! Don't know much of how a video game is packed but hope someone will find thoses textures soon [happy]

The question is will Frontier allow items with hacked textures to be shared?

The other question is are the mods going to delete this for us talking about hacking at all?

I'd say the whole reason why we have to follow the cumbersome route of uploading to a webservice and praying that it accepts the submission in reasonable time (if at all), is to prevent us messing with the game engine and its files in the first place.

Also, I wouldn't be too enthusiastic with all the non-Frontier IP's -like Star Wars- just yet until we get a bit more insight in the terms and conditions of said service.

When a game is being build all these sort of files are being compressed into different files that only the game itself can read. In this case probably the OVL files that i find everywhere in the PlanCo folders. It is out of my league to open them up.

Also this is probably illegal.[big grin]

More wild speculation. Why do you think it will need to be submitted and then accepted? The FAQ states you upload your models and textures, set the in-game values, check for errors, and then download the final asset. And what danger is there for non-Frontier IP's? People have been creating fan-based buildings and rides for a long time, and uploaded them on the Workshop without issues. The Community Management team even acknowledged a lot of them as much as they could without directly "advertising" the IP.

Hopefully some texture borrowing is fine as long as it is used in good way, expanding the game, adding missing pieces? Otherwise they just have to be clear about it not be ok and we will not do that.

I am not saying that it is possible to pull out textures, I am just speculating.

Think of the Thememaker's Toolkit as a conversion tool, a bridge between your imagination & creations and the game. You can upload and work with a limited number of scenery objects at a time; the limit is there because it is an online service, and as such limited by online storage capacity. To enable everyone to use it, there will be a limit per user. When you are done with a specific object, you can delete it online and store it on your local computer. If you choose so, you can also share it on the Steam Workshop through the game, at which point your local file will be uploaded to Steam. Deleting an object at the Thememaker's Toolkit website will free up a slot for a new object to work on.

The conversion of objects won't require manual approval per each conversion. It is an automated process. The processing time may vary depending on the uploaded object; more complicated objects (in terms of 3D data etc) may require more processing time.

If you take an ingame screenshot of a wall with certain textures and then use that image as textures, does that count as hacking as well?

There are multiple ways to do so, without actually hacking any game files.

You could take a screenshot, but than you need to make it seamless again, and give it the right size (1024x1024 for example) during that process you will lose quality in the texture. Also no matter what tool you use to make it seamless, you will always have some smudgy parts.

I am not saying that this is impossible tho, because not many people will probably see it[wink]

Sounds a bit strange that Frontier obviously has less web space available than Shyguysworld, which for years has been offering thousands of RCT3 objects in his CS database for download.

I wouldn't use the word 'obviously' if I was you.

We do not know the limit, file sizes and other limits and criteria for the Thememaker's Toolkit. What we do know is that Frontier wants to enable as many players as possible to use the feature and store creations. Personally I think that is why they have come up with a storage limit. Maybe they will increase the storage limit over time? They increased the object count of blueprints, so they can increase storage if they want. Just rent some more space on an online web service.... Time will tell.

I understand this website as being the middleman site...or a portal to post items that will then be converted to the game format/structure. Once its converted...it doesn't have to reside there anymore. At that point it would be put in the Steam workshop where all the work is complied and saved long term for downloading. What SG has is more like the Steam workshop than what this site is intended to be.

Keep in mind that textures are only one component of an object's material.

This whole endeavour into proper asset creation will help many of us sharpen our 3D skills and knowledge, and that is a very good thing!

I will be taking up the challenge to create assets based on requests here. I've found in the past when you make something that someone has asked for, it increases the desire to get it done right, as there's someone waiting for it.

I'm rusty in low-poly work, but now have a reason to improve and update my tools. Polygon reduction, materials merge, texture baking, LOD generation and stuff like that for game engine pipelines, is a subset of 3D many artists probably don't need to bother with depending on their field.
