Worth buying now?

My interest is not playing the game now, i.e. Alpha. I am willing to wait for the final game that is why I pre-ordered. Isn't a pre-order in a way similar to a backer?

Of course, you are automatically recognized as a backers, if you have pre-ordered the game at £35. I recommend you also take the pack expansions, you will be earning for the future

So does that mean that as a "backer" of a certain level, you get the same benefits as a backer of that same level from the Kickstarter days though? I mean, I can understand them saying no, but can equally NOT understand why they wouldn't still offer those perks as incentive to sign up - particularly given the delays and fallout over the infamous newsletter shennanigans.

Grind and spiders? Second job you have to pay for? Middle management induction course? Only EVE. And that was fun precisely because it was intellectually challenging and I could subsist quite comfortably by torturing then eating the poor. Dangerous looks weak sauce compared to EVE in many core gameplay areas. They have intentionally removed all edge and made it impossible to fail. That kind of game is fun enough in the proper context but it gets old fast. As things stand I am not prepared to drop silly money on it (yet).

I think when you reach a certain age you tend to grow out of fanboi nonsense and learn through bitter experience that its always best to be patient and objective about purchases. Especially after reading the DDF archive.

Different strokes for different folks. Eve to me is a spreadsheet in space. A game needs to be fun and engaging.

As mentioned before - these prices has to be seen as donations. And yes, this a lot of money.
If you are interested in flight sims like X-Plane you will get to these prices quite fast - besides hardware (Hotas, Pedals, TrackIR/Occulus, MFDs,...) also for software, be it planes, airports, addons (advanced FMS...), real navigation data (Navigraph), charts, etc.pp.

In fact this question can't be answered in a general manner. You simply have to ask yourself if it is worth to YOU, is the risk bearable for YOU, are YOU willing to support the development by donation and finally are you able to pay that price.

For me the decision was not so easy but finally answered these question with yes - but this is my personal decision.

So - to come back to the original question: Yes, I think it is worth!
Other say "no" and thats equally correct to my opinion.

Have fun!

I totally disagree with that. Frontier Developments are not a charity. You buying exactly what you're buying. It's already been stated that the bulk of the investment for ED is coming from other sources and not KS or the Paypal site. The KS and Paypal site were to generate a small proportion of the funding and to demonstrate the appetite for the game (may be to potential investors). I think that is exactly what KS should be used to do but that's a different topic.

I'm a little confused to what I'm totally buying here.

On this link https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat/elite-dangerous-beta.html I assume that I'm paying the extra cost to play BETA and also receive the release game. But what does this notice mean? "IMPORTANT: The Beta edition does NOT include any expansion downloadable content. These can be purchased separately as they become available."

Reason I ask this is that this link https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat/elite-dangerous.html for the regular, cheaper edition doesn't have that disclaimer.

So my thoughts were. I'm paying $75 bucks to play beta and when the game releases have the game to play but can not get any future expansions from just this purchase. But if I buy the other game for $55 I cant play beta but get the release and future expansions?

And what is future expansions mean? We have all seen games add a new ship and call it an expansion or a game do a full blow expansion of new areas and gameplay. OR is expansion used as their little additions to the pimp my ship store?

Also, am I correct that buying into beta also secures a copy of the full game too?

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, haven't found that answer.

I'm a little confused to what I'm totally buying here.

Following release of the game there are three 'flavours' of DLC which will slowly become available.

1) Major expansions which add a new aspect to the game: planetary landings, getting out of your ship, etc. These will be sold - price currently unknown. £20 or so is probably a reasonable guess

2) Minor expansions containing new content, features etc. These will be free

3) Microtransaction 'game extras' sold through the store. Currently just skins.

There used to be an 'expansion pass' on sale which you could buy to pay for all future (major) expansions in one go at (presumably) an overall discount. This is no longer on sale.

There were also various levels at which you could join in: alpha, premium beta, beta and a released version of the game. Alpha and premium beta phases have now passed and so are obviously no longer on sale. They were priced at a higher level than game + expansion pass so they included the expansion pass in their price. The levels which are currently on sale (beta and finished game) do not.

So in summary, the talk of 'not including expansions' is a bit of a historic relic, to distinguish beta from alpha and premium beta. Neither of the currently available options contain the expansion pass. The only practical difference between the two is allowing beta access.

Thank you for the reply. At first when I read their store description, I didn't see the digital retail included so I thought that I had to pay $75 for beta then another $50 for retail copy, then more money depending on expansion. But for some reason when I looked at it this week, I now see that it includes the retail game also.
