General / Off-Topic Jurassic World Evolution - General Discussion

The best example of what you get when you pre-order a game is Planet Coaster itself. A lot of us has bought the game as Alpha Version and the game still feels unfinished 'til today.
Good example. Sadly but true. It is very amazingly beautiful visually and soundwise but not much of game.

Yea... quite a scathing review there...

I don't think this is a good thing for Frontier, but it may be a good thing for PC. Why continue to devote resources in a project which has reviewed badly when you can put the resources back into an IP which has done well...

I dont want to stamp all over Jurassic world, but there might be a silver lining for us PC fans...

I've learned over the years not to add to much value to reviews by critics.

It is an indication and I really love dinosaurs, so I might still enjoy the game even though it has a low score.

But what it does do for me, is that I can say for sure now, that the price of € 50,- for the pc version is probably pretty overpriced.
But yeah, that is because of the console releases. I'll wait till the prices drop a bit.

You could look at it another way in that if the game does badly (#1 seller on Steam currently) then it would be bad news for PC. Lower than predicted sales = less resources to continue development on their current IPs. It's 1 reviewer, these days gamers can make their own minds up whether a game is worth it or not watching streamers on Twitch/Youtube (6.5k viewers currently watching 1 streamer with early access on Twitch). That IGN review realistically doesn't mean as much as it would have done back in the day. And yes it is quite pricy (compared to PC for instance) but I guess a big part of that is down to Universal.

I have to say...I hope it does ok, but I agree...this may be good for PC. I watched the live game play streams and was not that impressed. Graphics, as expected were great, and there were a number of nice features...but game play seemed very slow and lots (almost too much) of management needs. So I guess for those that really really like management, this may be more for them. I also notice some really severe clipping of the dinos with the scenery/surroundings which was really distracting to me personally.

I've heard games that are released on multiple platforms need to stick to the same prices in beginning (discounts will come eventually). And as a lot of console games only start at €50 it looks like the pc version has to match that (like a lot of other multi platform games) And yes, the License probably helps with it too.

I don´t think it´s for "people who like the management". From the review, it sounds like even people who like management games might not like it (not everyone ofcourse). It´s just that Frontier has been having issues with gameplay/management balancing and this problem is appearently still among them.

"Sure, the dinosaurs look nice enogh, but the process of unlocking new species is beyond tedious and actually running the business is shalow and quickly gets stale." -> That description fits PC perfectly and looks like they just made the same mistakes.

Frontier does have very talented art team, but they should do something about the gameplay now, please...

Lets wait for more reviews though.

Although I feel that PlanCo is a lost cause, so to speak; I had high hopes that this new game would be an ideal opportunity for Frontier to learn and improve management features, thus paving the way for a Planet Coaster 2.

The RPS Review does not bode well, seems like the management is shallow, grindy and still lacks proper feedback about what is going on and what is expected from the player. Of course that all sounds too familiar, but at least Planet Coaster has the creative aspect as a saving grace. Which seems to be completely absent from Evolution, as feared. Oh well.

I'm not into management sim's that much, and much prefer sandbox play to use my imagination. At first this game looked really good, the animations are top-notch and the environment is gorgeous. But I have no desire to play hours of what sounds like exceedingly tedious gameplay to finally unlock sandbox, only to then also need to play hours more of tedious gameplay to unlock everything else.

If this was priced at maybe a quarter of it's current price it might be worth it just to experiment a little and view some of the content even if I'm not up for all that tedious crap. But I'm not going to pay such a high full price for a game I won't get much enjoyment out of, even if it's gorgeous...I can't fully enjoy it based just on it's looks. At least in PC, for all it's faults and lacking on the management sim side, the sandbox pretty much allows me to play as I wish, and as my imagination allows. From everything I've heard JWE doesn't even meet those minimum requirements I have. I'll pass.

A beautiful game doesn't make an enjoyable game just because it's beautiful... I think Frontier has forgotten that.

Game isn't out yet. Well, Steam has locked it until New Zealand time turns 13 June. It's currently 12 June 9:03 p.m so a few more hours. Keralis has JUST uploaded some gameplay of it. Surprised he didn't do any earlier players or attend the demo. I went for the Deluxe Edition which comes with a few more dinos which is NZ$76 or the normal base version is NZ$67 on Steam.

I played and completed the first island before I had to go to work. In a lot of respects this is step back from Planet Coaster, but this could be partly because it is a multi-format game and is restricted by liciencsing.

It's a pretty decent game, but I can't see me playing it x months down the line unless there is a decent DLC for it, If they could replicate the ideas of the Jurrasic Park campaign into Planet Coaster, it would make me a very happy bunny. It's pretty much what I expected , and at the end the day I tend to what games I like or not.

All the reviews I have read so far paint it as exactly what I expected. Definitely a pass for me. I mean if I REALLY want to play with dinos I have our ARK server. As a builder more than a manager there is just no there, there for me with JWE. Oh well, hope those of you getting it have fun! [bored]

Interested to see how the Steam reviews go once released, time will tell...

82%/very positive so far (of course it's still only day 1 so could fall slightly) and #1 seller so currently it seems to have been a success from Frontier's perspective. Yes some may wish things were done differently but it's certainly fairing better than the 4.8 IGN review would have predicted.

In my opinion, the game lacks creativity. Predetermined buildings that you can not make according to your own taste, 42 dinosaurs you can breed .. and then? You watch the certainly nice animated Sauerieren, how they fight, people eat and you have to catch the lost dinosaur again. Can be nice, but can be quite boring after a couple of times.

But honest opinions are obviously not asked or desired.

Bad reviews or not... letting the dinosaurs escape and terrorize your park is super fun! LOL
