General / Off-Topic Jurassic World Evolution - General Discussion

These problems were always around with modding, but pro always outweight cons. Not even saying Frontiers are causing these problems with workshop items already, as with every update, they update some scenery/prop silently...

This. I think it is a bit silly to pretend that they are caring so much for compatibility of old savegames while they break player's creations already by unnecessarily tinkering with existing assets and leave them unfixed for at least three months (and counting).

Besides; I'm sure that if Frontier would have allowed it, mods would have fixed the infamously missing metal textures within days or better; Provided a nicer looking, more optimized and recolorable chimney instead!

Interesting you mention that. If Frontier breaks an in-game item then it's Frontier that have to fix it. If a mod causes problems then it's normally a wait for the creator to fix the issue with their mod and if it's anything like Skylines some mod creators either take ages or simply don't fix their mod. It's cases like that where the cons can outweigh the pros.

But Frontiers us slow, unreliable and some problems they apparently don't want to fix. It's same in both cases, just in mods, anyone else can try to do it. And nobody is forced to use mods, if they are afraid of issues. So modding is only a good thing. Also, I haven't noticed some huge problems with Skylines mods. It's worse around dlc releases, but usually get sorted out...

Indeed (after a few weeks in some cases). My main concern though is that if someone inexperienced makes use of a mod, then it may be potentially problematic.

82%/very positive so far (of course it's still only day 1 so could fall slightly) and #1 seller so currently it seems to have been a success from Frontier's perspective. Yes some may wish things were done differently but it's certainly fairing better than the 4.8 IGN review would have predicted.

Still #1 seller but rating down to 75%, I presume free updates will be forthcoming to address any common issues players have with the game so let's see if that can stop the rating slump. And mods aren't the be all and end all, it's way too early to be worrying about that for both JP and PC.

The sales figures for JWE have been very healthy compared to Planet Coaster. It's amazing what a established brand can have on sales. (I am purely going on number of players on steam with the first week. I would take steam ratings as a pinch of salt TBH.

I'm sure they wouldn't be happy with a falling rating though, whether it's selling well or not (due to the name or whatever). Clearly a higher one would generate even more sales and I can imagine that's something they'd want to put right. Good base game but room for improvement it seems for JWE. I guess the time constraints to get it out for the movie release may have played a part but fortunately online updates are a thing these days [up]

well, it never caused a big problem. Even in 90´s. So saying it would be a problem now is just a poor excuse. Especially since Frontiers are causing same problems by themselfs with unwanted modifications of models....

I'm not going to bother arguing - all I will say is I've had experience of problematic mods. It would ultimately depend on what kind of modding was allowed though (as cosmetic modding would be more in the realm of UGC).

For €55 I expect more content for this game. There are 5 islands + sandbox in the game. I think that's 20-30 hours gameplay to complete the 5 islands. And... it's a basic version of Planet Coaster. I would like to see we can design our own park... Paths, trees, bushes, flowers, shops, lanterns, bins and more.

I think I will wait till Jurassic World Evolution is 25-30 Euros.

Just unlocked Sandbox Mode today. The first campaign island is super easy once you start off. The second island is just depressing and too hard to rebuild so go back to your first island and get that up to level 4.

Tips is 100% genome for at least 4 different dinosaurs and above 90% other dinosaurs. Have 2 food shops/gift shops/clothes shop, and an ACU centre and ranger centre. A hotel helps too.

Unfortunately NVidia Shadowplay decided not to save my recorded video experience of me unlocking sandbox mode. Checked my files and did not save that 1 hour gameplay recording which I could have edited. Then NVidia Shadowplay said it wanted to update. Software updates are too annoying and too frequent and I blame it for the reason why the software didn't save the recording.

It's a great game, totally with the Deluxe Edition price of NZ$74 on Steam. Great graphics, and fps is no where near as bad as Planet Coaster. I give the game a 9/10.

If you want to unlock Sandbox, you have to work for it and earn it. It can seem daunting at first, wishing there was a mod or option to be able to play it straight away, but after 3 hours or so of playing the campaign on the first island, you should have done enough gameplay and work to unlock it.

In it's current state as a final product, JWE is an embarrassment to an otherwise amazing and talented team. What the heck was Frontier thinking?

If you think they are 'amazing and talented' how can it be an embarrassment? If the latter is true then in your eyes they wouldn't be that would they?

Amazing and talented people can still make mistakes and that is exactly what JWE is. I'm guessing it was a mistake based on short term financial gain. I can't really blame them since they are a business and they need to make money, but I wish they wouldn't have sacrificed their standards and reputation in exchange for a quick buck.

Not according to the post before yours, they rate the game 9/10.

I don't own the game, but recently watched the 1997 sequel, Lost World. Now *that* was an embarrassment. It's shot well (Spielberg), but dialog and story is terrible.

I skipped the 2001 movie, Jurassic III because it sounds like it's the worst of the lot.

Then I watched the 2015 movie Jurassic World. Oh dear... At first I thought it looked promising, but the visuals could not save this movie from being an absolute insult on our intelligence to the point of being offensive. The "Auntie Clare" character runs around the whole film in heels. She even has a "damsel in distress" moment complete with seductive pose at the foot of an angry T-Rex. It's 2015, so she's "getting things done" in this scene, but it' s just so cringey, I could barely watch. Heels stay on the whole time. I was gob-smacked they lowered the bar to such depths. Did a teenager write the script, or some crusty loser stuck in mid 1980s generic movie mode?

This franchise has too much popcorn plausibility. Realism, grit, suspense, tension, storytelling all absent. In their place are only crimes against the art of film-making.

A video game is the only hope for this franchise to claw back some credibility after more than twenty years of bad movies. The only good movie was the first one.

Honestly, this 9/10 is slowly becoming not true. Even metracritics is dropping down. Steam reviews do drop too. I´m not saying it´s a disaster, but that´s what Frontier´s games can do. More and more people will realize the flaws as the time will go by. Just like me (and other people with PC). I was also giving 9/10 to PC, if not even 10/10 at the very beginning. But I slowly realized the game is no challenge at all, that it´s more like a sandbox builder. And on top of that, I started to realize their communication is not as good as it looks.

JPE and PC have too many same problems very often mentioned by quite a lot of people. And maybe JPE is still ok, but if they make another game like this and then another one with the exact same problem, I bet they will start feeling the drop.

Just from my surroundings, most friends bought PC, yet they already stopped playing it. And they didn´t want to buy JPE too, because they thought it will be the same (and they were right). My other friend, who ended up buying JPE (and had an opportunity to play it at his place) said, he is also not going to buy Frontier´s game in the future without being sure they didn´t repeat the mistakes.

I accept others opinion, but it´s needed to say that now you are just completely wrong on this one and you are actually hurting yourself....

Honestly, this 9/10 is slowly becoming not true.

It's a little bit ironic coming from you that Skywater's personal 9/10 rating is being dismissed. Weren't you upset at certain people for supposedly shouting out your concerns with Frontier's games?

Lol.

You are right. That's why I put him on my ignore list. Seeing you replied to a post of him quoting the thing he said to me, I see he is still going on.........
He can say whatever he wants, I accept it instantly because I won't read it anymore. Make's life a lot easier.

I bought JWE in the end, just because I wanted to enjoy the game. It's not a 9/10 to me. More a 7 or 8 out of 10.

The game has his ups and downs, but nothing that can bother me to much.
It's overpriced, I agree on that, It's more a 30€ game than €50..

Other than that I had a funtime last night playing it for 2 hours, can't wait to get home and play some more.

In the end, I am the one that enjoys the game and that is all that counts to me.
