Hi Klötenkieker and thanks for your question.
Plazas present an interesting problem for our flow simulation. Getting from A to B on a plaza is the same as going from A to B anywhere else on the path and that is already possible now and you can already make small plazas with a little trickery.
The technical challenge in a sandbox game like Planet Coaster is memory usage and how long the computation will take. The amount of computation of the flow fields grows with the surface area of the paths that the wave needs to propagate through. With a plaza we are dealing with very large surface areas (easily more than all the rest of all the path in your park put together).

We are as passionate about large plazas as our community and would love to see them into the game.
However it is something that we are still investigating and we can't promise anything right now.

Wow, thank you very very much for this answer!!! :-D [yesnod] Keep on with your great work!!!! [yesnod][yesnod][yesnod]

Awww unfortunately not! I studied animation at Newport University in Wales (many moons ago), Jonny studied at Leeds (and then took iAnimate) and Oscar animated at the Cambridge School of Art (he's that posh).

We never stop studying though, we're forever watching animated films, playing games, dissecting them and absorbing the knowledge back into the Frontier Animation Hive Mind.

LMAO! Hive mind. We are Frontier, resisting the Beef is futile!

Hey, thanks very much!

Absolutely we will have more mascots for you in the future and we are having a blast bringing them to life! Gulpee will be appearing in the next alpha and he's looking great. We can't wait for you to see what we have in store, it's going to be udderly cosmic!

Great thanks! :)

Will there be more bands added in the future and maybe a speaker which you can place in your park playing music or the PC theme? And the guests could dance to that like what we saw last night! :)

The more dancing the better! There's definitely going to be more band-like things around the place, I want to see our dance moves (based on our real life Animation Boogaloo) as often as possible.

Thank you very very much for this answer, Owen [yesnod] You're great and open to your community - best community response ever! Thank you guys for this great game, keep on with your great work!!! [yesnod][yesnod][yesnod]

Hey, good question.

We want Planet Coaster to represent as many people as possible with what's technically possible, we do have same sex couples in the game already and you'll see them holding hands and walking around your park in the upcoming alpha. For a sneak peak take a look back at our meet the security guard video we released, if you have a keen eye you'll spot a male couple walk by holding hands at one point.

This is amazing! [heart]

Thanks for your time this evening!

Q) Are you able to talk about collision detection at all? It's great the game does not prohibit creativity and allows users to have prop and scenery objects overlap onto paths, but the unfortunate result of this is that it can lead to guests clipping through the objects. Will they eventually have collision detection to avoid scenic obstructions like that, just as guests are able to avoid and walk around other guests in the park, or might this demand too much computational power that is best freed for other core aspects of the game animations?

Hi Planet Coaster & users!

I created my account just to send questions :)
Huge fan of the game already. Playing it and listening to the music theme has the same effect on me that going to Disneyland Paris does (which is huge ah ah). Thanks for the amazing work you're doing and how you keep in touch with the community.

My question is: You already introduced a few animations to increase the immersion and make it more like a living thing. You showed yesterday for example how peeps react to music animations and how they also move as couples and so on. My question is, how far will you go into those details ? I truly think that those non-gameplay related animations are wonderful. Will peeps chat together, look for their mates, stop to check a map, look at their other family members while they scream in coasters, stop because they are exhausted and so on...?

Thanks again and continue with the wonderful work you're doing. Can't wait for tonight's stream and for Alpha 2.

Another quick question: We saw that peeps are distance conscious (pirate band example), but they don't seem to be direction conscious at the moment. Will peeps look at the scenery, point them or wave at mascots and so on ?

Thanks !

Hello!

Thanks for making an account to join us, that's awesome! I'm really glad you're enjoying the game so far, it's been amazing seeing the community's reactions and creations!

As you've noticed already we've got guests reacting to things by pointing, cheering and dancing, but we're certainly not stopping there! I won't go into specifics right now, but we're constantly adding more animations to help the crowd feel influenced by what's around them. We're really happy with how things are going so far and it's getting better by the day!

I totally agree with you about these little extra animations! Sure, they might not be vital for pure gameplay purposes, but they just bring so much more atmosphere and character to the game. And yes, they'll be chatting, looking around and interacting with each other. As the simulation evolves it'll allow the guests to react in more complex and realistic ways, so further down the line guests will stop and react to things the way you'd expect [happy]

Will the single VIP pass guests get any special animation that only they do? So you can half pick them out of a sea of people?

Thanks! From an Animation Uni Student in Australia <3

That's a great idea but it's not something we've got planned yet! Hmmm... sea of people...
Good luck with your animation studies! You'll have to send us some of your stuff to look at one day :D

I have made perfectly satisfactory Plazas by simply making a grid out of the widest paths. The guests wander around over the plaza perfectly naturally as they would in a real plaza so I don't think you need to add special plazas. All you have to do really is have a style of path edging that doesn't make those little raised lumps in the intersections, then you would never tell the plaza was made out of mashed-together paths.

Yeah! You'll be seeing more musical additions in future that you'll be able to place down, and of course the guests will have a good ol' dance (if they're in a dancing mood). I like the idea of being able to place speakers too!
