General / Off-Topic 3D Printed models

Love the work you are doing on the coaster. Question, after it is finished is there a way to make it a working model?

That is insane!

The level of detail in that is astonishing.

What method of 3d printing do you use? Resin or extruded plastic?

Now to find a way to use blueprints to build the 3d print model... You could then build a coaster in PC and then print it out... That would take things to a whole new level!

Thanks all :D

This was printed using our SLS printer (selective laser sintering)
So neiter resin or extruded :)

Both the 3D model and printed version are excellent pieces of art. I love to see the nostalgic models from RCT 1 and 2 as well! This topic made me consider buying such a 3D printer, untill I saw the cost of such a printer [tongue] . I wonder, when you've made a 3D model, are there additional steps to take to make it 3D-print ready or can you just print any 3D model?

Yeah, but after you have one 3D printer, you can print many other 3D printers, and resell them !

UNLIMITED PROFIT !!! [big grin][big grin][big grin]

[squeeeeee] Now that would be cool!!!

I've seen some really nice 3D creations in this thread. [up]

I thought it was the SLS type, don't know why I didn't suggest that one when I asked.. With the colors on the RCT1 models and the finish on them it looked like a video I watched using that process. They printed out an entire Minecraft village with it.

Looks awesome, cant wait until its finished!

Hmm every model can be 3D printed, in theory.
But you actually have 2 different kinds of 3D models, visual models and 3D printable models.

For games you'll use a smooth modifier on a low polygon 3D model (so a circle would only have like 6 sides, but with a modifier the computer makes it looks like it's a smooth round shape)
Whereas a 3D printed would just print it with 6 sides and thus it doesn't look good, for 3D printing you'd scale it up to 128 sides for examples so the circle will be printed round.
The more polygons the better :)

I can go into more depth about volume vs plane usage in games to save on polygons but that be a long story :)

These 2 rides are also 3D printed and hand painted by the designer! (not me)

in the background you also see the rollercoaster cars which are broken (a colleague thought he could play with the rollercoaster, broke a car and walked away.. we still don't know who broke it :( )

Very accurate and high detailing printing! Paining is also just great. How long the whole printing and painting process took?

Just found this 3d printed mech that made wow for couple of minutes.

Isn't it great? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

The smaller things take about 4 days of printing, unless something breaks, and the painting about 3 - 4 days (without) decals for smaller models.
The scale is very tiny und sometimes paint has to dry a bit and your hand has to be really calm. (one hair brush)
Which is a problem sometimes. Glad it is liked, though the ticketbox of the ship is toppeled over. :) Thank you.

Wow, that is an amazing diorama, Periocus! I can watch those for a very long time to spot all of the tiny little details! (I love details) [big grin]
