New update?

Hey there!

I've recently returned from Florida and got straight back in to planet coaster with new ideas to build my parks, but a lot of items/rides still seem to be missing..

I was wondering, are updates still a thing? Or have we seen the last? If we have seen the last, would now be the time to let us start modding? Some of the items that certain people made in RCT3 made the game imo. That reverse switch track was awesome!

Still love the game regardless, just wondering?

That's currently the big question here. It's really frustrating that Frontier doesn't communicate with us. Other things like JWE seem to be more important for Frontier. [sad]

Patience is a virtue!, PlanCo is an awesome game, i'm sure we will see much more in the near future and for years to come.
Hey, we don't even have cable cars or dinosaur animatronics yet!
I believe this Cosmic cash cow has a lot more milk to give, before she runs dry. [yesnod]

Frontier and many of us are British after all so waiting or queuing up for the next big thing is no problem [happy]

I appreciate that JWE is not far off release and all that,.........but just a few words of reassurance from the Devs regards PC would go a long way.

Yes it’s like crickets chirping right now. Last year we got a summer update in late June. This year? Who knows. I would love to see some more classic rides in the game like round up, rotor, whip, gravitron and more. Out of four games, RCT3, RCTW, Parkitect and Planet Coaster, PC is the only one without a Gravitron, a flying saucer ride that spins and riders are stuck to the wall by centrifugal force. The prototype debuted at Morey’s Pier in North Wildwood in 1983. It is like the modern version of the rotor.

QA guy had some confusion about an internal build where a bug is fixed so he couldn't see it so it sounds like the next update is definitely in the pipeline.

In a ittle more than a week Frontier release JWE and I think the next two or three weeks we didn't see or hear anything about Planco. To my knowledge they have also announced that they will play JWE in OUR weekly livestrams. With our I mean us, the PlanCo Community. Any source will be focused on that new game.

I don't know if that's true. I hope not. TBH I am trying not to be a little bitter about JWE and I'm not doing a very good job of that. If I want to play a pure management game I have Cities Skyline & Oxygen Not Included. I have never really liked Jurassic Park much beyond an appreciation of the practical effects. I'll keep my complaints to myself after this, but... yeah. [ugh]

Frontier always had a policy of not telling things untill its 101% confirmed it WILL happen. And i agree with most of you that it would be very nice if they opened up a bit more regarding future updates.

Personaly i think they did listen to that for a bit ... They still don't tell flat out what is in the works but reading (or listening) carefully tells you a lot. During recent livestreams they confirmed quite a few times there are still people working on Planet Coaster. Ofcourse that doesn't confirm a new DLC, but if a game is abandoned, why would there still be people working on them?

And secondly, take a look at the newsletter 3 weeks ago which said :

While our developers are busy working on some exciting Planet Coaster goodness, we'll be shining a big spotlight on some of our wonderful content creators from across the internet!

So we know 2 things :

1. Frontier is still working on the game. (confirmed in livestreams)
2. "exciting Planet Coaster goodness" is being worked on. (confirmed in newsletter)

Guess we can't say Frontier didn't drop any hint or clue regarding whats going on behind the scenes [wink]

Regarding the livestreams; Frontier will probably start streaming JWE during their weekly livestreams, most likely on the afternoon Twitch livestreams. Frontier might also start streaming the game in the evenings, but that hasn’t been announced yet.

Can you point me to the source of this info?

You might be talking about the Twitch livestreams, not about the Wednesday livestream on YouTube.

When I read in the newsletter that the developers are still working on some new stuff for Planet Coaster that really made me really excited. I feel Frontier has some great stuff coming our way for Planet Coaster.

But, that is not even Frontier's policy. They announced the Studios Pack DLC just 1 week before it was released. By then they already had determined the DLC, engineered it, designed it, tested it, tweaked it, and polished it for release. They surely knew at some point, weeks to months before the announcement, that they were 101% going to release a Studios Pack since that is what they were focusing their time on. I don't think a week before they want to release it, they are suddenly going to scrap their plans and waste that development time and money. There is no reason they could not have released this basic info, not necessarily details, many weeks prior. Sure some content might not make the final release, but these are the details that don't need to be disclosed and can remain a "surprise" for the release.

So it would be nice if Frontier could just provide some very basic information in regards to what they are working on. This would do two important things among others. First, it would provide a spark in the community and keep the positive energy, and second, it would give the community the ability to provide targeted ideas and suggestions which gives the impression that the community is helping to shape the future of the game. I just don't get why Frontier would purposefully alienate the community and basically say that they don't want or need the communities involvement in regards to future updates. Frontier says they read the boards, but how can we provide any meaningful ideas and suggestions to help improve the game when we have no idea what they are working on?

Ofcourse, i can't argue with this, and i fully agree here. I would love a more open communication as well.

But learning from the past i guess this is something that will never happen. For whatever reason Frontier has their reasons to handle it the way they do. They are VERY cautious of saying stuff they can't deliver.

The point i was trying to make in my previous post was more to make people realise we didn't have no information -at all- regarding the future. Ofcourse we don't have any idea of WHAT is coming, but they kind of confirmed (or at least hinted) that -something- is coming :)

Definatly same here!! i think i reopened my email several times to re-assure myself I really was reading it correct :D

Well in the alphas we at least had #spoilersam[wink].Now we don't seem to get any information at all until one week before a dlc or update.[sour]

How many times have they released an update and then a few days later they've released an additional update with a couple fixes and tweaks that were needed? Or when something they said was coming wasn't ready at the last minute so they had to pull it?

Both have happened before, so I think that shows that work on updates continues right up until the very last minute. We also simply have no idea if they have delayed entire updates for similar reasons when they caught problems, for days or even weeks if they needed to. They may well know at Frontier that they ARE going to release something, but the final date remains in question until quite late in the process. If they say there's an update coming, you know darn well there will be an avalanche of questions as to WHEN???, and a bunch of people unhappy that no date is given, just as there would be an even greater problem if they stated a date and then the update was delayed.

Yes, I agree that it would be wonderful to hear an outline in general terms of Frontier's future plans for the game, but it's also possible that those future plans might change, or they may include plans that some people may not like and perhaps cause them to hold off on making purchases now...if you knew that a PC2 was planned for the end of the year would you be so quick to shell out money for more PC dlc that might not work in it? Would a person new to the game and interested in buying PC hold off even purchasing it if they knew a new, improved one was on the way? What about if Frontier's plans go in another direction and they just plan to end creating dlc at some set point down the line? Would that not also affect sales now? What if they don't plan on adding water rides, or tweaking park management? Those things may well change some people's minds on continuing to support the game, would they not? There's a lot of people who agree that there's still things in the game that need to be fixed or adjusted, but there's not a lot of people really vocal on that issue, so it doesn't affect sales because most people aren't bothered to the same degree. That's just a fact. Why would Frontier go out of their way to announce long-range plans that might bring on a more vocal segment, with more complaints, which may well affect sales, not only of PC, but of any future updates for it or anything else this franchise might include in the future?

Frontier is a successful business, they aren't ignoring us just because they don't care. They may not say some things because they do care, about the franchise, it's sales and the community that supports both, which is exactly what a company is supposed to care about. We shouldn't look at things just from one point of view on this...
