The Dev Dairy detective!

- What is it (alpha, beta, early access)?

- How long can we play it?

So they need to stop using the words alpha and beta ;)

Call it Early Access and say like "Planet Coaster is now in beta phase. Update your game."

This is a fun thread! I like it.

I will throw a word of caution out there, when we make our dev diaries you are seeing the state of the build at that moment in time. We are months away from release so much of the game is incomplete. Some parts of the game will look more complete than others asset wise. Conversely global systems like lighting and rendering solutions are constantly changing so day to day the finish of the game can look very different. For example, if you compare how a sunset looked from a few weeks ago to today, it's incredible how much a little change can affect the presentation of the game. All of the GUI, both on the HUD and in-world is work-in-progress. There's tonnes of what we call "debug GUI" all over the show. I love seeing the speculation here on the forums and I think that's half the fun of doing these dev diaries.

Soon you'll all be playing the Early Bird and there will be even more to talk about. We'll be saying more about our plans for the Early Bird in the coming weeks. Don't worry, we are listening! [up] We just can't always reveal everything. [mouth shut]

Keep up the detective work, I think it's awesome you guys care about this game as much as we do!

Thanks for making this sure. This threat is not for the design and GUI aspect for the game. It's more a sort of threat for features. Nothing is secret in a Dev Dairy [squeeeeee]

Latest dev diary looks great! There was only one issue I spotted and it was the train type used on Arrow corkscrew coaster:

That train shouldn't be allowed on that track due to the wheel bogie assembly. It needs the classic Arrow cork trains with the wheels on the inside. I am assuming at this stage you can simply drop any train on any track but when the game is released I would hope that only compatible trains will be allowed on certain track styles.

Apart from that great stuff keep it up. I can't wait to see B&M track!

Thank you message ! we are all here for our opinions given for the games !

Been around this business for more years than I care to admit, if I had to 'guess', the reason they are using words like alpha, beta, along with early bird etc, is that they are likely already in "family and friends alpha" , now whether they call the early bird adopters alpha testers or closed beta testers, thats just semantics.
As for UGC, I'm surmising that this will be used and created in game, and that will allow players to visit other parks and simply highlight rides/buildings etc and save them for use in their own parks. Again Im just guessing but it would make business sense for them to control what construction content is in game, as they may well be looking to sell DLC content throughout the games life cycle. It makes sense in so much as they can control artistic design and integrity this way, save themselves a ton of headaches with steamwork integration and so on. Again this is just my guesswork, but I know thats how I would approach this. If you simply open up UGC to third party programs, you basically just cut a huge revenue source for yourself as well as creating all sorts of technical and legal problems.

I love the fact that we can use every single train that we want on a track. And we already saw the B&M track.

This is an awesome thread, I didn't bother looking too much into the video b/c I knew the rest of the community would do it for me lol. I love the attention Frontier is giving to the community and the hard work they're putting into this game.

I agree we should be able to use any train we want but only within reason. The trains used in that image shouldn't be allowed on that track because the wheel geometry intersects with the track cross ties.

The coaster builder UI is incomplete and allows us to do things we shouldn't be able to. It currently allows us to put any car on any track, including any number of cars up to a maximum. Don't worry just an innocent oversight during video capturing. The range and realism of the tracks planned is second to none.

The other comment I keep seeing is the coaster looks to be running really fast. That's just overzealous track building. We've all been there! :)

Keep up the good work and thanks again for all your kind words. The team do read the forum and it's a constant source of motivation for everyone.
