PvP simple question about ed pvpers.

Back in the days before Engineers I used to run an eagle build with a grade A life support and burst lasers.

The life support and fuel scoop would.turn off to give you that 'TIE Fighter pilot' feel.

Good times...

And there I wanted to reply some whitty comment about PvPers minmaxing their build to disable power for life support ...

Ninjas these days ... (and why is there no ninja emoji???)

why so many pvpers are not satisfied with fighting each other and need easy targets?

I have a very similar questions - how are many PvPers satisfied with instantly destroying "easy" targets? Last night I was ganked by a wing of three FDLs outside JM. I stuck my nose out into supercruise on purpose, knowing they were there (to their credit, at least they made it clear to everyone they were KOS gankers). Here's what went down:

I was in my Vulture, and I was interdicted by one of the FDLs. I decided to stay and fight, not expecting to win, but at least hoping for a little fun PvP. I actually held my own against the one FDL, and I was looking forward to trying some different tactics when his two buddies showed up. At that point it's just game over. One Vulture against three highly engineered FDLs (I got hit with almost every special effect there is to be had) - that's not a battle, that's not even PvP in my opinion. That's just a bunch of guys shooting tin cans in their back yard. So impressive... When I met the rebuy screen, I wasn't mad because my Vulture was blown up, I was mad because it was such a cheap, unsatisfying experience.

But surely it was dissatisfying for KOS team as well. Jameson was not overly busy on PS4 last night, so after instantly and effortlessly killing me, they got to sit in supercruise for however long, just twiddling their thumbs. What they should have done is let the FDL that interdicted me continue to fight me one-on-one. He still would likely have won, and they would have had a show to watch. If by some miracle he was in danger of losing or the ATR showed up, then I could see them stepping in.

I personally would be bored out of my mind playing the way this ganking wing plays. They seem like the type that are in it specifically for the salt / angst, not for any meaningful PvP. I'm not against wings, but if you're going to do that, make it at least a little challenging. Fly a wing of Vipers instead of FDLs. If you are truly good, you'll still win even against a big ship like a Cutter, and the battle will be more fun for everyone.

I'm not one to attack other players so I'm not a ganker apologist.
However, I think there are a couple of things to consider in the scenario you just presented.

1: They announced they were out there and that they were operating under the banner of KOS. You acknowledge this, which is good.

2: They don't know when they interdict you if you have friends on the way or not - it is risky to keep a player alive and toy with them when 5 gals could show up at any moment and turn the tables. That is a pretty reasonable fear giving they announced their presence. Bear in mind, you are asking them to take on additional risk by offering an extended 1v1. They don't know if you're just bait.

3: The mind reading has to stop. I know it isn't intentional but whether they were bored, dissatisfied, mentally ill, whatever - it simply isn't for us to even guess at.

It is possible that the conversation on their end was something like:

Ganker 1: "I've a scout I just pulled."
Ganker 2: "He's a scout?"
Ganker 1: "He's in stock ship - kind of playing it up like he's new."
Ganker 2: "Oh God, more on the way then."
Ganker 3: "Coming in hot, finish him off quick before his buddies get here."

boom

Ganker 2: "Excellent - get your shields back up 1, they'll be here soon."
Ganker 1: "Alright"

1/2 hr. later

Ganker 3: "I don't think they're coming."
Ganker 1: "Why would they send a scout then?"
Ganker 2: "I dunno. Maybe they set him up?"

So while I agree with your points in spirit I really do think the mind reading stuff has to stop.
Sure, they might of been just laughing, spilling beer, slapping each other on the back at an ED themed bachelor party.
We cannot know that.

Oh please. If you're offended by "They (unnamed) seem like the type that are in it specifically for the salt / angst, not for any meaningful PvP," then perhaps "Open" forum isn't the place for you. It's called "Dangerous Discussions" after all, not "Carebear Discussions" ;)

Seriously, it's not like I'm going around saying, "Wargfoot is a bully in real life who should be on a watch list because he's a threat to society." That is something to get upset about, not my very generic (and quite possibly true) musings.

The Replicated Man

T
For me it's the stereotypical meta build of a Cutter or Corvette with G5 engineering, PP modules, Guardian enhancements, most expensive armors, etc, completely covered in shield boosters and filled with SCBs.. I have zero interested in fighting one of these, nor do I want to build and fly one..

I do sometimes trick these ships, getting them to fire on me within range of a station or things like that (this is how I almost destroyed a Corvette in my modestly engineered Courier).

Now if I'm battling tough NPCs, then I'll fly my BattleConda or not-even-close-to-godhood Cutter, because NPCs cheat and I just want to melt them away like butter. However, I rarely take these lovely ships into PvP hotspots. I can lose in my Viper III all day long; in fact my rebuy is probably less than the repair bill for scratched paint on a Cutter, LOL.

I can safely say that the majority of Elite's PvP community do not fly ships that meet that criteria on a regular basis. Some do because they can't fly medium ships. Small ships are fun, but when fighting against a skilled opponent, the power plant on a Viper, Cobra or Eagle will go critical due to railgun fire before you can do any decent damage to a medium ship. Since 3.0 the amount of DPS that a ship can deal out is crazy. Something FDEV had to do because there were a few groups who A: Used some sort of Exploit to acquire god tier weapon rolls, or B: Grind for hundreds of hours re-rolling everything. Hoping you will hit the Braben Lotto. Some did but most will never see that time invested return anything.

That's why IMO FDEV's new engineering system is a blessing and a curse, Great for ease of access and time invested. You know you are getting something out of it time wise. On the other hand it buffs EVERYTHING. You now have some cutters flying around with 10,000mj of shields which is stupid.

I feel FDEV need to go over it once more and perhaps balance a few more things. I'd like to see speed increased for smaller ships. Why fly a viper 3 (Which used to be one of the fastest in game) when you can hop in a FDL or Mamba that flies just as if not faster (Combat Fit)? I'd also like to see shields looked at again for medium and large ships. Perhaps Nerf the cutter's optimal multiplier a bit and increase a few of the medium ships to compete with the FDL. And please for the love of Braben take a look at the Alliance Trio's Drives! The drives are super weak on them especially the challenger.

Yes you are. 🤥
You caught me.
Gosh, am I all kinds of embarrassed.

Projecting an emotion or a particular mental state onto others seems to be a thing with you.

First, let me assure you that your capacity to offend me flat out doesn't exist.
Second, I agree with your assessment that 'seal clubbing' is silly.
Third, my only objection to your post is when you drift over into mind-reading.

Seriously, it's not like I'm going around saying, "Wargfoot is a bully in real life who should be on a watch list because he's a threat to society." That is something to get upset about, not my very generic (and quite possibly true) musings.
I wish I had the skill to be cast as a bully, as it now stands, I'm little more than 'fodder'.
That aside, my only objection is to your 'quite possibly true' musings which are also equally 'quite possibly false'.

IMHO, it is valid to say, "Hey Frontier, the seal clubbing PvP isn't much fun. What can we do to minimize that?"

IMHO, it is not valid to say, "So this incarcerated sexual deviant, high on PCP, logged into the game using a hacked phone he pulled out of his [redacted], and is now playing the game for the sheer joy of making other people cry - no, not just cry, he wants them to commit suicide!"

Let's keep the conversation focused on actual facts and not wild FA-Off flights of fancy.

PvP is stupid because dying is optional. You win the fight but you don't get the kill.

Ships is ED are just stupidly tough, and even when you lose the fight you can always leave before getting killed. In CQC we don't have this.. if you lose the fight there you die, the victor gets the kill.

Maybe that's why people go for easy targets in the main game, they want to see ships exploding when they win.

I think shields/hull in the game should be reduced by at least by 2/3 to bring a bit more fun and challenge.. and no doubt more death.

Umm, you were the one who took a single sentence out of my many paragraphs of text and went on the FA-off flight of faux indignation...
Second, I agree with your assessment that 'seal clubbing' is silly.
Back on topic, that really wasn't my assessment in the post you recently replied to. I'm not a seal. As someone else cleverly stated, it's kinda hard to call what happens at ShinDez "seal clubbing". We're all Elite in something, after all. My point, which I thought was clear, is that I got absolutely zero enjoyment from that PvP engagement, and I feel the wing of gankers actually cheated themselves out of some enjoyable PvP by finishing quick. Where I come from, having a reputation of "finishing quick" without any foreplay is not something one boasts about ;)

And like any other "blind date" gone bad, I'll just be avoiding this particular group of gankers in the future. They caught me because I let them catch me, thinking perhaps we'd have a fun romp. Their "slam, bam, thank you, ma'am" approach to PvP was just boring and dull, and I'm now one less partner in their already small pool of potential "dates".

I only asked that the mind-reading stop.
Otherwise we were in agreement.

Pretending to care about their level of enjoyment is not something anyone here is going to buy.
You got ganked and then come in here an pretend your real concern is "The other guys probably didn't have fun."

Right.

Anyways, we need an ignore list which I will exclusively reserve for people who make analogies to PvP using sexual terminology.
While it is true you cannot offend me you did manage to trigger my gag reflex.

When you PvP for a while, you quickly learn your opponents by name. You know what ships their fly, what weapons they use, what manouvers they do and what synergies they have with you in a wing fight. It gets boring to fight always the same people. So looking for new targets is a common thing to do when you want some fresh wind. However, there is no PvP feature that gives us a place to go and people to challenge for a reward. Instead, PvP is spread throughout the whole galaxy and we take whatever we find. Because PvP is not really supported in ED we have to find our very own ways of doing PvP. The results are very variable as we can see.

To put it into simple words: Because we can and there is nothing else PvP related to do.
I see. Is CQC/Arena mode broke then?

....

Now who's mind-reading.... Hypocrite 💩

Duck, having read the exchange between you and Warg I think the onus is on you to make your gameplay fun and enjoyable. Gankers gonna gank - how do you want to engage with that? If you just plain don't want to, that's fine of course. However, I think there are ways to find the kind of PvP experience you're looking for.

Not comparing.. just stating the fact. you like it or not.

You completely missed the point.

I was saying weaker ships would make a better gameplay.

I totally agree. That's why this particular wing of gankers is on my "avoid, don't engage" list. I actually enjoy sneaking through a blockade almost as much as I do "meaningful" PvP.

Yes there is. Time to fire up Overwatch :D
