PvP The Deadliest Ganker Tactic - The "Double Yo-Yo"

Alternatively, he buys a really cheap crappy controller and suddenly becomes the best pilot in the game, like that one movie about the old sneakers.

That's a theme in a sizable chunk of kung fu movies too!

My neighbor used to be a professional cyclist and was even on a Wheaties box.
He often dons a giant straw beach hat and takes out a bright red beach cruiser on weekends.
Many Lycra clad egos get crushed.

In a similar vein I suspect OP's problems had little to do with the controller, or the turret for that matter.

Just make sure to apologize when he buys an expensive controller and still gets blown to smithereens.

He's a grown up and can spend his money as he pleases. If it doesn't work out I'll be disappointed, obviously, but it's not on me.

Besides, did you read the part where he got a HOTAS and doesn't currently use it? Let's not go assuming things about folks' disposable income and what they choose to do with it.

If you're the one that misled him, and you did, and his purchase was based on the false impressions you gave him, then you bear some responsibility whether you acknowledge it or not.

That holds true whether he has disposable income or not.

I missed the OPs age.
Is he an adult?

Based on his posting I presume he is. He's very meticulous in his research and thinking (yes, I say this in light of the contention in this thread). Regarding my advice, it worked for me and I offered it in good faith. You disagree with it and that's fine. I believe he'll think things through and make the best decision he can.

If it doesn't work out and he's upset and approaches me about it I'll obviously be sorry and then offer to help resolve it. Why wouldn't it?

Now consider this: getting good is a process, yeah? All of us are always getting better all the time. Such is the joy of Elite PvP. If he's not satisfied with his current control scheme and tries another one that I believe will be more comfortable and enjoyable for him and still gets his butt tanned? Well, he doesn't have any other excuses now, does he?

Heck, think about my own use of a controller on PC. I'd like to get into learning mouse and keyboard at some point but I've made the conscious decision to hold off because I've got other things I'd rather be doing right now. I accept the limitations that puts on me and try to adapt the best I can. Point is I'm having a blast in the game and know that the challenges will never cease.

Hopefully the OP finds that too. We'll see! :)
