Quad Elite - It's still possible

Finally done it, finished off the CQC rank yesterday and got the quad Elite!

When I first started playing ED, I was never going to bother with CQC. Like a lot of people, I ignored it as it wasn't part of the main game and believed those who said it was "dead". It really isn't. Not on PC anyway. It went from "just try it for a few games to get rid of this Helpless rank", to "just get to prestige 1 for the permit then quit", to "Ok, let's just get to Hero rank then stop there", to "sod it, I've come this far, let's go for Elite!" Makes a nice change of pace if you fancy some consequence-free pew-pew while mining opals, exploring or doing laps of Dav's Hope.

well played Mate! Hope it doesn't mean youll stop, had a good laugh on cqc recently, managed to get to semi pro earlier. Determined to get elite, it really is a scream. Even when I am as bad as I am! Whats your fave loadout?

Unfortunately with the recent forum changes, the quintuple Elite is now impossible

Still possible (see my avatar), but unlikely for me at least. I got triple Elite in January 2016 and earned my Acornsoft badge in 1984 but my CQC rank is still 0% harmless and is likely to remain so. Not my kind of game.

Right on Commander to the OP too btw ;)

Question when was the optimal time to play CQC? So you can play with out waiting.

All other Elite ranks have become magnitudes easier to obtain, unfortunately CQC didn't get that treatment. It seems to be completely out of any development roadmap. Even small changes would improve it immensely, like giving better rewards/materials. What does it currently pay, 100-1000 credits? lol

And I'm not even talking about bigger additions like a lobby or bots. Or God forbid integrate it into the main game. Apparently with the next update we'll be able to do tutorial missions from within our cockpit, but CQC still gets the cold shoulder.

I've never been sure there's any point in CQC for someone like me, a clumsy oaf playing with trackpad and keys. I'd give it a go, if I thought there was any likelihood of not being repeatedly shot down by people who aren't clumsy oafs playing with trackpad and keys. Oh well. I'm happy exploring on my own anyway.

Oh, and congratulations OP(y)

I have CQC Elite rank and fly keyboard-only. It's just a matter of practice.

I'm still of the opinion that CQC should be F2P, used as a "gateway drug" to sell the bigger game of ED. At least on consoles, I really do think it would be successful. And if Frontier sold CQC cosmetics and "dances" (preprogrammed 'showing off' maneuvers), it might become the Fortnite of space sims! It's not like they have anything to lose going this route.

I have CQC Elite rank and fly keyboard-only. It's just a matter of practice. There are very few players who are good enough to get enough advantage out of more specialised controls, and the flight model is slightly more forgiving of it than the main game.

So long as you put your pips controls in easy reach and remember to use them, you'll be ahead of 90% of players from day 1 anyway. You'll still get shot down a lot, but everyone gets shot down a lot, even the best.

On PC, 1900-0300 UTC is probably the busiest time (broader at weekends), and you should usually get a Deathmatch space with minimal waiting. Team deathmatch or CTF are still better to specifically organise, though you might find TDMs anyway at similar times.

The unofficial CQC discord at https://discord.me/elitedangerouscqc can be used to both get an idea when people are playing and organise/join matches, on all three platforms.

This was true right from the start, though. The first triple Elite rank was achieved in about 1 month from release ... it is technically possible to get CQC Elite in 1 month, but the sleep deprivation would probably get you first. Even a skilled regular player would normally take at least six months.

Pay increases with your CQC rank, so you get about 8000 credits for a deathmatch win when at maximum rank. (Or somewhere in the 15-20 million credit range total by the time you're Elite). Higher payouts would probably help but ultimately it's a light-hearted shoot-em-up using Elite's flight model and game engine, so you either find it fun and do it for that reason, or you don't find it fun and the credits aren't relevant.

(I am likewise disappointed that we seem to be getting "tutorial from main game" but not "queue for CQC from main game" next week - but there's still time for a surprise there, of course)

I take my REMLOCK off to anyone who achieves this !

I really hope FD introduces a decal for the quintuple ..... you'd think they would if they want to encourage CQC, wouldn't you?

3674 matches, total CQC time 3 weeks, 2 days, 4 hours. Actual time about 9 months.

Damn, that's a lot. Why oh why did you make me look that up ;)

Haha! Sorry bud, but thanks for getting back to me. I guess the amount of time/matches will vary with how good of a pilot you are too (kills/wins) too, so for someone like me its probably going to be much longer lol.

Gotta say it's a lot higher than what I was guessing though. That 'seems' like you need more kills than getting Combat Elite (or even more time spent than the Triple Elite combined perhaps).

Cheers, AD
