Quick trial run of trading in this game (so far the only trading I've done has been the minimum requirements for the engineers, and selling mined minerals) and my notes are as follows:
Separation of buy/sell is actually nice because at a quick glance, it's easier to find the relevant info, compared to the previous big spreadsheet -- am I buying? If yes, then go to the buy tab -> price, supply, avg. Gotcha.
Oh look there's a mission marker if a commodity is a mission requirement,
and it displays the correct amount in the modal dialog where I actually make the purchase for the exact amount? Well this is easier than expected.
On PS4, increasing/decreasing the amount doesn't seem
that slow. I ran it back and forth 0 and 512 several times, common sense says it should be quicker, but
definitely not the grindiest part of Elite, so meh. But of course it's just good UX to speed it up when the user makes a long press on the + or -.
EDDB FTW. Can't even be bothered to look if there's some built-in feature for finding commodities. Maybe in the Galaxy map, I don't know. But using the web app on my laptop is so much easier than struggling with the galaxy map using a Dualshock controller.
Why am I repeatedly getting denied landing at this outpost? Do I need to bump some poor NPC off the corner of the pad or something? Oh yeah -- it must be because I'm flying a house. Ok I'll find this stuff elsewhere then.
A couple of unnecessary jumps later, a bit over half of my cargo space occupied with all the mission required commodities, time to head back to where ever I accepted these missions at.
Didn't even have to use the commodity market, just dumped it all at the mission giver's lap. Got a few credits and some mats. Yay.
Didn't get fragged, didn't get dragged. Did not get ganked in any way. Didn't even get interdicted once by NPCs although there were some messages indicating attempts of such, but they couldn't catch me.
Conclusion: The trading UX is pretty aligned with the rest of the game, in both good and bad.
Note to self: I never want to trade again. I just had to buy a fresh Imperial Eagle at the station after finishing up with the trading missions, just because I had to wash off the T9 "flight" experience. I find trading incredibly boring, YMMV, I salute anyone with the patience to engage in it.
So I guess this is what I was supposed to be doing tonight...
All done & en route back home. This is how to fly a T-9 in open.
