The Replicated Man

T
I haven't lost a ship since 2015, and most of the 5 losses in total I've had were my own fault for not properly addressing the situation. The only loss that I've had in the game that was environment related outside of combat was somehow getting my ship wedged inside a station the wrong way when after I had had several and the station sorted it out.

Anyway, if you play it accordingly, I'd say the game is pretty easy in terms of survivability.
Sounds like you havent seen the new revamped rebuy screen. You totally have to let me send you there dude! :p

To be honest I think both sides are as bad as each other in some ways. You have the gankers who try to make out they are the white knights saving us from ourselves, doing everybody a favour to become better players by ganking them. Then you have the explorers who act as if though nobody should touch them because of some hard luck story of having only an hour per week to play video games. FDev gave given us players the tools to be pirates or to run, both have an equal chance. The ED galaxy is so vast that the chances of actually meeting a ganker is slim, especially if you know where the ganker hotspots are. Usually I play in Open, but if I go somewhere that is a known ganker hotspot, such as Shinrarta, I drop into Solo or PG (unless I am feeling particularly brave, which isn’t that often :ROFLMAO: )

I don’t think people’s behaviour in such games reflects their real life personas, despite what people seem to assume, else what about all those that play GTA? Do they go round stealing cars, shooting at police and running over bystanders? No. These games allow us to escape real life and live a harmless (in the grand scheme of things) online persona.

I would agree if this wasn't an issue in a PG which is a really the only point I agree with. In open, whatever. In PGs? You agree to the rules of the private group, otherwise why would they exist?

That whole gankers claiming they are doing a good thing is a bunch of nonsense, with the exception of when we do things like post build suggestions or flyings guides or whatever. But those latter activities are totally separate from the actual ganking. I gank because it's fun and because it fits my roleplay. This is a game, I play games for fun, and this is what I find fun in this game.

There's nothing altruistic about it and gankers who claim otherwise are probably just digging for salt.

On the 2nd half after the [...], I agree 100% and wish more people on this forum had that sane perspective.

Oh, I absolutely agree with you there. I do believe that players who enter a PG should respect the rules of that PG.

I actually had somewhat mixed feelings about this earlier on, since the rules set there were unofficial in gameplay terms, but Frontier have since decided to, in effect, officially support them to some extents. Not how I got my jollies playing the game either way though. It's too meta for my tastes and I generally only trouble with those who trouble with me in the game. Cheers.

Oh man, there's a new rebuy screen? I was just thinking "I've not slammed my ieagle into the side of a canyon at close to 1km/s for a few weeks"

Keep in mind this event was partly run by Frontier themselves, the event was also claimed to be open to ALL players regardless of playstyle, my playstyle meant I would do the trip in open, there was no reason to remove me from their discord for the event as I broke none of their rules but the admins of that discord simply did not like me... infact I was booted while I was giving advice to others in voice.

The problem was entirely out of game... and at the end of the day they had the power to remove me from a Frontier run event and used that power to get one over on me, or so they think anyway.
and I reiterate what I said back on page 3 - the best thing about a PvE mode would be the fact that it'd take PvE play out of the hands of groups like that.

I am in several different PG (was in mobius as well) and never agreed to PG's rules. How do you explain that ?
In reality, the only thing i did was requesting access to a PG. Parameters, admission and enforcing specific rules is on the moderator of the PG.

source :
"We have previously stated, and it remains true, that Frontier are not able to manage group specific rules. Players considered to be breaking these group rule sets as established by group moderators should be removed from those groups by said moderators."

There rules are there, Frontier is just saying they do not enforce on behalf of the PG. Even then, just like playing any online game, there is a social contract that has an expectation for behaviors.

You agree by joining.
To pretend otherwise (1) is reductive and silly.

You say that, but I've been griefed time and again. Admittedly, it's only ever been gravity doing the griefing. And big hard planets doing the hurting.

Oh god I don't know how to fly, do I?

Always check the Gs ahead of time. :) Got down to 40 something percent hull within this last year not paying close enough attention to it myself once.

This is assuming you want to bother survivng though as part of your play style. I'm not sure that it's actually the most effective style of play regarding progression in the game.
