They've provided a list of acceptable insults and unacceptable insults.

I'd like to see the members of this community begin to live by this same sort of standard.

I didn't see anything in there about actually killing other players in a PvP game.
The important part is that you don't humiliate them over racial/ethnic/sexual issues when decrying their 'potato aim' (1)

I'm on the fence over this one as I'd rather be racially insulted than shoot like a root vegetable.
That aside, I'm all about more creative (and somewhat benign) trash talk.

I think the biggest insult to someone is being called a member of 12.5 (Old "PvP" group that was garbage, tried to white knight etc and were so bad they made 13th legion look like the best thing since sliced bread)

Being called a "Reverski Shi***er is pretty rough too, but is usually warranted.

I guess what is a little odd for me is that there is always a nice way to say horrible things.

Let's say I were to try out for a squadron.

I'm not sure that...
"You suck...get the [redacted] out of our system, what are you, Irish?"
..hurts anymore than...
"Okay, after a careful evaluation of your skills we've reached an unanimous verdict: You have no skills at all."

Don't knock garbage squads.
I ran one in LOTRO - and while we were truly trash and took many lumps - it really hurt the opposition when they lost to us.

There is a certain romantic beauty to being the 'X' in this sentence:
"Wait, how did you guys lose to X? Were you drunk? Those X guys are total garbage and YOU LOST TO THEM?".

Scrubs are beautiful. :D

I'm failing to see much distinction between these two lists. They both appear to be out of character (though in the context mentioned I realize that being in-character would be abnormal) and replacing a racial slur with ageist presumptions specifically intended to offend is splitting hairs. The idea that the 'nice' list involves less hate and not simply more self-censorship is particularly comical.

Stuff like this is why a chat-only block would be nice.

You're a bad fighter for picking weapons that work for you?

That's precisely what complaints about camping in a shooter or running someone off the road in most racing games are tantamount to.

If I think back over my life and revisit the things that hurt the most none of them involve profanity.

I'm sympathetic to the fact that FDev (and Xbox) have to set some kind of standard but what happens is that people adapt and learn to get the hate across in a way that keeps one off the moderator's radar. In the end, no set of rules can replace the simple imperative to treat others with respect.

Except for Krash - she's a gimble using potato aiming snortle-fish.

What makes me laugh is when a player looses and then throws these insults back at me to explain his own pathetic failure. You don't like my gimbals? Do something about it in combat.
"You Got Lucky Pal"
"I wasn't packing enough Chaff"
"You were lagging"
" seekers!"
"I don't fight people who hard counter me"

And the list goes on

Having done my fair share of it, trash talk is something I don't miss. Sours the experience for everyone.

Fight or shut up. "Good game" afterward. Talk shop. Really is the best way and I wish I'd figured that out sooner than I did!
I like trash talk between friends.
The ribbing and so forth, but that has a subtext of respect sort of built into it.

If someone trash talks me in the game in a genuinely rude way I'd probably never fight them again.

I respect CMDRs that use hard counters. If its an arranged duel, I'll play it out and give him props for good tactics. If I get pulled unexpectedly and my shields are taken out by torps, yes my next move is to high wake out of there pronto, but that's my way of conceding the fight as well.

That specific fight where I torped you a while ago, I just happened to have them on that build. I had been fighting 13th and the torps make em run away once I launch them. I didn't even know your loadout till you dropped and was sure glad that I brought them lol. If I didn't have them the fight more than likely would have gone to you. I didn't have enough dps to take down all those shields :{
