Dav's Hope ?

Would it be considerably more fun doing it in another way? Like scooping them at Davs Hope?
For whatever reason, OP has set himself the problem of locating a point on a planet surface. This has potential to be an interesting and educational activity, learning things about the game (and its limitations), about maths and navigation, requiring real-time mental arithmetic. That sounds to me better gameplay than just doing the same thing and task-killing repeatedly.

Granted, relogging is almost as bad, except that it's clearly intended in a way that task-killing isn't. If OP continues as he's begun, though, he won't do it many times before looking for another navigational or other challenge.

Dav's Hope is actually a good bit of game story itself, if you read the signal source downloads.

Indeed, that's an interesting article. I recognise myself in it to some extent, particularly about finding it hard to ignore an exploit once you know it exists.
I was going to say that I manage to mostly ignore Dav's Hope as it is tedious and the mats aren't that good (and it is a bit exploity)

Then I remembered the other exploit - Jameson - and that one I do find hard to ignore when I need data fast, so yes, exploits can be hard to ignore :)

Any time a 'solution' involves the words 'task kill' it's not a great indicator that you're doing things as the dev intended :)
Indeed, but i still don't get it why it was patched in January and how it is different than resetting a Guardian site 100 times or Jameson' Cobra or Bug Killer Anaconda or Dav's Hope or Crashed Interceptor or the rest of the material farm sites

Those are relogs, so you could argue that the devs are less bothered about it as relogs are allowed within the game. OTOH you used to be able to relog in USS, but they stopped that. To me that seems a clear signal that they don't want farming the same USS over and over. If you can't see a difference between actions enabled by the designed and those not enabled 🤷‍♀️

From an immersion POV I wish they would give viable options for other stuff - POI don't restock immediately, so why does Jameson / Dav etc? I guess they're playing whack-a-mole with respawns, much like that linked article talked about.

I tyically drop in on Dav's Hope on my way out to Robigo (it's on that side of the Bubble), do about 3 laps, go on to get g5 mats from Robigo passenger missions, then drop in for another 3 laps on my way back. Gives me a good assortment of random junk, so I don't always have to trade to get what I need, but I have Robigo's Biotech Conductors and Exquisite Focus Crystals just in case.

Probe the planet, should show up in Nav panel.
As the astute observer said above (no doubt an elite prober), launch probes at the planet. All the POIs will be revealed.
Assuming you have yet ever been there, you have two choices. The first is old and antiquated system in which one utilize coordinates. The second is new! Utilizing the new DSS which sends probes down to the planet or moon is considerably easier and faster.

After probing a surface, wait a minute or so an check in your contents menu, you will see a listing for Dav's Hope. Target it and you'll see a vector some where down on the surface. IF it's solid, target it and start your decent process. If it is broken, it's on the other side of the planet. Stay in orbit and head for the other side. Once the dotted or broken vector is solid, start your decent.

Back to the OP's point - I took a clear-save new commander out there and Dav's did not show up after mapping the planet.

Obviously, going there and scanning all six comms points means you have it in the Nav screen every time you return but I don't understand why it didn't show up after mapping.

Did it show in the FSS (i.e. did the FSS say there was a POI)? I know some places (Jameson is another) show in the FSS but than vanish at some point in the DSS until you exit glide. Not sure if they fixed that recently.

Yeah - Human signal reported - nothing showed on the Nav panel and no POI in the HUD even as I navigated to the right spot (been there many times with different commanders and clear-saves plus know a) how to use the northings and eastings and b) what topography to look for.

Mmm so there it is. The proper way to play Elite. Trying to explain on the forum the convoluted way of finding something like the devs intended it to be found, behind a display bug introduced in the last patch.

If they didn't want us doing it they should disable it.. I have no idea what they 'designed', so typically, if I can do it.. I will do it. Their problem not mine :)

Well, they did 'disable' it. You can't do it from within the game 🤷‍♀️

Next up - people justify modifying game code in-memory to exploit the game, as fdev didn't 'disable it'. Your choice, your justifications - whatever.
