Small ship combat sucks

Ships in conflict zones simply have a whole lot more hull hitpoints than ships you can find anywhere else. A beginner will have a hard time in there. You have longer fights and need more ammunition.

That's why I threw out the Pacifiers from my Vulture and replaced them with a pair of short range blaster burst lasers with inertial impact. They are effectively frag cannons running on energy. Did much better when I tried them out than the Pacifiers in the conflict zone, imho. I don't understand why inertial impact is dissed all over the place so much. I quite like it.

Instead of scrolling through to nearest threat on your hub, scroll through to see the most hurt enemy ship, fly over, take a few pop shots at distance, obviously within you're weapon range, you got the speed to fly and turn on the bigger ships. I did this out of curiosity when going to a CZ in my A rated Imperial Courier (un-engineered).

We have remlock suits that can handle zero to multiple FTL travel in 4..3..2...1.. engage time. 20G seems like a walk in the park.

And yet I black out all the time under boosted-speed maneuvering. I don't mind this so much, it's fine. But the ship blacks out too, it kills speed when the blackout occurs.

Darker screen, locked controls (3 or 4 seconds) and quickly bleeding speed. I suppose it's not a bad thing if you're in an asteroid field when it happens (so you don't slam in to a rock). Otherwise it allows the unwashed slow NPCs to close the range.

The misnamed Corvette

Corvettes are small warships often just above fast-attack craft in size. There are corvette classes in service with modern navies that are faster than WWII era PT boats and vastly more maneuverable than any other category of warship.

The Federal Corvette in Elite: Dangerous is not supposed to represent a lumbering capital ship, none of the player pilotable ships are.

Large ships in ED could probably be heavier, slower, and tougher (hull wise) to more readily distinguish themselves from fighters, however. I'd rather any such changes wait for a balance overhaul that addressed more generally applicable issues of defense inflation and 'permaboost'.

I am totally onboard with that mentality, that is exactly what I've been getting my fun doing and that's why I'm in the CZ chipping away at more powerful enemies instead of making millions in a high REZ with zero risk.

But nearly 15 minutes sustained fire at point blank range to kill another already disabled small ship like a Cobra MkIII still seems broken.

No it doesn’t. Your mentality is not to upgrade your ship and try to get better, but to come online and whinge the game is broken.

Again, so Cobra Mk.IIIs in CZ should take even 5 minutes to shoot down?

Why should one need a Medium or Large ship to take down a Cobra Mk.III in a CZ in a reasonable time?

Make me wonder if an NPC Cobra can kill an NPC Cobra in a CZ

Relax, it's a video game.
Nah I'm gonna lose my mind and bleed out of my ears and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

Or maybe I'll just feel free to voice disapproval when I'm unimpressed with someone's ad-hoc excuse for an undercooked play mechanic. Yeah I guess I'll do that instead. It's relaxing.

Yea. Now we know why they have unlimited MC ammo.... :D;)

That's why my Viper had to disengage from the Spec Op FDL I mentioned earlier...I put ~3000 rounds of corrosive from a small high cap MC into it before I ran dry, but it's MCs (which were almost certainly overcharged) kept right on going for another ten minutes.

Enjoy the environment up there
