New Mining Ship for Beyond - Looking for feed back before purchase

If you hold down the pulse wave scanner button you'll get this black grid effect on a core type roid

This is my Phantom Deep Core Miner Theory Craft

Phantom

I've managed to make it more expensive than the Python :D:D but that's because I stuck a 5A fuel scoop in it. I decided I didn't have enough total range and would like more. Again I've focused on Jump Range and speed and maneuverability.
You only require one each of abrasion blaster and seismic charge launcher.

Save the other two slots for conventional weapons, eg lasers, or multi cannon, in case of fighting off intruders. But you can usually get away from pirates if need be, and the phantom is fast enough for that.

Sadly the T9 was outside my budget.

I'm having issue with the pulse wave scanner today. The brightest yellow shiny roids are consistently coming out with low resource yields and no core. I should probably employ some percussive maintenance on it. Anyone got a hammer?
When you spot a bright roid that you think may contain a core try using the external camera to inspect it for fissures.

Night vision can help.

No fissures, no core...

Will save you from burning through prospectors.

After a short while you’ll be able to spot core roids from a good distance. 👍

I've got very good at spotting fissures now. I didn't know about the black grid for the core types, I will keep an eye out for that.

Interestingly enough I just flew to a station to offload my bigger haul of 64 opals and although the demand just said 1 it still let me sell all 64!. This is good it means I won't be traipsing around the galaxy selling my cargo piecemeal.

Do you use INARA ? It has a page showing where you get best prices, such as for opals.
As long as you identify where you are (or it automatically tracks your location) it will find the best selling price. Hit tab "best sell" You will be amazed how much you can get for your opals by travelling.

"So the rumors where right, there is the ship with the big haul."
System wide notice to all pirates. be on the look out for a pink/red Krait marked Jager Bomber.
Known to be transporting extremely valuable cargo.

Thanks, Northpin - that one is outside my budget. I have maximum of 150 million that I'm willing to spend. So Wetwire's example is the one I'm going to go for. Minus the guardian FSD booster as I've not unlocked them yet. I don't mind taking the longer route.

If it's still over your budget you can skip the reactive armor. That is the really expensive part.
Also you can skip the fighter bay too since it's not really necessary. I didn't since i consider the slf pilot should actually work for the % she gets out of my income

I've actually worked out that I could have spent a LOT less on a ship to do exactly the same job as my Krait II. I've not had to fire guns once so far or even run from a pirate. I'm very careful about where I drop into hotspots and I always boost a good 40km away from my entry point so that the NPCs that spawn there don't follow me.

I don't mind the spend though because I love the build i'm using. It prompted me to unlock a few more engineers too.

I'm just glad that Elite doesn't have system scanning probes like EVE Online does ( that was my job in EVE, I was really good in the stealth / black ops ships )

Your doing it right and will soon have enough credits to buy pretty much anything. It is nice when you reach that point and can buy and a-rate a ship for a specific purpose then sell it, or just buy modules wherever you are and just leave them lying around the galaxy. Credits cease to be a worry, but materials for the greedy engineers become your new worry!

Just curious. How do I tell if a hotspot has given out on me? I've been searching a while now in my hotspot and can't find any more core asteroids. Additionally the picture of the "black outlines" is not holding true for me. I've seen a number of asteroids displaying that but no fissures. Does this also mean the hotspot may have dried up?

From my experience "dried up" is when i get tired of looking because nothing good has shown up in the last few mins.
That is when i jump to another spot in the same ring, another planet in the same system or go sell what i have and look for a new system.

My understanding is the deep core asteroids are "simi" persistent. they will re-spawn but takes a good long time.

I found the frequency of spawning changes if you jump out and go back in again, as if there is a RNG of spawning, but which is also controlled of course by the depletion RNG, so I should imagine it is complicated.

But sometimes, when I don't find anything, I just go back to base and load up on limpets again, come back again .... and it's rock after rock that has voids. Strange, isn't it? When RNG is involved, who can know for sure ?

Seriously Newt, I’ve not used a hotspot once...

I pulled tons of core cargo off Eravate 10, a complete runt of an ice ring in one of the most popular systems in the galaxy, I doubt it even has hotspots.

Try just ignoring hotspots and focus on finding core roids...drop in anywhere.

Are you using an A rated pulse scanner?

Try flying outside your ship while you pulse, the Kraits have chassis blocking your lateral vision of the ring. If you can see left and right you’re more than tripling you’re chance of finding a core asteroid...

I hunt like this...

Yep, that’s my old Krait. Flying safely below the asteroids, and the external camera provides a much better view of your pulse findings.

Core mining is currently the only gameplay that works perfectly with the external camera, you get to watch your ship swanning amongst the roids and make huge credits at the same time...

...beautiful. Totally therapeutic.

Edit: I have to add, I also mine for grandiderite, diamonds and alex. I don’t solely go after opals. But a system that’s buying opals for a good price always pays good credit for the other commodities...and it’s already more credits than sense.

I've found almost every trip there will be a period of -where are all the cores hiding?- just hit the throttle and soon enough that will change. It's just a dry patch, the hotspot is huuuuuuge, not depleted. It's just RNG devils. Keep something targeted as a reference to be sure you are not accidentally circling back around to where you've already been. I usually drop in about 1Mm from the center and then travel towards it.

The black thing... should appear after a double ping with the PWS, hold it down to get 2 pings back to back. You should see black patches/areas, not just lines.

I think I know what I'm doing now per building core miners and actually mining. Happy journey to a station where I sell both commodities at once.

Had a minor panic when I hit the landing gear button in the mouth of the station and got caught up on the cage. Thankfully I shook free and landed safely and became 135 million richer!
