Cheating in Elite Dangerous

I'm not going to be happy with Fdev until we hear that they account ban every player who's used a hack even once. A tepid "I'll shadow ban you for a while" after multiple offenses is ridiculous. I know a lot of people don't care one way or the other because the results just don't obviously effect them, but for players who it does it's a really big deal. If I were looking to get back in, this issue alone would kill it for me. In fact, I consider it egregious enough to go back to all my positive reviews of ED and change them to negative.

For me attacking the cause, or preventing it from being done is the priority. If we stop people being able to do it in the first place then we dont need to worry about the penalty for cheating.

I don't know. All of this seems so melodramatic. There is another thread going on that sorta alludes to what FD does about hackers. I don;t remember peeps changing reviews over the '5 for1' cheating episode. This battle is a constant struggle. One side is up for a while, the other finds a chink, then it starts over again.

And, I would like to point out that public hangings stopped decades ago. Insisting that a gaming company satisfies the urge for public shaming, even though that company's policy is not to, looks to just set one up for dis-satisfaction. If that is the preferred state? Well, then at least there is an issue to hang things on.

With the player base not being particularly big compared to other titles, I would guess that maybe the reason the rather weak penalties is because they don't want to loose any players at all. So FDev would sooner bury it's head in the sand and hope the issue blows over. Maybe the shear number of players cheating is far more than we realise. Either way, if it was possible to fix I'm sure FDev would have implemented by now. I really don't think anything will be done to combat this until we get the big update in 2020

It seems FDev attitude is a kind of "dont ask, dont tell, everything is all right, nothing to see here".

That wont do, not in this case, you let this run loose you loose control of the game and honest players will stop playing it.

I did saw a couple of vídeos on youtube about it and in my many years playing several kind of MMOs I rarely encountered hacking tools that advanced/powerful that work for more than a limited amount of time before been rendered inoperative. It has been several months now and tttit seems nothing has been done as usual. Also the 3 ban policy is laughable.

To end I realy like the "wasnt possible" reply to the UI color changes and how the hack manages to do that. That fact alone says more about the incomptence/unwillingness of FDev that 1000 posts in this fórum.
The last three patches have included blocks for these trainers.

I wonder if we're going to see a "Dish decoder" escalation here. If someone remembers how the illegal decoders constantly had to update to catch up with Dish TVs updated code sets. Frontier could come out with a patch once a week where the particular parts of the executable that Cheat Engine is targeting are moved. Just move them back and forth, here and there, and trainer then needs to be updated just as much. Maybe the hackers will wear out eventually.

I suspect it's about when a situation gets to a certain point whipping up an angry mob can be very effective. Sure, it can get real messy, but desperate times mean desperate measures.

What could go wrong with that plan huh... Not offering any solution, deluded to think they could code the game better than the devs. It's just the monthly drama induced by cheerleaders in a beauty contest.

I hope we still get some answer from FDev after the crying, tho.

I know what you are saying :) But there have been occasions where the angry mob ends up lynching the wrong person...
As a MMO ED is hardly there, much needs working on - I think we all know that. If angry mobs are going to be riled up each time someone doesn't like something, sooner or later will come the cry "Nay, enough"
It would bother me little if the game lost multiplayer (well, as long as it is after I've had a chance to meet the Colonia Mafia!) but I am in a minority, and in that respect my opinion truly doesn't bear any weight.

Proof positive right here that success breeds jealousy.

(well, as long as it is after I've had a chance to meet the Colonia Mafia! Colonia Chamber of Commerce!)

Accepted your FR, by the way! Sorry for the delay. Was out of the game for a few days.

That's why you don't do it often, but only in extraordinary circumstances. :) That gave me an idea BTW, let's give them a few more days to respond. ;)

Problem the cheat programs is that it's always a war of attrition. Devs probably have a team working on it constantly to stop the hacks but the hackers are working on getting around the fixes at the same pace
