I'm Starting To Imagine Things Because Of The discussions Of Cheat Engine

Today I met a CMDR, who was docked at the guardian site in the Interstellar Initiative system. Another potential thargoid hater, I thought. I decided to make a little trouble for this ASPE, so I aimed at his cargo hatch and pulled my trigger. A single railgun. Now here's the thing. He had shields, which didn't fade a bit. Yeah, we'll see, I thought. So I pulled my other trigger. 4 plasma accelerator, two rounds while the ship undocked and low waked (dismissed maybe, didn't pay too much attention). Even if it has maximized shields, which it apparently does not, this should've made a difference. Well it didn't. Those shields just won't budge. I noticed while this is strange, it's also contradictory, because if this CMDR is invulnerable, he wouldn't have fled.

A couple of minutes later I travelled to the same site. This CMDR's ship was already back there. Bold enough. His shield and hull integrity was the same as when he left (hull 98% which I assume caused by emergency stop, and my phasing didn't do a thing). This time I started shooting PAs immediately. After several rounds the ship finally started to register damage, and exploded after a few more shots (no, the damage didn't go exactly with the shots). He didn't cheat to be invulnerable.

I have not participate in PVP activities a lot so my knowledge is probably limited. I know lag is something, but this is new to me. He didn't teleport while his ship left. For the record, this is the second time in the same system I've encountered this unregistered damage. It just happened, with no other signals of anomaly. Here comes my one question: Why did it happen?

Well, there is cheating going on. It is not a rumor. Take your details on the situation, and pass them onto FD for review.

Not entirely accurate. An actual 'cheater' that has brains would not want another live player to be able to record video showing the cheating. If a person that has applied cheats feels that fleeing is faster than alt-tabbing to undo (or at least reduce) the cheats....they might flee. Honestly, only a fool would use blatantly obvious cheats in combat with another player.

That I cannot answer. Just thought I'd share the potential reason someone who IS cheating would flee.

P.S. You're a meanie

Thanks for reminding. Edited for better choice of words. Like I said, I personally don't think it's cheating going on, just a really weird situation.

You have a point here.

True, but rather irrelevant. :sneaky:

Delays in registering damage aren't terribly uncommon. Latency or high client load can do this; the attacker's client determines when hits are scored, but the defender's client has to register and confirm damage. I've also seen delays between hits scored and the effects of specials (including a lagged application of the damage increase from corrosive) even with solid connections/clean instances.

There has been a lot of weirdness around the CG Guardian ruins in general, quite possibly due to the high amount of traffic and instances in Open that rarely reset.

Did you message the Commander and ask them?

I don't think he could or would answer any of this, especially if it's just a glitch.

The witch hunt has begun.

I really don't want to start a witch hunt, but I have't really heard much about this, in or out of the game.

I guess this is the case. If it's normal regarding Elite gameplay, so be it.

Not exactly normal, but it would be far from unheard of for someone alt-tabbed out on the surface, across an ocean, or running on a lemon PC, to appear to have a delay when damaged.

I mean, if it happens, it's normal. :rolleyes:Now I have to live with this bug, or feature working as intended, or neither until FDev decides what it is.

Exactly this. Thanks to FDs "oh so wise" idea to use a P2P architecture, there's a plethora of possible reason for what the OP describes. I have directly witnessed duels where BOTH participants in the end declared the other one to be a combat logger. And that's just one rather obvious thing.

But of course, now it's demons and witches everywhere. Anything just vaguely odd, easily explained by the games terrible choice of infrastructure, will be seen as a cheat. Great fun.

Interesting point brought up in this thread

something to think about - My wife works in the pharmaceuticals industry and deals a lot with change of packaging.

Often if a product has been giving a new style of container or even simply a change of design colour the company will receive complaints that the product doesn't work so well anymore. This is despite the actual product being identical and unchanged within the packaging.

It's pretty clear that there is a problem with hacks in the game but it's worth remembering that human perceptions can be fickle. You may have fired on a guy with cheats running - but as you pointed out maybe not

short answer - just because you heard the story of the bogeymen doesn't mean he's hiding around every corner.

Edit - reporting suspicious behaviour is probably a good thing too

I am starting to believe that the real Will only exists in live streams and forum Will is a bot that only appears to controversial topics on page 38.

Maybe it's all this talk of Bots and Cheats who knows what is real anymore, even the Hackers are claiming to be Robin Hood types :)?

Probably the instance..

During my time in that CG, doing much the same as you, I got in combat with a guy in a chiefy, he looked like he's either Dc'd or logged and then.. BAM! 50% hull, no drives, my ship was caked from seeker spam, took thirty full seconds to register.

I think the planetary instancing is still bugged out. But then I did have a fight just now where a full PA rack was regestering hit markers with 0% damage to my opponents hull, so its more than likely just the game is just broken at the moment. It hasnt been exactly stable since the drag removal though.
