Is this a serious question?

Perhaps I'm not being helpful enough.

Here's a form for everyone to use...

Tick or cross as you progress through Frontier's TEN DAYS OF SURPRISES, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND COMPETITIONS.

Compare with your friends!

Discuss the distinction between a surprise and an announcement!

Send your results to Michael Brookes. Better still, Edward Lewis, that new guy... who hasn't been reduced to a weeping mess of nerves. Yet.

Edward can collate them all, mark them, return them, and can then formulate an Action Plan designed to increase (or decrease) the volume of surprises, announcements and competitions Frontier will prepare for Elite's 40th Anniversary.

BEST POST EVER I THINK - you have won the internets and are made the premanent rank ELITE

Very much agree with this. "10 days of celebration"... if you watch Twitch, and if you use Twitter, etc... it should all have been done via the newsletter (which announced the whole thing!) with the forums used for anything that required interaction.

I am in agreement with Morbius as well. It should of been done via newsletters and forum.

Frontier really need to sort out their PR department. Prize giveaways should be done through the official Frontier web-sites and open to everyone. A lot of people just don't have the time to watch twitch streams of a game when they could actually be playing the game for themselves. I guess I also expected too much, the original announcement made it sound really exciting but I am so far left incredibly underwhelmed.

I concur... I thought the prize give aways were being done via people tweeting? Not watching Twitch?

Imagine if 10 probes had been hidden across the systems, and when people found them and scooped them they could get a goodie bag?

Hint images could even have been posted if some were not being found.

You are required to post your mementos about Elite with #Elite30Years on Twitter and you don't have to watch streams. Twitter most likely was chosen as it is easy to reach social network. Not everyone wants to register forum nickname. Also there's a lot of tools allowing to do draws from people posting tweets with tags.

Can't rep you at this time but that sums it up for me!

For the thousands relying on the newsletter only, following the announcement there has been next to no information or follow up, just the Galnet fiction fluff... which IMHO isn't that "celebratory". I would have expected the newsletter to be the primary way of delivering the celebration updates. Even casually reading the forums it's not been obvious what's going on. Damp squib springs to mind.

Yeah and not everybody wants to register with twitter, we are here at FD for details on ELITE.
Come on FD put it on the main site this is silly.

Just occasionally I'd really, really like DB and FD to come up with a little Star Citizen style communication, hype and storytelling. So far I agree with the damp squib thoughts.
I appreciate that over the next few days there will be lots of excitement around new B2 features and the impending release but FD could do so much more to fan the flames a little.

Speaking as a Brit sometimes you need to be able to say "Look at us, isn't what we're doing amazing!"
FD rely too much on journalists/others to tell the story instead of putting themselves out there outside of the events, and they need another Mark Boss to focus comms on us backers.

Elite is shaping up to be brilliant, start shouting about it FD!

Anyone streaming original Elite or FE2 ? Everything seems to soley be ED.

If there's enough demand for this I'd be happy to try* and stream during my slot on Sunday evening some random fumblings in the now-free Beeb Elite and slightly more coherent playing of the DosBox/shareware version of Frontier: Elite 2.

What do you guys reckon? :)

*I say "try" because I've only ever streamed ED - not sure how BeebEm and DosBox react to being "hooked", will need to do some testing tonight.

and out come the fanboyz rallying to the ED cause

So you people whine and cry that you don't get a super duper special surprise delivered on your door every day by magic elves in sparkly tutu's , but anyone making light of it is a "fanboy"... Maybe you should learn to manage your expectations instead.

Also, the contest is obviously on twitter because every #Elite30Years tweet is like free advertising, a contest on the forums is not.

Ah, I thought they advertised it as a "celebration"... sorry, I didn't realised it was just a marketing ploy.... that explains it. :D

ill tell you another thing, I bet the official launch party event will just be biscuits with a free cup of diluted orange juice. maybe a free A4 bit of paper with a cut out space station printed on it.

You forgot the hand-made paper-chains. Probably some cheese sandwiches too.

Well that comment from Mobius is really sad. More for what it implies.
I've always looked up to him.

To me his judgment is quite heavy. But I have to concur.
I can only follow the Forums and newsletter/Galnet combo- and what I've collected so far is really little info.

I don't even know what a goodie bag is. :/
