I was right, you were wrong

Once again, you seem to have access to more information than the rest of us. "If base building does come it won't be like NMS base building" how do you know this, how could you possibly know this?
Not more knowledge then you. I just use my brain with the knowledge we have to come to a logicl conclusion.

Hello Commanders,

Wanted to jump in here and say that Fleet Carriers are not cancelled, and while we cannot give you more details on them at this time, they are still planned in our development roadmap. We do understand that waiting without much information can be frustrating, so as soon as we can give you more info, we will.

Hi Paige, I know this probably falls under the category of "stuff you can't talk about yet" but what I would really like to know about Fleet Carriers is some clarification whether they'll be part of the paid content.

For example, when they were first announced it was as free content as part of the Beyond season.

Whether or not it gets put in with the big 2020 update is irrelevant to me, but I am uncomfortable with previously announced free content being put behind a paywall after the reprioritisation.

Even if the carriers come in the 2020 update, as with previous updates that include both Horizons-only (paid under season pass) and Non-Horizons (free) content, they could still be put in the update as Non-Next-Era (free) content releasing alongside the Next-Era (paid) content.

So what I mean here is that 2020 is irrelevant, I just want to know if I'll have to now pay for a feature that was going to be free.

That’s a good question!

While we’d love to tell you everything as we find it out, the reality is that we need to show things when they’re ready, and in the best shape possible. Every single feature, in every single game, goes through multiple iterations, bug tests and redesigns before they’re released to the public. As such, if a company were to release all the information they have, you’d end up with a lot of convoluted and eventually incorrect content.

We know it’s exciting to get a sneak peek at things in development, but as mentioned, things change and when that has to happen, we wouldn’t want to let anyone down. You also have to understand that you can’t just speak about a feature, you have to show it. That requires development time to teach the feature, tech time to set up the build, creative services time to make images and videos and community time to design a release plan and get that information out.

To do all that for information which will change very quickly doesn’t make a lot of sense. So, in order to make sure that what we present to you is as correct as possible, sometimes we have to hold our secrets to our chest and ensure it’s right before we show it off to you all.

TL;DR – Games development is constantly in flux and features constantly change. Showing off information early leads to misinformation and potential disappointment. There’s also a lot more to releasing info than simply putting a post on the internet.

We hope this information helps explain the situation a little!

You talk about reveal and announcement but the question was road map. Why doesn’t ED have a road map like 95% of all released software???? Consumers want ro know where the software they purchased is heading. I can completely understand not revealing information for a new game in development that had not yet been released, but for the development of a already released product users usually want to know where it is heading.

Kind regards

What knowledge do we have about base building from Frontier?
Not about base building, but the rest of the game. In my view what parts ED has are far more believable and realistic then NMS apart from galaxy wide telepresence (but hopefully that will change when space legs becomes a thing). Therefore I expect player made planetary bases to be similar

It would be out of character for them to come up base building that was completely wacky.

Do you mean while NMS are knocking out new era upgrades on a regular basis, Frontier are proceeding at NASA like speeds, so no MARS landing before 2030?

:)

NMS maybe knocking out upgrades, but so far I wouldn't call any of them new era. More like the era it was meant to be at release. As to FDev being like NASA, well I don't know the ins and outs of programming, but I would hazard a guess that it is easier to make updates to a game with a games engine that was designed specifically for that game as opposed to ED which uses the Cobra engine while very versatile, as we have seen, hasn't been made especially for ED from the ground up. But I am no expert and I would guess that you are not either. So comparing them is a bit useless as we don't really know whats involved.

Also everything NMS has that ED has, ED does it in a far superior way in my view. Making something good takes time. NMS doesn't take long because it isn't good, or its very basic.

What truth is that?

Good thing you don't resort to vague generalities, based on your own opinion, from your extensive programming knowledge :)
