So there’s currently a Cmdr stuck in the slot, station defences having no affect, assumed he’s proving a point about cheats...

Staggered by the apathy demonstrated by some players here.

“If you don’t like cheaters then don’t play”

“What can FDev do about it?”

“Demonstrating the cheats by cheating is stupid”

It’s a protest. A damned good one as we are all talking about it. In the past month there has been more talk about cheating than ever before.

If you’re investing a serious amount of time playing this game then it’s only correct and right that you expect the developers provide an environment where you can play it the way it’s meant to be played without being inconvenienced or killed by somebody who is freely both breaking the EULA and the rules set up within the game.

The response from FDev historically has either been nothing’s or blatant whitewashing (wasn’t there a group who reported their friends for cheating FDev said they’d banned them and then they popped up and said “nope, we are still here”?)

It doesn’t affect me as I’m a PS4 Cmdr but the BGS and other elements these cmdr’s affect does affect me second-hand.

Plus it’s just something that doesn’t need to be tolerated.

I don’t care if FDev can’t fix this overnight. I do care that they care enough to do something about it.

Hell, some kind of checksum that uploads all your ships stats or something when you log out, and compares them when you log in - if they’ve changed then that means you’ve altered your ship client-side and so you can’t go into the game. I have no idea how this would work or even if that particular example could be implemented, but it’s more out in the open now so hopefully more discussion can be had and a solution worked towards.

Thats a very myopic view on the matter but ok youre entitled to your opinion.
With all the conversations this forum has about FDev not respecting people's time... I'd say this whole prank is rather disingenuous at best and hypocritical in the way it deliberately prevents people from accomplishing gameplay. It's no more and no less the same as a PvPer who sits at a station killing explorers in their paper ships carrying months of data. All that's different is the scale. 6 months of one person's time ruined, or 6 hours of a thousand people's.
I say again, it's just griefing!
Yes the perp should get a ban. Then FDev should check their records to find any other accounts on that credit card and ban all them too.

I would highly doubt anyone in a stable state of mind waited 6 hours for him to possibly move from the slot, having not seen the stream i wouldve thought from others posts that he would have been happy to discuss his reasons with anyone who cared to ask why he was blocking the grill (thats generally how a protest works, wouldnt be much of a protest if he didnt). Its a far cry from indescriminately killing explorers which i think is a rather weak analogy , sure it may hinder some for a minute or 10 (beung generous here) but lets be real its hardly pvp is it?. Technically you have a point about the possibility of "griefing" however overblown i think it may be.

I shall sacrifice 20 tons of imperial slaves to a hydrogen-rich white dwarf in memory of his account. This issue threatens existence of our world. Seeing "hacks are becoming a problem..." in steam windows marks doom and deters buyers. These hacks are bad for business and not sign of a healthy multiplayer game enviroment.

How dare they not have even started work yet!
Ya it's not like it's new to them or anything like that....

Well exactly - they already stated their position in that thread - this thread illustrates a somewhat pointless protest to bring something to their attention that they have already acknowledged. So why you think they should say anything other than 'yeah, still aware my dudes, still aware' I do not know 🤷‍♀️

While it is true that this action itself doesn't prove it, everyone who is in any way interested in PvP knows that literally any of us on pc can have godmode shields within a few minutes if you know your way around the arcane source of knowledge called Google. He isn't proving it, he is simply using a publicly available, openly discussed cheat program FD has been aware of for a very long time. But rather than using it in a sneaky way and griefing people with it he does it in a way that gets him nothing at all while maximizing exposure to this thing.

I dont like cheating. But at some point FD needs to step up from blanket "we're on the case use the report function we're doing everything we can blablablabla' because everyone interested in this knows its a load of bovine feces. Either fix this, which quite possible requires a complete overhaul of the network infrastructure, or just go on public and say:"PvP is a joke, has always been a joke and will continue to be a joke. We do not care, we will not fix it. If you want this, be advised that beyond 'agreed upon duels' it is just a mindless cheatfest and we aren't gonna bother doing anything about it.'
This.

Well done to the guy, his experiment has/will accomplish(ed) several things...a lot more people than already knew, now know about the cheating...He will find out what Frontier ACTUALLY do about it, and will be able to report back... and lastly, all the important players are also talking about this (again),and there is no doubt this reached FD ears fast, as there are several discords where FD reps are present too. I think he's done us a service and I'll chip in to buy him another account if he gets banned.

Bet none of you thought you'd hear that from me...eh? :) Cheating is the worst thing in a video game, and doubly so in a multiplayer one. This needs sorted out yesterday.

Like I said, the problem is, there's no "win".

there's no loss either, what's your point? what "problem" do you have with this?
you don't agree? fine. dunno why people shoud even need to convice you.

If they provide the kind of response you suggest, it just "proves" they're not interested.
If they do respond in some significant way, it just "proves" that the reporting system is worthless and the best way to get something fixed is to be livestreamed exposing the problem.

much simpler: this is just pressure. so frontier get their act together. which it doesn't seem they do.

maybe they won't. yet they should, and people is still free and right to demand, jeez ...

The only question that matters right now is...

Is the ship still there in the slot?

Oh and ...
maybe they won't. yet they should, and people is still free and right to demand, jeez ...
Actually no, we don't have any right to demand anything from FDev, though we seem to keep on trying.

Well this is my point, Yes they say they know about it, and have known about it, But yet we see the same players plus new ones are doing it, and the only response form FDev is We take this activity very seriously .....
A little bit of communication goes a long way, but the standard response and then nothing leads to a lot of negative speculation.

Poppycock? Why not balderdash as well!

I'm not sure if it can be applied to all forms of civil disobendience. Would have to know which type you are thinking about. But generally speaking i think it applies. Or as my mum always said, two wrongs don't make a right.

What I am most definitely saying is you don't protest cheating by cheating.
