So there’s currently a Cmdr stuck in the slot, station defences having no affect, assumed he’s proving a point about cheats...

Give one person the key to ban any user on that architecture?
When you start ED your user ID is sent to the servers (where your save game resides?) and a connection is made - I assume that it would be particularly easy for Frontier to send a command to disconnect any user ID to whichever server handles user connection. Think of the times when recent patches were released and we were disconnected due to either matchmaking or adjucation servers being 'unavailable', then apply the same principle to an individual/wave of account(s) :)

It may be possible, but wouldn't that be a lot of responsibility for 1 person? For that scope of responsibilities a system of checks would be advisable. And usually that takes a bit longer than having admins meting out rulings on dedicated servers.

At least the account could be restored equally quickly - I assume we are discussing a proven 'cheat' in this manner, rather than just a player who has a name an admin doesn't like, or who may have jogged his arm in the pub causing him to spill his beer :)

What's the point in streaming a cheater griefing everyone else, supposedly making a point? Aren't you providing said cheater with the conduit they are seeking? Is that the agreed upon outcome?

Every day folks remind me why I play in Solo.
Do you cheat in solo?

Some games require two factor authentication on mobile phone.
Up to Frontier whether they'd think this is something they'd want to put the time and effort into setting up and monitoring, but it would surely put off a lot of people if they knew they'd have to change mobile phone details to get round a ban.

i saw this somewhere:

actually, dunno how he feels about the ban, of course it was to be expected.

frontier just banning him and saying nohing else is exactly the last thing they should have done in this specific situation. and it somehow surprises nobody.

oh well, let's grab more popcorn.

Funny how they permaban him immediately but anything else it's "Rest assured we are working on it and take things seriously"

Well, what would you do in their position, when someone effectively yells "Look at me! I'm cheating!", would you just shrug and thank him for pointing out that the cheat exists, then tell him to keep on playing?

This is so half done. Can the guy at least try to see if influence is not as broken when banned than in the actual game? cant he test multicrew, and PG? Get his name on a bazillion stars with his instajump powers?

There is a whole shadowverse of possibility... Just calling for sportmanship and care for his fellow gankers is so moot. We all love those guys who all try to roleplay their unique take on DarthVader but there's an opportunity missed here.

Would be nice to get a nice ban list with CMDR names every month. That way we can see who has been cheating and who was banned.

Wishful thinking due to their "naming and shaming" policy though :(

For Instance, I bought a game called Escape from Tarkov from a small Russian Developer who takes cheating very seriously. Now they were having a problem with cheaters untill they updated their anti cheat, and published monthly reports with player in game names and handed out IP bans.

Did it stop the cheating? No. There still are a few that try and get away with it, but they get caught eventually. It sure discouraged it and made the game much more enjoyable for everyone.

Oddy enough, I agree with you, but "Political Correctness" is the order of the day and all we can ever expect is "something has been done", a very dry bone rather than a juicy, meaty one :)

Sadly a dog who has been eating meat it's whole life tends to react poorly and starve if given a bone. In this case it's a bone held behind the back of the dogs owner and all the dog can do is imagine it.

Without putting forth names, would it really hurt FD to post here once per week:

xx number of players were caught cheating this week.
xx number of those players were shadow-banned for a month.
xx number of those players were shadow-banned for three months.
xx number of those players were banned to the shadow universe permanently.

Please don't cheat. It's not nice. We'll be watching.

Would it REALLY hurt them to do this?
At the very least it would show they're doing something about it.

i doubt pc is the reason in this case, and i disagree that that's all we should expect. not in this situation.

in a normal day to day situation, yes.

in a situation where the community has called out already several times and each time received that exact response and nothing more, when there is a guy that ultimately exposes himself to trigger a response, and shows that nothing has changed, and they simply dish him out the highest penalty they possibly can and repeat exactly the same rubbish ... this is indeed worrying.

if you ask me, it's not that they don't care. no, that can't be. they must be in panic mode and completely blocked. i see no other explanation.

i doubt pc is the reason...
Sadly, it is in the case of 'Naming & Shaming'
In this case the cheating was made public by intention, so a permaban was issued but AFAIK not made public by FD.
Rather than defame the developers for 'saying nothing' (as is the hue & cry here) bar admitting the fact that they are aware of the issue, why not wait and see, I doubt they are in panic mode :) It is a bit like demanding any Security centred organisation tell you how many 'Black Hats' they have uncovered and how...

Or of course just wait for the doom of the game where the cheats outnumber the 'straight' players - from comments being made in the last few weeks that day must be in the very near future for how rampant the cheats are becoming...
