Well, this could've gone better

Through sheer stupidity and dumb luck I now have the Guardian Relic ( and a Guardian tablet). What I don't have is all of the pylons charged, having probably run out of time again. But I do have the relic ( noticed I can't board my ship with it either).
Can I now go back to the machine area w/ the double pylons, hopefully ? Or do I have to recharge all pylons all ovwer again ?

When you go back to your ship in the SRV the ship needs enough spare cargo capacity for anything picked up by the SRV otherwise you can't dock the SRV as it is folded back into its cargo are to save space when back in the ship.

The one that always irritated me was the site where one of the pylons is situated in a little hollow, off to the side, near the main gateway to the site.
For some reason, I could never find my way straight to that one.
I'd always drive up over the hill, trundle around a bit and then, eventually, find the hollow with the pylon in it.

Just sayin....
Oh, yes .... that one :cautious:

I know the Guardian site thing is a hoot and very enjoyable to many of you guys but I have to say I'm exhausted.
Finding all five ( or is it six) pylons during the time period has for me been an excercise in futility.

Gathering the droppings from the shot Sentinels has also been iffy at best; as dark as it is at the site and as truned around as I'm getting fighting the Sentinels off I often forget where they went down and their leavings disappear.

And it seems to me you can either pick up Sentinel droppings or you can fire up the pylons and do that, not both, at least not not me.

No mater where I am on the Guardian site, if I quit out and come back I appear to respawn in a deep, dark ravine, no idea where I am until I can finally find my way out, find my ship on the radar and reorient myself.

Truthfully I'm not having any fun at this but as I'm already here and already have the damn ancient relic I'' try to stick with it, maybe tonight or tomorrow again. Get all five ( I thought it was six) pylons lit and then take this damn ancient relic and do something with it.

I must completely suck.

Are you using night vision in the SRV?

Somehow I triggered a Sentinel who began to hammer me, thnaksfully the point defense mounted on my ASP X worked. I decided it might be workable to kill the Sentinel shooting me from the ship, which I finally did with the ship pulse lasers though even that took longer than I'd expected;

I think that took longer simply because you missed more often than not. Weapons only focus on a target if you've selected it - it looks as if you were too close and mostly shooting the landscape round the sentinel, only hitting it occasionally. The sentinal is smaller than the gap between your lasers.

I have to say I had it easy doing these Guardian sites because I did them with a friend while in a wing. It helps immensely to have eyes in the sky guiding you to where you need to go next. We took turns doing this while the other was on the ground. Some of the Guardian sites have a generally easy layout, terrain-wise, but others have very challenging terrain to try and navigate. Throw in trying to do it all in the dark and it can quickly become a tad frustrating. Eyes in the sky make it so much better. If you have anyone you can wing up with and head out there then I highly recommend doing so.

Edit:

Yes Night Vision is very helpful, I use every time I'm left in the dark whether in my ship or in my SRV.

Just been out to test the missiles against Sentinels, and saw another Commander out there.
Took the Sentinels out with missiles, then hovered over the pylons flashing my lights at the location.
Worked very well. (y)

And if you do want to wipe out the Sentinels from your ship, make sure to bring a dumbfire missile launcher or two, they have a huge AoE effect and take out the Sentinels in two or three shots.

I just came back from getting my Guardian FSD booster and the Ram Tah mission, and I'm really surprised at all the difficulties the OP encountered.
1) Drive around and find and raise all the pylons before trying to energize them. This not only gets you familiar with the layout but gets rid of most of the Sentinels in piecemeal fashion. They often arise in response to raising the pylons. Note that you have to raise the pylon(s) by the Data Terminal first, and the others after that.
2) PDTs are a hoot, a fireworks show while shooting the Sentinels down. No need to land close unless terrain requires it, as they have a generous range.
3) I don't recommend carpet-bombing the sites to energize turrets and down the Sentinels, as they yield important mats needed for most Guardian module fabrications. These are also rather ephemeral, fading out in just a few minutes, so it's better to use the SRV to scrag Sentinels and gather their guts (no cargo space since they are mats).
4) Gathering the artifacts (Relics, Urns, Orbs, etc.) is not really a paying proposition unless you have serious cargo space, as the most precious, the Relics and Ancient Keys, go for under 14k AGP, and even one in your cargo can be a pirate magnet (stoopid pirates!). I filled my hold on the Ram Tah mission only because they were there and I had to scan obelisks anyway (which requires artifacts), otherwise I would have let them lay.
5) Git gud with the SRV's vertical thrusters 'cause the Guardian Structures are not only twisty and turny but usually sport a few tank traps for the unwary.
6) Use both Structure remnants and terrain to help with the Sentinal fights, they really are pretty dumb and have a distinctive attack pattern you can suss out and use to your advantage, especially if you have a PDT umbrella.
7) Having done all this in a 'Conda, I can state that there was only one site where I could not land within easy driving distance, a mountaintop retreat I nicknamed the Eagle's Nest. Everyplace else just required patient scoping for the sweet spot(s).

This exactly. Everything you wrote. The various obstacles are one thing but the terrain on this rock is c-r-a-z-y. I ran it again- 5th time and still managed to not be able to find/ activate one of the pylons before the timer ran out! I've seen the vids. I have maps. What I don't have, eyes in the sky..

You can use the external camera ..... this gives you the ability to look from overhead and gather your bearings, but if you aren't used to using it, or don't have its controls bound yet ......

I would have said this,(zoom out and get a top down or high isometric view),but it doesn't work on night side.

This too. Am getting virtually no vertical thrust ( on a low g world) in order to overcome the many traps and obstacles- am beginning to wonder if I'm doing it wrong ( tapping the 'B' button) in order to vertical thrust. Anyone else playing the game on Xbox ?

The Guardians mini game is extremely good at training you to be a better pilot, and SRV driver, because it requires pip management. Too many pips to shields and weapons at the expense of ENG and you run out of jumping power.

Put some pips to your ENG until you need to boost shields and fire weapons.

Yea me.
Try putting 4 pip in ENG and 2 SYS when moving, then switch to 2 SYS and 4 WEP when fighting.
With 4 pip in ENG you can literally take off from a full stop stance. I use it to pickup guardian stuff that remain hanging ontop of pilars and structures

I've done that, just made a vid of it and am awaiting rendering, will post. I get the thruster sound and it seems like it adds a fraction of movement...the same button works fine for ship boost..In the meantime I found this, thisnis exactly what's happeneing to me- boost sound but nothing else.

I don't have the same key for ship boost (which is for forwards movement) and for SRV boost (which is for upward movement). My SRV boost upward is bound to the R key* if that helps (whereas ship boost is on the joystick).

EDIT - Note that the problem reported in Reddit was solved by changing a key bind.

* R for Boost upwaRds .... makes sense, right? :)

Here's a vid, am playing on XBOX so I don't have very many options to change bindings. I did try switching the 'B' button for vertical thrusters to the 'A' button but same result- the vertical boost sound but no boosting. Take a look below, very frustrating. If this anomaly is unsolvable it kinds of takes the gameplay right out of the srv, maybe i should begin a seperate post in the XBOX forum.
