2020: Do you think its going to be worth the wait?

I think its going to be fine and i will buy the dlc I dont expect much and what we have now is so much more than what I thought the game was when I bought it. Im not one to build a game in my head and hope someone builds it for me I play someones elses vision and dream and I like this game very much.

I was gullible enough to buy the lifetime pass, so I'll be around until I finally break even 'cause I'm just that stubborn. But the magic and my faith have long since faded and what I'm really looking forward to in 2020 is Cyberpunk 2077.
Same here. I think 2077 will take the cake and keep me busy for many hours.

I think Frontier kinda messed up when they decided to focus on other silly titles instead of Elite. I'm sure this was a good financial decision for Frontier, but it was a potentially devastating delay for Elite. ED could have cornered the market and been the premier space Sim, but Frontier made several decisions to throttle marketing, development, and server resources at key moments, causing each launch day, a day that is make or break for WoM marketing, to be a laggy, crashy, slide show. Hence the game hasn't taken off like it could have with proper marketing and development. It often seems this may have been somewhat intentional especially when you consider that the P2P network design was never intended for Elite to support more than a niche mmo base. This problem is fixable though, would just take serious network investment.

Despite all of this, I'm still in the optimist camp. I've lost count of the AAA space games coming out and they are all slated for 2020, so if you want your space itch scratched before then, there aren't any serious competitors. Unless you're into tech demos. So until all the games are out, I think there's a strong chance that Frontier will pull it out of the fire in time to be competitive. Despite some arcade like features, ED is the ONLY game that comes close to representing what real space looks like. To me that is priceless and irreplaceable. You have to use a planetarium app to get anything more accurate, and even those don't come close for certain features. And despite what many people say, the galaxy is still vibrant with an overlapping patch work of highly active groups that keep the Galaxy very interesting, at least in Open.
There is only a certain amount of money you can generate with a 5 year old title.
I'm glad FD did as they did, because that means they can continue develop Elite, albeit on a for me a bit disappointing slow pace.
I'm not sure the would've been able if they did focus on E: D only (I'm neither programmer nor financial expert, so 🤷‍♂️)

What I know is that I spend a staggering amount of playtime ingame still. I'm looking forward for every new stuffz to haz or patches and changes.
I'll propably like some, and others not so much, but that's pretty normal I guess.

edit: oh and to answer the question: I don't wait for 2020, I play the game now.

No Idea, let's hope lessons have been learned from CQC and PowerPlay

If we have a bookmark management system I'll be happy

ED provides a representation of the Milky Way galaxy that you can fly around in with a decent flight and combat model. Until someone produces something similar FD have something no one else has. In VR it's exceptional and I cannot see myself not wanting to fly somewhere, sometime.
I am convinced they are building space legs at some level, because that is where new money may be found. What they do with it though is critical.
ED is a mature game and content is needed for long time players. That's what this thread is really exposing, their is a perception there is nothing to do.
1) Current Elite rankings are for medium game players, there needs to be enhancements to the rankings so they are suitable for long time players to have something to attain to.
2) The alien threat need to force player engagement, at the moment it's optional.
3) The long term player needs content beyond ships - base building - money sinks - exploration content
4) BGS, factions, Powers ans Clans needs to have a logical structure so that it hangs together to provide a visibile, competitive structure

Space Legs will only work if there is the game play to go with it. Battling aliens on foot in space stations, on ship or on planets,. A New alien race to be discovered. What if the Guardians are still alive? Clan battles for control of a space station.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the update. ATM I'm just doing Powerplay related PvP so what I'm really hoping for is some kind a powerplay revamp or update.

Yes,

However, a couple of weeks after the launch, we'll be back to the usual complaining, Back Seat Developer Criticism, complaints about the game dying and people crying because the can't fly the Cobra Mk IV (Seriously people Why? They should change the well known phrase to "You can't polish a Mk IV!")

No.
Of the 3 leaked topics, none interest me particularly:
1. I have actively campaigned against
2. Is clearly a grindfest
3. Looks like even more fiddly ninja only combat

Sure there will some stuff I like, but if the majority of the development time has gone into the big ticket items that I dont want, I cant see me being very enthusiastic to have waited all this time for nothing of interest.

I don't "wait for the 2020 update", I just play ED when I feel like it, and play something else when I don't. If the game weren't good enough for my time, I wouldn't stick with it in the vain hope that it might become better and retroactively make the time I had already wasted in it somehow better.

ED can last me a lifetime in its current form since there can't be anything else like it. And at some point the next update might drop and I'll play that when I feel like it and wont when I don't.
