Why can't a mamba have fighters?

Look up the Python and the Krait Mk II on Coriolis. Only one optional internal slot and some minor ship parameters makes their load out identical. What we cannot see without max engineering both is that the Krairt will have 50 m/s more boost, 35% better shields, better maneuverability, and a little less weight.
Arguably you could say something similar about many other ships if you just look at plane stats and ignore the reality of how they actually handle and feel.

The KM2 and Python are markedly different vessels in the way they fly - sufficiently different that to try and compare them directly is a bit unfair to both IMO.

There's always a meta. ;)

Although arguably, in Elite's case, it is pale and vastly overshadowed by the balance issues present, meaning the "meta" part is utterly inconsequential to the "game" part. It's hard to bring out-of-game knowledge and apply it creatively when pretty much everything in-game points towards a certain "best" solution.

There are always those that want their favourite ships to have a SLF bay.

If FD gave people what they wanted, then every ship with a size 5 module slot would have a fighter bay.... and 5 huge hardpoints, and 20 gazillion shields and hull, and 20 utility slots and be able to jump 10000 LY.... oh, and for no extra cost.

The Mamba is a fine ship as it is.

EDIT: Put it this way OP, a SLF is considered to be equivalent to adding an extra huge hardpoint. What would you be willing to lose in return for that? Perhaps one of the huge hardpoints off the ship? Reduce its shield strength?

If nothing, then I'd also like to add a rider to this requiest asking for the Cobra Mk4 to get a size 5 module slot and to be able to fit a SLF bay as well.

Yeah, they should definitely share the love.

I demand that the Krait gets a C4 hardpoint.
I mean, the Mamba's got one so, y'know, share the love.
One c4? I count 3c3 on the Krait, so it should have 3c4.
The Mamba is a cockpit with a huge weapon behind strapped between two massive engines and 4 further hardpoints. Where would you fit a fighter ? In a CZ a fighter is more of a liability thaan an asset anyway, and it's a CZ where the Mamba excels.
I would be happy if the hardpoint placement would be made a bit more convergent so you can run fixed.

I'd totally disagree with that statement. My SLF is a big bonus in CZ. Helps having a deadly NPC of course.
I found that I need to strictly micromanage the SLF, since even my Elite pilot gets himself killed in seconds if I let him do what he wants. And when the fighter dies, the aggro of whatever it was fighting transfers to the mothership. I do a lot better without an SLF in CZ.

Its only 2 keys you need. Attack my taget and hold position. Recall them after every kill then send them out again. Sometimes my NPC can survive for a whole battle. Sometimes i have to pop them out in the second figher. Rarely they lose more than 1 in a battle. You've just got to manage them well and of course, use good CZ tactics such as not getting yourself caught in the middle of multiple enemies.

I'm not even sure how they can be considered a liability. Its just a mobile hardpont you throw out there and control. It blows up, you launch another.

So what if the aggro transfers to you if they blow up. That would be aggo you would be getting without having a SLF at all. It makes a nice distraction having one.

Nope, when I go after the biggest threat at all times I rarely ever get aggro from any other than my target, as long as allied forces are around. With a fighter I have up to 3 ships on me when it dies. I only use SLF in bounty hunting.
