Please help me pick a deep-core mining ship. Are the Alliance ships any good

I'm looking for a ship which is bigger than a Cobra but is still nimble and personal enough for deep-core mining. I'm bored of Asps.
DBS internal are just too small so it doesn't feel like a sufficient upgrade. I am worried DBE will feel too sluggish but might be wrong. I was thinking iCourier but it feels wrong using that ship.
I haven't tried the newish Alliance ships. NE GD?
Looking cool in VR is a bonus! Ship Launch fighter also a bonus for when I am bored.
Thanks!

I just started getting into mining too. Bought a T9 specifically for it, and had a lot of fun. Made about 600m CR on my first run, so it easily covered the costs of the ship and engineering. Don't forget heat sinks - that thing runs toasty.

The alliance ships would be epic, but they have too many military slots.

The Python or Krait MkII make excellent miners. Asp is quite good, but limited.

But I just use an Anaconda. Lol

I did it in a challenger and it was great, so many hardpoints, easy to defend oneself and do any kind of mining, but once you get good at it, you'll fill what can only reasonably be 64t plus or minus a few, in a very short time. I use the python now of course, cos there ain't no way I'm filling 192t before I'll want to kill myself rather than keep hearing the noise of the PWA any more (don't get me wrong sound is good, it's the repetitiveness of it that eventually wears me down).

The Alliance Challenger makes a great DC miner, great low speed agility decent firepower and like Bigmaec enough cargo for my mining expeditions

All miner variant

For exo bubble mining either a Krait mk2 or Python (always the sensible choice but not as much fun!)

I got into this for money some time ago so I came up from no money at all when I started. This works well:

Cheapest effective miner: Viber MKIV
A few loads with that will afford you trading up to a Keelback.
A few loads with that will afford you trading up to an AspX
Quite a few loads with that will afford you trading up to a Python. (this is the stage when I stopped running at the first sight of trouble)

I guess the Cutter is probably the Luxury model if you wanted to go any higher than Python, but that's big enough to have reasonable defenses so you don't have to simply run from any small fight; just the big ones.

See, that's the thing for me.

Up to 64t and the AspX is pretty-much the most efficient mining ship.
It's kind of pointless to spend, say, Cr70m on a mining Crusader when a Cr30m AspX will do the same job (much, much better).

The next step up is 128t and the Python or Krait Mk2.
Objectively, the Python is the better ship but the Krait has it's good points too.

After that, you're looking at mining in a big ship, at which point it becomes more about how much mining you can do before you lose the will to live than about the efficiency of the ship.

Personally, I think around 2 hours, and 128t, is my sweet-spot so the Python's the best tool for the job. (y)

Hi

Thanks for the replies!

I quite like this Crusader build. It is fairly bonkers but I like stretching my legs with the SRV and SLF :)

If not, the DBX is a sound idea!
Well at 15 LY range and no scoop, youre not going far. Aslo no need for repair limpets. Also also, no need for an SRV for mining, as the ship doesnt have a lot of room to spare. This actually looks like a really bad build

I meant collector limpets.

I like SRV for stretching my legs. The SLF is for likewise.

Also jump range doesn't bother me. This isn't for min max. Just for enjoying a 30 min stint in something different.

So what I like to do is keep the mining ship in a station close to my super secret hot spot. Then I fly one of my main ships over there, do some mining, then transfer the loot into the main ship (usually corvette) for a fast burn to the best place to sell. i think if you want to add extras like SRV and fighter, the smallest ship you would want to go with would be python or krait.

Im guessing that you love the looks of the alliance ships (as do I!) but they are not a great choice for mining
