The Star Citizen Thread V10

I kind of draw a parallel between SC funding and the PPI refund entertainment currently happening in the UK. PPI was presented as something you should take out, but if you looked at the small print, in many cases you probably didn't need it. The banks are refunding if you took it out. I didn't take out PPI because I read the small print and for SC I didn't purchase because I read the small print, not just listened to the verbiage. It kind of comes down to where responsibility lies. is it with with seller or with the punter or somewhere in between. Actually in SC land there is a third element that the fellow punter is influencing. However in SC land these ship sales are large chunks of corn relative to games purchases you would normally make, so it should be an obvious warning. I am really interested to see how this goes long term, because it's an insane business model that you can get 50M USD loans based on having a valuation of 350M USD, never having shipped a product and not even needing private equity funding to get started.
The kickstarter money is full equity. It's just not equity of those who put in the money. As for the advance payments for the game - no idea how they balanced it. Should be liabilities in the balance but they did a fine job renamin and making a nice tree of corps to hide all that. Who knows - there might be one entity that collected preorders and then shipped the cash as equity into another entity. And then changed the ToS to seal the deal...

Regarding the first part, that doesn't sound very fidelitious. I dobut CIG will do that.
I was composing an answer about how even CIG wouldn't be fidel enough to make people wait for access to a merchant - then I remembered people having to queuing to get into outposts in Open in ED... and we know that CIG has far more fidels than fdev ;)

Tired of waiting in line Citizen?
Introducing the new fast track pass for a low low price! Only available for a limited time ā€œDON’T MISS OUTā€
disclaimer:item may or may not ever exist.

What the fast track pass will actually do will remain undefined though, just like LTI, so everyone will be free to dreamcraft what it will actually be. Just like LTI

Bored of the same lines of dialogue time and time again?
Introducing for a limited time only, the Close Personal Friend Module!
Bask in the fidelity of a AI controlled neural network(like what Chris saw on YouTube last weekend)that tailors dialogue to your needs.
Lines like,ā€how’s the wife and kids?ā€,ā€are you eating that?ā€,ā€I have this lump!ā€ and many, many more!
Don’t just interact with NPCs,be their bestie!
disclaimer:funds may be required for the company speed boat.

Citizens getting worked up over the how the shopkeeper NPC handles a gun.

The OP has a point, if one is wanting fidelity, that attention to detail, no?

Because we're not waiting enough in this game already, let's introduce:
  • Waiting in line for meeting with the shopkeeper,
  • Waiting for him to answer our hailing,
  • Waiting for him to go and bring back the gun we picked in the horrendously bad and ineffective inner-thoughts menu,
  • Waiting for him to end his commercial speech,
  • I guess there'll be few more steps of fideliciously physicalized wait until we can leave with our purchase.
Never done before (but any sane person knows exactly why)!

Plus as always people tend to forget that Star Citizen is a game in active development. If you are going to change things or add detail NOW is the time. Not when its released. Sure the animation is a minor thing but it shows clearly that the responsible coder either has no experience with such things or doesnt care for whatever reason (workload, complexity, deadline). And if you ever handled a weapon or was drilled in its use then this will cringe you.

"Its a game" sure but games today are striving for some serious realism and if you dont consider such minor things why should people expect anything more from the flight model or the simulation level?

Regardless if CIG is able to do this or cares I think the post was valid and prompted the devs to consider adding more detail/realism. The amount of knee-jerk reactions in response is beyond me as if a post like this reflects a major attack on the whole project. Oh yah, I get it...the OP was missing the mandatory groveling/pledge of loyalty in advance before he sounded his complain in a most humble way. Kids and oversensitive white knights...I can see why so many discussions decline into flame wars quickly.

Fidelity is a term that is often used in combination with Star Citizen. But when you consider what the word actually "means" I gotta say there isnt much fidelity left once you are done taking a closer look. The graphics look nice....is that all thats needed? Because a lot of games today would be able to claim "fidelity" to their qualities...some even surpassing Star Citizen as it is. Almost nothing in SC from what I can see is close to reality and when such things as this post....actually striving for reality are shot down immediately its more a sign of how sensitive SC fans have become, unable to cope with or accept valid criticism anymore.

I can't see the animation, as my phone's browser isn't working.

How bad is it?

Well the animation itself looks okay....you want to focus on the accompanying description. Magazin loaded, weapon is shouldered, merchant sweeps the player with the nozzle, some argument with the trigger finger actually being on the trigger....minor stuff when it comes to gameplay for sure. I mean the NPC will not shoot you (not coded to do so) and you are not really in any danger because "its a video game" but it just doesnt sit right with you if you care about such small details. Its why I cant really enjoy todays blockbuster movies anymore. The amount of unrealistic stuff is horrendous and often shows that half the movie was cut out due to time constraints or realism simply took a break to allow the story to proceed. If movies are simply shallow entertainment to you I dont think you would ever care but I find myself in an inner monologue often where I have to re-evaluate a characters proficiency when he or she does stupid stuff even tho they showed a high level of knowledge and experience before.

Some movies it gets so bad that I simply cannot enjoy it anymore....

It finally worked for me.

A lot of that was cringe I'd agree. It reminds me of a terrible gun-store owner archetype in every 80's action/Buddy-Cop movie.

However, in any other scenario, that's some good trigger discipline going on we're seeing with the anim.

Sounds so familiar!

Of course, they only failed because they lacked vision... oh, and didn't have people throwing money at them. :p

In other news, take a look at this.

oh good news about the AI that can do FPS strafing but in space, lots of space strafing. Orbital strafing, fly-by strafing, left strafing, right strafing, some as big as yer' head strafing...

What exactly has the AI been doing until now?
