Please reconsider fleet carriers for solo players.

Carrier rentals would be far more interesting than just grinding a billion mats for a carrier.

I'm not that worried about the initial cost, I already have billions, and credits are easy to come by. The ability to have something potentially fun to spend them on would give me a reason to earn more. :)

I'm more thinking on gameplay to get the materials or whatever to make them go somewhere. Make it fun FD (even for groups of players), not grind! ;)

I suspect that fleet carriers will be for squadrons only. In a game like ED it makes little sense for solo players to have a fleet carriers. If is true that you will need a certain amount of materials to get the thing to jump, then I can't see a single player grinding for days or weeks for those materials for one single jump.

If anything it will be a static ship that can only have a single ship in it.

If you just want a place to store all of your ships, then it looks like player bases are coming which maybe a better option.
I disagree..I think if I had a fleet carrier I could program it to go to a destination system so when I finish doing what I'm doing I can meet up with my carrier and get into another ship...

Whilst I agree it WILL be guild only content I really think there is a lack of imagination on how it could be. Why not allow players to team up with NPC groups. Why should it have to be a group of pilots with CMDR in front of their name? NPC's could still largely do their own thing but different systems would generate different groups of NPC's with megsships geared for different stuff.
If I go to Orrere CODE faction NPC's would likely have a megaship which would have a group wanting to do illegal activities.
If I go to a system geared for mining I would likely join a faction of miners etc etc.
There is no reason at all to not build NPC based executive control ships imo. (Or hybrid player/NPC ones

Okay I’ll be that person :)

Given the delay, is there any chance the design team could reconsider making some form of fleet carrier available for solo players (ie, not tied to being in a squadron?). Solo players have long run out of progression systems, and the idea of building and maintaining a small mobile station... would at least make the only new content for this year not be invisible to at least the 2.8 percent of us that play solo.

Thanks for reading at least.

Ps. The rest of the new changes sound great, but I’m not a new player and already have all the cosmetics I need for 3 accounts. Something new that I can actually use would be great.

Carriers and npc crew sound like a shout to me. A little mobile mercenary force.

I don't have much idea how tying them to player groups is likely to really operate. Might suck tbh. Arguing with 200 other people about where to go.....

And all that refuelling which could be days to weeks of grind for a solo player. Good luck

I seriously hope there won't be any arbitrary number of players/squadron as a requirement for fleet carriers. For me that feels wrong.
IF someone wants to grind to get his own one squadron carrier, let them have it FD.
Probably one player, one ship carrier. Seems a bit pointless if it can only carry one ship.

Apparently you don't really understand what is essentially Fleet Carier is. It's not your "biggest star destroyer ship in the fleet". It's a huge time, work, resourse investment so Squadrons would have something to do and work on together. It's absolutely painfull to do anything of this SOLO. Will take you weeks to just make one jump. And i am not even talking about how we are gonna refit Fleet Carier and how much time it will take. It's something that no Solo player will enjoy in game. It's a pain.

If FD were imaginative (which I am sure they are !), the Fleet Carriers could be modular ..... have a basic small number of pads and expand up to a maximum level as required. That way, small squadrons or even individuals might afford them.

This would really be a slam dunk.

Small groups, or even really dedicated soloists, could have a bare bones carrier with limited capabilities. And on top of that, bigger squadrons would have some gri..progression towards meaningful goals. ie. added or improved capabilities for their carrier. More landing pads, more defensive weapons, longer jumps, more frequent jumps, outfitting, remote engineering, etc.

As for jumping resources, there should be a minimal effort option for those who have no means (small/solo) or will to grind for materials. For example, carriers could orbit a star and slowly refill their hydrogen reserves, and after a reasonable wait (a few days?) be able to make a short jump. Longer jumps would definitely require a materials grind (jumponium, anyone?) and the hydrogen reserves could be filled quicker by commanders scooping and transferring fuel, so that bigger or more ambitious squadrons can earn something extra or speed things up.

While I agree with the general notion here - these will likely just end up grind factories - I'm still convinced a single highly skilled cmdr can do more than a medium sized squadron in the same amount of time for certain grinds. For instance CMDR SpanningTheBlack can reliably grind 250-300 million credits per hour in open. Likewise CMDR Aashenfox is a wizard for HGE farming and CZ zones. Most gankers are also highly efficient grinders. Some of us can fill all G4/G5 raw mats in a few hours; I'm sure there are small/medium squads where not a single member knows how to do that.

So if squadron grind requirements are suitable for say... a half dozen casual pilots, it's certainly an option for a highly skilled, determined and stubborn pilot or two.

And since FDev shouldn't be chasing away casual business, I can't imagine they won't make carriers out of reach for some of the smaller casual squadrons. A feature that's only accessible to a small group of top squadrons seems like a poor business decision.

Speaking as an independant CMDR with no allegiance to anything other than the Credit, I'd like to take this opportunity to inform the OP that I'm willing to consider joining any squadron for the purposes of bolstering it's numbers.
Squadron invitations can be delivered, in person, c/o Ohm City in LHS 20.

Please note that a small administration charge will be levied.
