I am fine with free stuff, if it is rewarded reasonably.
ISo, buying the whole game and its expansion is (even at full price) a lot cheaper than some ship colours. How is that reasonable?

Very reasonable, simply because it's not mandatory.
This also helps with the running costs otherwise you'd be paying x Euros per month as subscription or you could buy your Cutter or your Improvised Components with real $$$
And we don't want that, do we?

Being frank, about the only thing I dislike about the 'marketing' is that store purchases cannot be applied to my alt account(s) - so some stuff I really like has to be purchased individually... but then I think my 'main alt' has had a princely £5.00 spent on it...

People are all worked up about this ‘new’ currency.

Kind of dumb having to buy points instead of just buying the items, but it’s never really been a huge dealbreaker for me with the old Frontier points.

It’s nothing more than a simple name change for me.

I visit the store like twice a year, anyway.

Weird descisions from FD, I will and HAVE bought shop items for a set £ price point.
I will not buy 10 ARX and then exchange for a paint kit and end up with 2 Arx left over.

There is a ship colour that costs nearly £40?

ETA: I could only find from £1.00 to £6.60 each...
Yes, you name it, it is per unit. Like 200 over?! Is that reasonable?

"Not mandatory" is not a reason to sell overpriced extras. Since when have people become fine with that practise?

Of course not, even though the game seems to be designed for it. Regarding the running costs: Do you feel pushed to buy something from the store, because you have the feeling if you don't, FDev could shut the game down?
Also running costs are peanuts compared to personnel costs.

Perfectly reasonable - unless one wishes to buy over 200 paint jobs, every bobblehead, every ship kit....
The more expensive paintjobs were collections rather than a single paintjob

We are certainly going to disagree over this matter as your perception appears to be based on purchasing the whole store against mine being on purchasing just the items I'd like to add to my collection.

Again, with the greatest of respect, any purchase in the store is voluntary, no benefit other than a balm to one's vanity is given by the purchases...

you can buy a ship paint for €1.25 or a 6-pack for like €3.5

Not mandatory means that you dont have to buy it, nothing more. The paint itself has only the value you give it

No, i buy from the store because i want to and because i like what i'm buying.
Not feeling pushed at all, but i like to think that by buying stuff i'm also supporting them.

simply being an active player and engaging

Which is what we need to know. How much Arx can you get from earning merits? Since merits can be bought (and are free every 30 minutes) its open to abuse making proper Powerplay that much harder if people use it as a bureau de change.

I doubt they'll tie it to actual performance or archievemt. X ARX per Y hours in-game or something, and stuff like login bonus, consecutive bonus etc are more interesting from their perspective I'd guess.

No, I don't feel pushed to buy stuff from a 100+ million pound corporation out of fear a computer game may stop being supported. I find the very idea rather absurd.

Me too, but if you look at some posts (not only this forum), you will find people kind of arguing that way.

You know you can just ... not change livery in flight. Willpower - that's all it takes.

Personally I'm looking forward to being able to apply by DW2 decal - which I can't redeem until the September release as I'm nowhere near civilization.
The game world integrity is dependent on it.

1000 Frontier Points costs about $15 USD today.

Ship kits are 750 points, so that’s what, around 11 dollars worth of points? About what you’d be paying cash wise from the store.

(Some (edit:eagle) kits appear to be on sale right now actually)

If I remember correctly most items are priced in multiples of 50 or something.

150 points
300 points
750 points

Etc.

You might see stranger numbers on sale days, when percentages are taken off.

I’m not advocating that FDev give away anything, just make purchasing something transparent. I don’t want to have to get a calculator out every time I want to buy something so I can figure out what I’m actually paying for it.

Why is this so wrong? Why do so many of you not want to make it easier to understand how you’re spending your money?
If you're incapable of simple math, no amount of game design will help you. I find it hard to believe that a game full of people making billions off interstellar trade routes is also full of people that will be flummoxed by converting cash to Arx.

Frontier is doing this to make money, they are a business. This may cost you 1 or 2$ in the long run, or it may cost you nothing as you are under no obligation to participate and they will give you Arx for free.

At the end of the day, they have a good product and they are trying to have better ways to monetize it. They win by getting your money, and you win by playing a fun game. You're free to opt out at any time, so stop playing the victim.

IF you are not familiar with Frontier Points...
No offence or disrespect intended towards yourself, but I have no interest in getting to know Frontier Points or Arx. That is why many of us are not happy about this.
Quite frankly, I find it insulting that console players take the "We had to do it that way, so it's obviously ok" attitude. (I'm not accusing you, Northpin, of that btw just that that's how the response seems to be split - mainly console players are ok with it, and PC players seem to be split 50/50)
