Please reconsider fleet carriers for solo players.

You probably have different expectations from FD on this than me. I think they will work like the Gnosis a bit. You tell it to jump and it appears in the target system, probably inside a custom signal source or near to a station or whatnot. You won't see them "fly".

If they appear in their own signal sources then you won't even see more than 1 at a time.
I don't expect to see them fly. I am talking about 100s of these things in the Nav panel and system maps. Would make them very cluttered.

Also the server load would dramically be increased because of that.

Anyway. I am pretty confident that these ones coming will be squadron based only and as they have said already a minimum amount of commanders in the squadron. What I am not against though are small personal fleet carriers that can hold 2-3 small/medium ships. These also wouldn't be persistent and disappear when the commander is offline. But that I am sure will be a whole different update if it comes at all.

They have always been called squadron fleet carriers.

I dont see one bit of game play I would be able to use this feature for. but I am glad its coming for those who do. Untill I can control a fleet of ships they are of no use.

I'm impressed with some of the deep theorycrafting that's going on in this thread, especially from people who are taking the time to do actual speculative calculations. That's proper hardcore. But if five years of playing this game have taught me anything, it's that whatever mechanics FD eventually drop on us are likely to

a) not make a whole lot of internal sense, and
b) bear no relation whatsoever to anything that's been punted in here.

What do you want to bet you will have to have a set number of active squad mates present to make a jump with a carrier.
That would kill any solo cmdr of buying one then being able to make use of it.
Not really. Just have multiple computers.

How many landing pads did we see? That would be the number.
The dev's aren't stoopid. It's what I would do to keep it MP only.
The blood and adrenaline are pumping now.
Won't work, since it's easy to workaround.

You won't see a single person flying around in a massive megaship. You won't see a groups of people flying around in a massive mega ship.

You will just see a mega ship. Also, you won't likely see it flying.
Yeah. I imagine it'll be something like No Man's Sky. You can send it to other systems, but it's not something that will travel around within a system.

Underestimate of 100,000 players on PC. Plus squadrons having their ow ln. And you think you will hardly see any in the bubble. A bubble comprising of just 20000 populated systems.

Maybe if you are out exploring, but not in the bubble.
I think a lot of squadrons will park their carriers around in different systems, spreading them out. I would park ours in a non-populated system probably, unless there's something particular mission/quest we're doing. But then, I suspect some popular systems will be crowded, like SD, PP home systems, and CG locations.

Like blocking other players, essentially. Maybe. Could be useful feature though, but I doubt it.
I always thought blocking was a terrible feature, and woefully over-used. Honestly, it was just another way to dilute the only great part of the game and a terrible decision by the dev's. It'll be interesting to see how that effects both the gameplay and the discussion once carriers finally arrive.

I can think of one straight away. When manipulating the BGS and a player faction expands into a neighbouring system often that system only has small outposts and many of them do not have full refuel/repair/rearm facilities. This usually means having to jump backwards and forwards between systems in order to use Large ships in CZs. With a Fleet Carrier (if it has full R/R/R capabilities) you can park it in the expanded system and use that.

I can think of one ..... Imagine if Distant Worlds 2 happened with Fleet Carriers in the game? They'd have a few dotted along the route, and all you had to do was join the relevant squadron to dock and refuel and repair etc (yes, I'm speculating what a Fleet Carrier will be able to do).
