Notice GalNet changes

Sounds good to me but I really hope that you'll add more "[...] significant narrative developments." in the future because Galnet will be useless if it's only to talk about Interstellar initiatives (1 each 2 months) and when new modules & ships are added (no new ship since 3.3)...

And what about the "Rumored" stuff in the CODEX ? We are closing the 1 year anniversary of the CODEX and we still haven't seen one single rumored thing...

Hope the people who were writing the Galnet News will work on real in-game events story :)

Maybe it would be better if new galnet articles were pointed out by indicators in the communications tab, like the "powerplay cycle imminent" messages. I almost never read /listened to Galnet because I didn't know new articles appeared.

Why not keep the stories but make them relevant to players?

The story could indicate a spike in prices for some commodities somewhere, or pirates. Leave some extra high grade materials in the area, a hidden treasure hoard, drop the prices at a station by x% for some commodity or some item in outfitting, a new station, or a station changes it's economy or is disabled, ... .

The nature of the story could indicate the nature of the reward for those who investigate or just a change to something in the game.

Hello Commanders,

Our galaxy is filled with a plethora of stories, places, and people, which are all part off the rich canon of Elite Dangerous, explored through many of our GalNet articles.

While GalNet provides an understanding of life in the 3300s, it hasn't always had a direct impact on your gameplay. We have been reviewing the effect this has had on your in-game experience, along with your feedback, and as a result, we’re going to be reducing the number of GalNet stories that we produce and instead focus on covering in-game content.

In the foreseeable future, GalNet articles will concentrate on in-game activity, such as Interstellar Initiatives, the release of new ships and modules, and significant narrative developments. With this change, we will be stopping the 'off-camera' narratives that we have previously published via GalNet.

We hope you have enjoyed the many stories that we have told, and as always please share your thoughts and feedback with us.
Why not get players involved in the content for example:
The assassination of the cartel mole why not have a player bring the assassin in on their ship? After that get the same person out of the system and back to a safe system yes this maybe one player BUT getting them back could be a cat and mouse across the galaxy with a huge bounty as a reward?

Small adjustments to the game would add a huge amount of extra content and more for players to do.

Can we expect to see more coverage on affairs with major player groups, or are you going to err on side of caution and leave them out?

i mean if something has already taken place, like a faction change in a major system with impact on gameplay or a rare item that is no longer available due to a lockdown, i would definitely like to be made aware of that.

This is... actually horrible!
I really liked those stories. They provided some background and gave an impression of life in the Bubble. Only covering ingame stuff will take that completely away...
I'd rather have a tag that tells us if something is fluff or impacting gameplay rather then just stopping the immersive chatter and make Galnet an information board for game content.
Worst decision ever in my opinion.

Just so you know. I have zero interest in PMF shannigans or Powerpants plays (is the number of people powerpooping still at 10%?). Now if you actually put some of those "fluff" pieces in the actual game. that'd be different.

I'm trying to be charitable here, really -- but all I hear from this announcement is that you're shutting off content in a universe already bereft of content, and saying you'll cover content that's not there outside of "Thargoid Attacks 2: The Buggening".

The little stories were at least something to engage with, even if they ended up being inconsequential. If this leads to more of players having meaningful influence on events, I'll be over the moons, but my gut says that's not the case.

Why not get players involved in the content for example:

A few years ago players could publish news in the galnet. One day Frontier informed the groups leaders that they no longer want to do it. We (groups leaders) could no longer submit news in the Galnet.
The reason was (I can't find the topic anymore, probably because of the new of the forum): to focus on the stories and the narrative.

In reality, this is not the first time that Frontier has reduced the publications of the galnet, it is the second time.
I didn't think they wanted to let the players publish again or interact with the Galnet. For me, it sounds like a "time saving" (writing stories, translating stories, managing flows, etc.).

For example: all the news submitted by lord Zoltan (Canonn) in the Galnet: https://news.galnet.fr/en/?s=zoltan

That is really disappointing about GalNet. It's like a DM or Storyteller saying, "screw it, I don't care to do world-building any more". The news articles gave a background to the galaxy and thus enriched the in-game experience. I also am worried about what this change says about FD's priorities.
A very good way of describing it. I recall there was lore person employed at Frontier (one of the best of the best (with honours) mentioned meeting them during their visit last year) so I assume that was the role responsible for crafting the Galnet stories and has been got rid of completely or at least drastically reduced.

If this leads to more of players having meaningful influence on events, I'll be over the moons, but my gut says that's not the case.
When all evidence supports the latter, you have more than gut instincts to rely on.

Of course, Frontier could announce that the ED servers are being turned off and there will no ability to play offline and some here would still claim it is a positive thing for the game.
