“We Want New SRVs” - But Do We?

This.

If we could have a skimmer SRV the combat with other skimmers could be amazing. You could strafe left and right avoiding fire.

Or even roll between barrages - some real high-tech dog-fighting, not space-ship jousting. I'm convinced... wait... this was my idea in the first place! ;-)

Modularity would be nice, but I don't see it as a substitute for other options, particularly if the other options are wildly different and generally outside the scope of normal modifications.

For example, I'm very much on board for player operable skimmers. Smaller ones would be accessible from the SRV hangar while the larger ones would require a full hangar bay.

There's also been a couple of suggestions over the years for bipedal walkers on planets.

I'd also like to reiterate the request that NPC crew need access to more things planetside. Giving them access to your spare SRVs, let them operate SLFs to prove close in covering fire and even let them hover above the installation to provide cover from the mothership. Depending on net code issues, it would be quite feasible to have half a dozen crew members active to support ground operations.

If done correctly, a combination of NPC crew surface operations and oversized (SLF hangar requiring) surface vehicles would add some much needed scaling into surface operations. At the moment, raiding even the highest security installations has to be balanced around a solo Scarab as there's no way of upscaling these operations; with extra scaling options they could massively ramp up the security forces at high-sec and/or large installations while still keeping them possible to complete for a well equipped player.

I think good modularity could more than be suitable. If a propulsion system module replaced wheels with arms and legs, you’d have your mech. Granted this might not satisfy those who “need” a 200 ton Orca to tromp about in or feel completely naked and defenseless.

It’s not that I can’t see a use for deploying a land-train, Sidewinder-sized superheavy Mobile battle fortress or Citidel sized mech, or the potential fun factors either, I just don’t see these sorts of things fitting into Elite.

I just want different weapons on my srv. Its annoying at guardian ruins having to kill off 2 dozen guardian drones activate all the pylons and when you're done with all of that you have less than half your ammo and have reload almost every time you do this. Yes I'm exaggerating but you know it's not that far off.

I know we all like subnautica on this forum. Look at the sea truck, slap some wheels on it.

I have never played Subnautica. It’s not even on my watch list.

It's not bad if you like survival type games. Its definitely worth a look if nothing else to have a survival game that doesnt involve zombies and has a scifi theme. If you're not into that you probably wont like it

I do like sci-Survi games, but there’s just something about this that made me go ehh...

I do admit I felt the same way about it till I had a coworker who was really into it and he talked me into getting it. My hangup was how goofy the technology looks. Not gonna lie i still dont like it but it's really not a bad game. I'm not trying to sell you on it. Just giving my opinion.

You must have missed the last Killer Whales Alpha Ring Race at the guardian site. Those formations make amazing tracks!
Yeah but i want like....Charlotte Speedway or Watkins Glen or Daytona or Nurburgring. Oval Tracks for beginners, "Road Courses" for intermediate (like Watkins Glen) and Grand Touring style tracks (Nurburgring and Spa-Francorchamps, Germany and Belgium respectively). Complete with Space RVs and rednecks

Well the Alpha Ring is somewhere between beginner and intermediate.

Just imagine, 15-20 SRV's, all jammed tight on that inner ring, racing the direction of the arrow, trying to avoid the few obstacles, and more importantly each other, as falling down into the pit can be a killer.

nope. Space Nurburgring or gtfo

I want something that I can use by exiting through the SLF bay, then using thrusters to land while ship dismisses. Then I can deploy whatever module I need, tracks, wheels, maybe even go below water surface in time. I don't want to keep seeing the SRV deploy cutscene. I want to drop from the bottom of the ship while moving forward, and mitigate the terrain from there.

I have always assumed that SRVs other than the Scarab were originally planned on being released. If for no other reason than this: why, when you go to buy an SRV for your newly instaled but empty SRV bay, do you then have to select a "Scarab" as the SRV you want to buy? It's the only option; you should logically not need to go to that screen and have those extra couple of clicks, if they were always going to be redundant. Or if there's no choice or option planned, then buying and installing an SRV bay should come with a Scarab pre-installed, as standard, and save even more clickage.
