Standing up to thargoids

An idea for a new community goal is attacking the thargoid bases(the big organic ones with a middle part that requires a sensor to access) in planets to sort of reclaim the planet and maybe even the whole system.
The thargoids would also fight back and there would be a sort of a scale to determine which side is winning.
If the battle is lost, the thargoids retaliate by claiming more planets(even outside the system).
This will make players participate in the event because eventually, the will reach the more populated areas of the bubble and things could get ugly.

If the leaks about space legs and FPS Thargoid combat are true, I think this (or something like it) might actually be in the pipeline already.

I like. I'd like a way to contact them and offer peaceful coexistence even more but that is far less likely to happen so what the hell.
Peaceful coexistence wouldn’t spark that much interest into the game imo. So far there are people who haven’t even encountered them because it’s sort of a side story (lack of a better word). It’s time people were forced to make a move. And with space legs(if they will be available) it would make a good FPS on planets and even space stations. The game has a lot of potential.

I really hope so because if they release space legs without some sort of combat system it will be really disappointing. It’s time they got to the best parts about the game. Atmospheric planetary landings, other alien life forms on those planets(living things that you could hunt or get hunted by and get rewards for harvesting them)... the likes. So far, planetary landings are only fun because you can drive in low gravity planets and bounce around. Otherwise the missions are repetitive and after a while you sort of lose interest and venture elsewhere. I really hope they get it right the next time coz I feel if they don’t, they might lose a lot of players.

I think they could and should do so much more on planets even with just the SRV, without making any engine changes. Planetary Conflict Zones, fighting creatures in the SRV etc.

But I totally agree: space legs needs good combat mechanics for sure. Repelling boarders, raiding megaships, exploring derelicts, big game hunting on planets, fighting Thargoids. There's so much potential.

I don't know about standing up to them, but one should stand up for a lady Thargoid when she enters the room.

yeah. Hopefully there’ll be a reveal early next year. Looking forward to see what they come up with .

Planetary Conflict Zones would be dope. And it would be super easy to implement too, or at least you would think. It wouldn't even have to SRV combat, just spawn a Conflict Zone above a planet. That could add a whole lot more variety to ship builds too, because you know some ships handle better on planets with gravity than others. And if they wanted to add new Combat SRVs, or possibly even anti-Spacecraft SRVs, well that would be amazing. They are hiring new devs to program vehicles for "maneuvering around planetary surfaces", so its very possible. But I try not to get my hopes too high.

Yeah... I’ve learnt to keep my expectations as low as possible when it comes to elite dangerous. Tbh when horizons was first announced I was like, “yess, finally!”. Then it came out and it wasn’t all that.

So to clarify the OP wants to further oppress an alien species we attacked first and has only been acting in retaliation since our initial attacks. Then decided to relocate of which we started harrassing them there too and yet again, attacked first for the third time in human/thargoid history.
We dont need to stand up to the thargoids, someone needs to stand up to humans.

Tbh I never read up on the past history of how the war began and all... But they are attacking stations now and we have to do something about it.
All I’m trying to say is they should find a way to make the interactions with the thargoids more interesting

I would like to see more interesting interactions with Thargoids for sure, not just fighting them, but also supporting them. Allowing players to side with or against the Thargoids would add more depth to the Thargoid narrative and lead to more player interactions and PvP opportunities.

Of course, I would still oppose the Thargoids. I don't agree with what INRA did, but I had nothing to do with the actions of those humans. I am not responsible for the actions of members of my species, and neither is my Empire or my Legion. I don't want to fight the Thargoids, but when they attack my people, who have not done anything against the Thargoids, I will have to defend them. Even if they somehow were at fault and had struck the first blow, they're my people, and I have to side with them. I could never help the aliens destroy my Empire.

Sidenote, if we could make peace with the Thargoids, get them to realize not all humans are the same, I think most people would prefer that.

Interesting take. I only hope that frontier is picking ideas from the community and will implement them. If they don’t I fear the game will die out which will be a waste of such a good game.
They should dive into the thargoid saga and exploit it as much as possible. The idea that you could go out there and take part in mission involving aliens is bound to draw a lot of attention.

They are only attacking aegis affiliated stations, and only crippling them at that. They have the power to destroy stations outright.
Outside of conflicted systems thargoids largely ignore civilian vessels.
The thargoid attacks have been pretty tame considering their capabilities.
The saddest part about this is that the thargoids actually attempted to communicate with us via the golden record method long before we had AX weapons. Before the war even started at that.

Maybe not the OP but certainly FD want to as thats pretty much the only thing that you can currently do with them.

As far as I'm concerned, until FDev removes the artificial 4 experimental weapons limit, the Thargoids do not exist.
