The FSS should reveal all USSes on Honk...

...Just a quick one as I sit here in the station after clearing a few Weapons Fired USSes and then taking a short break, contemplating the thought that in order to get a fresh list of USSes in this system, I have a choice of 3 methods, all of them completely ridiculous.

1) I go out to supercruise and do a FSS scan, revealing one by one all 40 of the USSes this system is likely to have. Er, no thanks.
2) I fly back to the Nav beacon and scan it again, getting a refresh. It's 1200ls away and I'm next to a fairly massive body so that will take several minutes. No, the fastest way to do this is...
3) Fly to any nearby system then back to the current one and drop in the nav beacon.

This cannot be supported as immersive or sensible gameplay choices. The option I want that is missing is simple...

4) Go out to supercruise, open the FSS, honk, have all the USSes revealed.

Seems reasonable, no? Thanks for listening. o7

Given the refusal of FD to have the honk reveal the location of undiscovered planets, why should it reveal the location of USSs?
Because the alternatives are stupid, I'm open to other suggestions for sensible methods to get a fresh uss list. Also, I feel having it auto-complete one of th emain game activities (discovering actual planets), is not comparable to this, which is just putting a label on a USS.

Anything that helps cut down time operating the damn thing would be most welcome.
yeah, I don't have a problem using the FSS to sweep around for things when I'm out exploring, even systems with a lot of bodies aren't toooooooooo bad, but dear lord - I was doing a surface scan mission earlier today, honked as soon as I jumped into the system, saw only 9 bodies and thought that wouldn't be too arduous to find the target planet with the FSS - hahaha no, here's 40 degraded emissions sources. Do the little dashed rings disappear when you tune the FSS to look for planets? Hahaha, also no.

Yeah, it would solve the problem of USSes cluttering me up when I'm trying to scan for the planets. Not the most elegant solution, but it would be a solution.

I never did understand the necessity to scan a nav beacon at point blank range. IMO a "honk" should be able to extract data from any nav beacons in the area, except maybe compromised ones. If a honk won't do it, then let me "zoom in" on the nav beacon via FSS to extract the data. I can extract data from a planet I've never visited this way, so why not a beacon designed to give us nav data? Every brick and mortar tourist center has a website, after all!

I like that idea.

I think that's the other problem - too many USS in populated systems. I'd rather there only be three or four at any given time in populated systems, and maybe one on rare random occasion in unpopulated systems. The way it currently is, it's like seeing 40 separate car wrecks on the way to work everyday IRL. That's just not realistic.

Arguably, the honk didn't discover planets. It just put a label on them ;)

That said, resolving USSs with the FSS is even more tedious than 'exploring' planets with it, so I'd have no objections.

What about having the station provide system data, including USS' when you dock?

EDIT - possibly by pushing a button in the Cartographic screen, so that those who want to scan the system don't lose the opportunity just be docking.

I always thought it a bit odd that a star port can’t give you the same data as a nav beacon.

I agree that there should be a way to get the latest system data from a star port, either manually (perhaps with a small cost), or automatically.

But that would make you not a true beaconer.

Seriously, I agree, the honk should detect all the USSs and ideally they would also auto-resolve when you're close enough. I always ignored the vast majority of USS just to avoid the pain of having to deselect current nav target, decelerate, and then having to target the destination again and accelerate again after seeing that the USS was something I didn't care about.

Hilarious, the first requirement of the fss was to kill off supercruise, hasn't been that long and everyones forgotten?

Isn't the fss getting stuff for free anymore?

It's a sensible suggestion.
Well, in both incarnations - that is resolve on honking and/or autoresolve within a certain range.

I'm not really bothered by it in systems with 20-30 USS, but in systems where Thargoids have a strong presence... god, that 200+ USS to resolve
