My opinion so far of Gamescom

I would like to say that with everything new that has appeared so far, I loved the terrarium, they improved my expectation about that, but there are also things that should be polished. The lion, his mane, and his face (female / male / baby) do not convince me. I think it is the weakest animal so far, graphically speaking after the tiger (something also happens to me with its face, but it is not so bad), that I will not say more until I play it for myself.

I have a doubt about the Indian peafowl, this will not fly? This disappoints me. I expected to see it fly, as I have seen it in person, in the zoos of my country. And I also insist, everything goes very fast, I saw in the gameplays of different youtubers, that in a month babies of wolves and other animals were born. That does not look like a simulation. Everything I say is just an opinion and I don't want it to be misunderstood, 90% of what I've seen is just a wonder to my eyes.

I hope you can solve this, which are only small details compared to everything beautiful they have created, but yes, It is still important.

Thanks to the entire Frontier team for the great work, no doubt.

SALUDOS!!!

I have to say that I was also rather surprised by the pace of the game overall. It sat kind of well with JWE where it added to the inherent intensity JP game tends to generate somewhat naturally.
But here I would very much appreciated a bit calmer pace of things.
There are other ways to add difficulty than "Oh my god so many things are happening, which button does water."

And the lifespan of the animals and growth of babies also suspiciously resembles JWE in its beginnings where by the time you've finished hatching a herd of dinos, the first ones out were starting to die, already.

Let's hope it's just that demo build that is kind of hastened to showcase as many things as possible in an hour of gameplay.

hahahaha, it is true, this is a case that occurs in all previous zoo simulation games or zoological parks. Therefore, I hope that Planet Zoo is an evolution in that respect and sees it as a true simulation, in terms of time.

I agree with this opinion regarding JWE. In particular the calmer pace of things. There I would be happily creating “nice things” even after the particular park I was working on was running smoothly and fully developed. And the game simply wouldn’t ever let up on creating drama! Uugghhh. I admit to loosing patience with the whole thing after the fifth or so island..
Anyway. Carry on everyone.

One of the streamers I watched said that you can lengthen the amount of time by how long you want the Zoo to be open. I guess when you're playing the zoo is open, but the hours that the zoo is closed it skips it to the next day where it's open again. I guess you can make the zoo be open 24 hours and therefore would lengthen the time between days in game. This is speculation I think based off of Planco, but it makes sense. I really hope that is the case because I was also thinking that the time was going by too quickly for my liking. I would love if we had different options (like in the Sims) where you can choose shorter days or longer days that make a significant difference.

I didn't watch too many streams so far, just Rudi's yesterday and now Best in Slot's and I am somewhere on the half of that.

Gamescom so far delivered just what I have expected. When I saw how many streams will be I knew we gonna have tons of video material from gameplay. Also, a couple of new animal reveals, though I was expecting hyenas and camels, ostriches, snow leopards and warthogs come like a pleasant surprise. Not sure we will gonna see more new species till the end of Gamescom, but still have small hope for.

I was literally blown away with gameplay honestly. I like pretty much everything about this game so far. Sure, there are some things what I would like to see like ropes for climbing for lemurs or primates, but all in all Gamescom showing is awesome and it is getting better and better. Definitely so much more then what we saw at E3, and it's not I didn't expected that but it is nice they deliver.

I am especially happy that the game seems a bit harder than expected. Requires skill and experience to solve all the problems you can run into. Animals look great in my opinion but I am not nitpicking person for that. Simply I'm waiting 20 years for next proper Zoo building simulation and now when is here I can't see myself arguing about lions manes or warthog colors. Don't get me wrong I'm not pointing finger at those who want as many details as they can imagine. All those lively animations and natural behaviors make animals look stunning and alive and Frontier did a great job with that.

Sorry if I sound like I am against any critique :) It's not that just I'm coming from Reddit and people there in most cases are unbearable. I always have in mind that no matter how awesome Planet Zoo is, still it is just a game, not BBC Earth documentary, real-life.

I would still like the hippo enclosure to be change so there are fishes in the lake and that hipp do not float but they sink to the bottom. It will bring more life to the area if there are fishes swimming around. :) But i am also very happy of what i am seeing! :)

IGN had an Indian Rhino in their gameplay stream, so theres another gamescom reveal. 😀

Hippo underwater (I got the below text from an article)
"Hippos may not swim, but they do get around in the water pretty well.
After elephants, hippos are the largest land animals, weighing up to eight or nine thousand pounds. Unlike elephants, however, hippos spend their days in the water, which might make it seem silly to ask: Can hippos swim?

Given their size, one might answer “no” because hippos seem too heavy to swim. But that’s wrong. A hippo’s fat makes it buoyant enough to float very well. On the other hand, if you said “no” you are quite right. Hippos do not really swim. Their method of travel
is very simple: they walk underwater.

Like many people, hippos enjoy resting in cool water and can let themselves float or sink by controlling their breathing and body position. Once sunk, hippos don’t swim back up to the surface: they walk along the bottom till they reach shallow water. Unlike people, hippos can hold their breath for minutes at a time.

Far from the lumbering giants they seem to be, hippos can trot, jog and run at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour, with spurts as fast as 30 miles per hour. Although poachers hunt hippos and sell their teeth as an alternative to elephant ivory, you still might see one if you’re lucky enough to travel to sub-Saharan Africa. Just don’t get too close: they are more agile than they appear."

"Hippos can even sleep underwater, using a reflex that allows them to bob up, take a breath, and sink back down without waking up."

About the pace of the game: remember you are watching the streamers play a Sandbox version of the first Scenario!! Things are happening a lot quicker, because the zoo in that build is pre-made and has a lot of options and activities already.

In the actual Career Mode the pacing is much slower, and you'll go through multiple tutorials. This is not being shown on stream at the moment :)

Hope that eases your worries about pacing! The team took specific care to ease you into the game slowly.

A elephant has a pregnancy of around 22 months, Is that in game the same? I hope so.

I know new borns aren't that easy to achieve in Zoo's, so I hope this is taken into account as well.

They do not float :)

This is from the expert of a zoo!

Yet despite all these adaptations for life in the water, hippos can't swim—they can't even float! Their bodies are far too dense to float, so they move around by pushing off from the bottom of the river or simply walking along the riverbed in a slow-motion gallop, lightly touching the bottom with their toes, which are slightly webbed, like aquatic ballet dancers.

However they are speed boats in the water take a look!

I totally agree with your opinion. I would like it not so easy to get pregnant. There are some species that get it easily in zoos, but others not much. Sometimes between two animals they do not sympathize and it is not possible to get together as a couple, and since each animal is supposed to have a different personality, I suppose that it would also be good to see these characteristics at the time of getting your partner. And regarding the gestation months of each particular species, I would also love to see. It would be a true animal simulation.
