ANNOUNCEMENT Gamescom Reveals - Fleet Carrier Details

I think if Solo players want carriers then only the "solo player" owners should be able to refuel it, if they let other players refuel it's just a double standard, they cried so hard that it was going to be unfair not letting them be able to have one by themselves then let them carry the responsibility. If they allow the carriers to be refuelled by other commanders then they should be available to be purchased by a squadron, otherwise, it makes a mockery of the Squadron machinic and everything that Squadron are supposed to be (or should be). And when it comes down to it, if solo players couldn't afford to make their own squadron to get a carrier then they were never going to afford a carrier anyway.....

Ah yes, gamedesign-by-spite, cant see that fail.

Why do some people seem to be annoyed by the fact any player can have his fleet carrier? Does Average Joe having a fleet carrier takes anything away from Average Jane?

Perhaps a silly question but can you fly it in real time through a system for going from one planet to another?

I bet "no" to that, but how are they going to do this? Point and click system maybe, in where you select from the "system map" and click on a planet or station and then your FleetCarrier will "teleport" to that location at certain time or something similar to that, or what? (I believe it will have a timer like transfer ships do from one station to another, which won't be that fun for sure).

Can Frontier clarify this? It would be so cool to move around with these massive ships on third person perspective or something like that, pick a cool spot with nice vistas and then do whatever you want with your actual ships. I ask this since they said it doesn't have a proper "cockpit" or "bridge" (also why not?) to "command them".

In fact, a strong demonstration of that principle is that they are making them available to players without Horizons.
That's what makes me hesitate and ask the question. New ship models, new feature, new Arx in September => New business model?
The Pay to win changes a little bit with the arrival of the Arx IMHO
And, the fleet Carrier is not "really" a ship.

Now finally something I for one am looking forward to. Fleet Carriers = HELL YEAH FRONTIER! Now I know why I have saved up a lot of credits. A LOT of CR. A very nice post I must say Paige.

exciting times ahead.. I hope those void opals replenish at a rapid rate of knots.. my cutter is going to be full to the brim many times..

My thoughts on Fuel Rats was that they exist to help those who find themselves in an otherwise 'self-destruct' situation. So avoiding grind would not get a response from them. I'm not a Fuel Rat so it would be nice to see their views on things.

Haven't read every page but seriously, available to everyone regardless of mode? Definitely a bonus for solo players if so. Nearer release, let's hope FD won't drop the usual bombshell of disappointing everyone at the last minute by forgetting to include vital information in their initial PR.

Anyway, even though it's obvious that I don't have to use a fleet carrier for all my Cobra Mk IVs, I presume a 500LY jump range will make reaching systems further than Beagle Point attainable, thus removing the risk of being stranded. Also, will void opal mining thousands of LYs away now becomes viable, with no pesky scripted NPC nonsense to annoy you?

DWE3 is going to be kinda dull.

Not really, the organisers could include a prerequisite that no fleet carriers are allowed or adjust the rules to accommodate them.

Either way, looking forward to more info before deciding whether to make my way back to the bubble or not! :)

Well... That's amazing... 500LY range means bubble to SagA* in ~100 jumps! The unique fuel is interesting... I wonder if that's going to be super-expensive so only really rich commanders and player factions can afford to move them long distances. Oh yeah, this sounds very very cool.

I also like the idea of being able to earn cosmetics in-game. I've been throwing FDev a few bucks now and then for paintjobs, and I'm sure I will continue to do so, but I'm looking forward to earning them in-game.

All in all, some really awesome updates. Thanks FDev!
